Humanity.
We are unique, or at least we'd like to believe that. Peyton saw it. She saw things that the human brain in this day and age would not be able to comprehend.
Aliens, the universe, life on other planets. We only dream of things like that.
Peyton never did. She never needed to dream, she already knew. She knew things that she never shared. She knew government secrets, she knew how people felt, their thoughts.
She knew infinitely more than she let on, that is, until he came along. It seemed like he knew what she was going to say before she would say it. She was the telepath. He wasn't. So how was he so perceptive?

She held her hand out, eyeing him gently.
"Take my hand. I'm here to help." She said in his language.
She made a gesture he'd seen on his planet quite a few times. A hand gesture that simply meant that the person meant no harm. One person presses the side of their pointer finger to the middle of their forehead and pushes it towards the other person. A foreign gesture on Earth, so how did she know it?
He stared at her with wide eyes before hesitantly taking her hand. She knew that people on his planet didn't experience much physical contact. Like most Earthly activities and object, it was unnecessary. The planet only did what was necessary.
She helped pull him up, ignoring the shouts of the drunken neighbors. "Come inside." She said gently.
He nodded, immediately letting go of her hand and shivering. She led him inside, shutting the door behind her. She placed her hands gently on his chest, making him sit down. She walked away, and turned back when she saw how frightened he looked.

She walked back over. She cleaned the cuts on his face, gently gripping his chin to hold him still.
He couldn’t fathom what to say. "How?" Was all he managed to say.
She shrugged, "I'm sorry that I have to touch you, I'm almost done." she said.
He eyed her carefully, taking in her appearance. She looked incredibly healthy, her skin was clear and glowing. On his planet she wouldn’t have any trouble finding someone to mate with. Her children would no doubt be healthy as well. His planet knew nothing of beauty, he hadn’t known there was a word for what he thought of
