As a child I have always loved working with animals and once I was the proper age I started volunteering at a nearby animal shelter. Volunteering has given me a better version of myself and new friends. Although volunteering will take up your time and money, you should start offering your services at your local animal shelter because it will let you help animals, gain experience, and bring new people into your life. Despite getting emotionally attached to these animals, finding homes for them is better is better than them staying at the shelter. My job at the shelter was to get the animals ready for adoption. Most of the animals were either abused or abandoned so getting them to trust people took time and effort. Knowing that around 1.5 million shelter animals get euthanized every year, I made it my personal goal to get every animal I worked with a better home. I always met that goal. A particular case is when a blue nosed pitbull walked through the door. I took care of him and personally named him Atticus. I loved that dog so much that one day I took home papers of adoption for my mom to sign. I was living in a two-bedroom apartment at the time so the situation of getting a dog was not in the picture. I was so heartbroken to know that I couldn’t take him home with me. Sooner or later a young couple took Atticus home with them and I haven’t seen him since. I was so in love with Atticus it hurt to see him go, but I knew he was going to be happy with his new family. Atticus was truly a dog I will never forget. I will never regret all the time and effort I spent on him to get him ready for his new home.
Although you do not earn money from volunteering at a shelter, you do gain experience for future jobs. I started volunteering so I could overcome my fear of socializing with strangers and have more job-like experiences. I had never worked with other people that were not my age and I did not want to throw myself into a job that made me do so. Volunteering at the shelter has now given a boost on my growing resume and given me many new skills, public speaking, people management, and strategic planning. Once, I was given the job to show a family different animals that they would want to adopt and when the family
There are many different places that you can volunteer at, and they are very good choices. Places like the Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels, and Red Cross are all excellent places to volunteer, and I respect and encourage any person that is willing to put in time for an organization and not get anything out of it. I know how hard it is to say to yourself that you will get up and help an organization for nothing because I have done it. I also know the how rewarding it is to volunteer. This is partially one of the reasons that I volunteer. I personally prefer an organization, called Camp of the Rising Son. I prefer to volunteer at Camp of the Rising Son as a cabin counselor because of the fact that they are a Christian organization that teaches young children about Christ, and that I already have the necessary skills needed to excel, and because of the impact it makes on my life personally.
The Archaic Age is one of the five periods that Greek history can be divided into the Dark Ages followed by the Classical period. In the Archaic Period, there were vast changes in the Greek language, society, art, architecture, and politics, which isolated farming communities were evolving into the polis “a small city-state” (Lloyd, 2012). At least two hundred poleis laid scattered over the Greek mainland and abroad bring diverse people together into real communities (Matthews et al., 2014). The Archaic period saw advancements in political theory, especially the beginnings of democracy, as well as in culture and art. Therefore, the knowledge and use of written language which was lost in the Dark Ages was re-established.
Most of you probably have a pet of your own. Maybe a dog named Max or a cat named Oliver. Could you imagine seeing them in terrible pain? I honestly don't think there will be one student in this class that would volunteer to let their own pet be tortured for any reason. Am I wrong?
There are a lot of different reasons and places you can volunteer at, such as the soup kitchen, highway cleanup crews, and the neighborhood watch, not only because it affects you directly but also because it helps the community immensely.
Volunteering is good for the mind, body, and soul. For some of us, it is hard to find the time. Becoming creative and doing what you deem a little can be BIG for another. Dr. Martin Luther King said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent questions is “What are you doing for others?”
I feel like people could benefit from volunteering at places like food banks because it can show them how much they have to be thankful for, like to be in a family well off enough to provide for themselves. Seeing as it’s so easy to forget sometimes how fortunate we really can be. Volunteering at the food bank will show and remind you of those things that seem so normal to us, but we really should be thankful for having. Through your volunteering you would meet new people, all with different backgrounds and stories. Furthermore, the feeling of helping others is always a good one. Knowing that you made a positive difference in someone’s life and that you are one of the reasons they smiled today can make all the difference. Additionally, it
In my initial proposal, I made the decision to volunteer at the Twin Falls Animal Shelter for a few key reasons. Firstly, I believe that Animal Shelters are very important to our community. Not only do they help save the lives of animals, but they also help out people in a way. The experience of raising and owning a pet is an experience that truly changes a person; and that experience cannot be substituted for anything else.
I met my best friend ten years ago. He has thick, brown, black, and white hair, brown eyes, and white feet. He loves stuffed animals that squeak, riding on the golf cart, hunting for lizards and squirrels, and eating any time of day. His name is Sam and he’s ten years old. Oh, did I mention that he’s a dog? He does not know it though. When I was seven years old, my mom, brother, and I went to the local animal shelter to look at the animals. We found two adorable puppies -- one was solid white and the other was brown, black, and white -- and my brother and I begged to have the white one. But, a couple days later, we came home from school and saw that sweet brown, black, and white puppy lying on our dad’s chest taking a nap. The white one had
Thesis statement: Today, I hope to convince you that adopting from an animal shelter is better than purchasing one. I aim to do this by to drawing attention to the problem with animal breeding, give you a glimpse inside of all the wonderful animals inside a shelter where you will find several benefits inside.
As long as I can remember, I wanted to do something with animals when I got older. I would dream about helping when they are in need. I have always wanted to be a veterinarian since day one. With growing up, I learned that veterinary students go through a lot to become a veterinary. Writing is very important and it's needed in anybody wants to go into. To be an animal sciences major, a lot of research papers have to be written and as well as persuasive papers.
Volunteering in your community helps solve many dilemmas in your community that descend through the eyes of government and social agencies (Everything you ever wanted to know about volunteering).
Your views on circuses are different than the views of the animals. They see torture, abuse, separation from family etc. If we continue the path we are taking with the animal abuse the endangered species could get worse and worse and later maybe be gone. Circus owners should ban animal performances in circuses.
Being a volunteer has shaped me to become a better person and has given me a greater sense of appreciation. Those my age often take simple things for granted, such as a roof over their head. Seeing those in need, whether it be finances, medical attention, or even something small, has made me realize the value in what I am lucky to have already.
People may go help out at a food bank or serve soup at a soup kitchen because they want to help out someone in need but what do they get in return. Volunteering at a help organization not only helps the people receiving help but may boost your reputation within the community. Good things come out of helping
Rituals are symbolic actions that help us express our genuine opinions and feelings about life and its important events. Rituals take many forms, which may consist of procedures of an individual or a group that preforms on a daily, annual or calendrical basis (Wolfelt, 2007). Rituals come across in different religions, the top five religions consist of Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism, Hinduism and Islam. Some religious rituals include, funerals, marriage, rites of passage, Bat/bar mitzvah, pilgrimages, rites of personal devotion and the sacraments (Bro, 2014). Rituals are not always religious, there are secular or non-religious religions that exist and are practice annually and or daily. These include celebrations such as Anzac Day, Olympics, Halloween, graduation, pagan rituals and birthdays. The ritual I will be explaining is Buddhist funerals. Religious rituals such as funerals have more meaning than secular rituals as it expresses the sense of transformation of the deceased soul separating from the body. It is rich in tradition and widespread with symbolism as it acknowledges the truth of death and gives testimony to the deceased. It encourages the expression of grief in a way consistent with cultural values and provides support to mourners; as it allows for the embracing of faith and beliefs about life and death.
