Saul and his son Jonathan stayed in Geba and the soldiers also stayed there. The Philistines made their camp at Micmash. The whole land of Israel had no blacksmith so Saul and Jonathan are forced to have the Philistines sharpen their weapons for a large fee before the fight. The Philistine blacksmiths charged about one-fourth of an ounce of silver for sharpening plows and hoes. Also, they charged one-eighth of an ounce of silver for sharpening picks, axes and the sticks used to guide oxen. Only Saul and his son Jonathan had spears and swords. Jonathan talked to officer who carried his armor said to come over to the Philistine camp on the other side. However, Jonathan did not tell his father and no one knew he had left. When the army went into the woods, there was some honey on the ground. Jonathan did not hear about the oath and he dipped the end of his stick in the honey and ate the honey. A soldier told Jonathan the oath and responded that his father had made trouble for the land. That day, the Israelites defeated the Philistines. After they did this, they were very tired. They had taken sheep, cattle and calves from the Philistines. The Israelites were so hungry that they killed the animals that were on the ground and ate them even when the blood was still inside. Since the men have sinned they brought a large stone and Saul forced them to bring their ox and sheep to him. Saul said they must kill and eat their ox and sheep there. Saul built his first altar to the Lord and told the Israelites to take all that the Philistines owned and kill them all. Saul asked God but God did not answer him. Saul was ready to kill his own son for tasting a bit of honey even when his son did not even know about the oath. What prevented Saul from killing Jonathan were the soldiers since they said Jonathan had fought against the Philistines with God’s …show more content…
Samuel said “how can I go, and what if Saul hears about it? He will kill me.” God said to take a cow and say “I had come to take a sacrifice for the Lord.” God said to invite Jesse and anoint the one He indicates. At Bethlehem, Samuel consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice. When Samuel arrived he saw Eliab and he thought that he was to be the anointed one. However, the Lord said to not consider Eliab’s height or appearance because he as been rejected. God said that he looks at the heart and not the outward appearance as people do. Jesse had seven of his sons pass by Samuel and he said that the Lord has not chosen any of them. The last son was the youngest one who was taking care of the sheep. His name was David and the Lord said to Samuel that he was the one. Samuel poured the container of olive oil on David to appoint him in front of his brothers. From that day on, the Lord’s Spirit entered David with power. The Spirit of the Lord had gone out of Saul and an evil spirit from the Lord troubled him. A servant noticed, and asked if they could look for someone to play the harp for Saul so the evil spirit would leave him
Even as Samuel wrestled with God, God told him & the nation what a king would demand, and take from them. However, they shouted out they still wanted a king and to be like other nations. They didn’t care they would accept and deal with the cost associated with their request. They wanted what they wanted and it didn’t matter. We are the same today we want what we want it and don’t consider the cost, but as is often said, the devil is in the details or the cost as we see here.
He shows he is weak and not ready to lead. (1 Samuel 9:21). Saul even hides when he is supposed to show himself to the Israelites as the chosen King (1 Samuel 11: 22). Although Saul knows that he cannot lead, he has no choice, he has to follow the Lord’s order. At last, God realizes that Saul was indeed not a leader-type person and chooses another person. God must have known that people are not forced to be leaders, but they themselves should be aware of the ability to be leaders.
Now the Israelites went out to fight against the Philistines. The Israelites camped at Ebenezer, and the Philistines at Aphek. The Philistines deployed their forces to meet Israel, and as the battle spread, Israel was defeated by the Philistines, who killed about four thousand of them on the battlefield. When the soldiers returned to camp, the elders of Israel asked, “Why did Hashem let us get defeat ? Let us bring the ark of Hasham covenant from Shiloh, so that he may go with us and save us of our enemies.”
And when one of them is dragged off by a lion or a bear, 35 I go after it and beat the wild animal until it lets the sheep go. If the wild animal turns and attacks me, I grab it by the throat and kill it. 36 Sir, I have killed lions and bears that way, and I can kill this worthless Philistine. He shouldn’t have made fun of the army of the living God! 37 The Lord has rescued me from the claws of lions and bears, and he will keep me safe from the hands of this Philistine.” Since God helped David kill the wild lions and bears to save his sheep, then he thinks that God will help him kill this Philistine. In the poem “Casey at Bat” it says, “There was ease in Casey’s manner as he stepped into his place; there was pride in Casey’s bearing and a smile on Casey’s face. And when, responding to the cheers, he lightly doffed his hat, no stranger in the crowd could doubt ‘twas Casey at the bat. He just eased himself to the plate and didn’t think about hitting the ball. Another difference was that David used his skills, Casey didn’t. “48 When Goliath started forward, David ran toward him. 49 He put a rock in his sling and swung the sling around by its

The Middle Ages which was known to be a very violent era in our world consisted of multiple weapons. The weapons that were used in this era were determined by the social class that you belonged to. These classes consisted of the lower class which would be the foot soldiers and then the knights. The weapons these two classes had though differed from one another. God has placed David in the present of King Saul even through David has been anointed by Samuel as king of Israel; God still allows the people’s King as his own servants raise David above their King through
From the beginning, there has always been a need to protect ourselves from combat and other dangerous situations. From the simple shields and breastplates in the middle ages to the more complex and more advanced body armor we use today that requires research by scientists and engineers. War was not always charging into battle with guns and tanks. Battles were simple with the main weapons being swords and knifes. Today we need it to protect us from other things like guns or explosives.
The Middle ages in the period of the 5th century to 15th century was the rise and fall of many important events in Europe. The Medieval period was known to be started with the fall of the Roman Empire, being overthrown by the barbaric Germans. Since Rome was conquered the beginning of that era was called the Dark Ages. With the fall of one empire rises another group or force and they were called the Vikings. The Vikings were known to be “ship-born warriors and traders” (Vikings). They were a moving group traveling by ship across Europe to expand and conquer lands. The people of the Vikings were trusting and depending on each other to succeed. During the Elizabethan time there were a variety of weapons used for defence and leisure. Despite the end of the medieval times, many of its weapons were still in use (Mahabal). Because of this, the Queen pushed to have new, modern weapons be created in case of a war. The threat of a war was real because of the constant dispute between the Catholic Spanish and the French (Alchin). Most of the weaponry that came to be happened to influence English history forever such as the Rapier, the musket, and the cannon.
Both Saul and David were men of war. Each led armies against the enemies of Israel. They were both politically perceptive and operated prophetically. The difference between these two
Saul had previously wiped out all of the mediums and wizards from the land because they were evil in the eyes of Yahweh. Because of his realized hypocrisy, he disguised himself and visited the medium his servants had sought out in Endor. He told the medium to call upon Samuel and so she immediately suspected that he is Saul. She knew that her work was extremely illegal by Saul's court, so she became afraid until he reassured her that he was permitting the act in that occasion. She then called upon Samuel. Samuel apparently took over the medium's body or appears in some other way to Saul. So Saul did what he came there for and asked for advise on his latest predicament. The irritated and disturbed Samuel explained that Yahweh is taking away his kingdom and giving it to David because of his disobedience of not carrying out the Lord's punishment against the Amalekites (according to Mc Carter the dead had some way of knowing God's plans and had access to them). So, Saul fell to the ground in anguish from the news and lack of energy caused by fasting. The medium quickly attended to him and forced him to eat. Saul and his servants then left. And there the chapter ends.
