As a teenager walking into the grounds of Anaheim High School, is left in utter disappointment, there’s no desire, no pride, just another day of school. Students, parents, and advisers don’t take notice on how powerful the mind truly is and the affect it has on the students, leaving their future vulnerable to many possibilities being bad or good. Everyone wants to be successful, it's whether they believe they can that interferes with they will. Most students doubt their capabilities and self confidence, having the comparison of one another as skill. No one is “born super smart” or “born not smart enough” its what you convince yourself to be and how much effort you put into trying to be successful. The research for this writing was conducted through various articles and a documentary which all conducted the final conclusion on aid to making students successful. Anaheim high school should invest in inspiring our students in a manner where they are completely convinced of wanting to be successful where there are doors full of motivation, compressed with invested time and effort. Anaheim high schools should build their students from the ground up, work with the mentality the students have and try to improve it. In reality a successful mindset should be inputted since childhood but Anaheim high schools should work with what they have.
To initiate the primary goal, being student success, we must give school a broader meaning, an inspiring touch, motivation, leaving students convinced of the necessity of education and a successful future. For example, in KIPP schools, “on the walls of the school’s corridors are hundreds of pennants from the colleges that KIPP graduates have gone on to attend” (4). So you can already see the touch of a future already being planted on the students because that's the first thing they see, the only way to make a student succeed is to first make them want to and let them know they can, it's all in the mind. What's fascinating is that “80% of the students will go on to college” (14) in these KIPP schools. Another decor example would be, “on the walls of the classroom were dozens of certificates from New York State Regents exam, testifying to first class Honors for Corcoran's students”
In March 1, 2009, suspect Lawrence Henry Lewis and Lawrneil Henry Lewis and their cousin Alejandro Sam Gray threw a large piece of concrete at customers in a gay bar in Galveston, Texas. There individual who was a victim, his name was Marc Bosaw. He needed 12 stitches in his head from being hit by concrete.
The author further discusses some schools similar to Anne Fox Elementary School, that have transformed and really became the academic haven for children, paving newer paths of success for their students. It gives an overview of the other chapters and lists some great changes that had taken place when these schools really adopted the principle, and the results they had received from making a change in their system. It goes to show that when our systems aren't working in terms of helping children meet their goal it is very important for us to become open to change and really believing that change and success in any child are possible as long as we believe in them. Becoming a supportive adult can make the biggest difference in a child. These countries reasons for a war were nationalism, alliances, and militarism. Germany, Italy, Russia, France, Great Britain, and Austria-Hungary were all wanting the same thing, but they were too busy competing with each other to see clearly.
Many are quick to disregard education’s role outside of the classroom. According to Mike Rose, “a good education helps us make sense of the world and find our way in it” (Rose 33). Rose emphasizes the value in the experience of education beyond the value of education for the purpose of custom or intelligence; he explores the purpose of going to school in terms of how he defines himself and his personal growth in the stages of his academic career. By reflecting on his personal experiences and how those gave him the tools applicable to his daily life, he emphasizes why education should never be overlooked. Rose’s referencing relatable experiences in a logical manner makes his argument persuasive to the readers and he succeeds in making the readers reconsider why education matters to them. In his book Why School?: Reclaiming Education for All of Us, Mike Rose effectively persuades his audience of the importance of education beyond the classroom, emphasizing how those experiences become crucial to one’s personal growth and potential in our everyday lives.
Education has always been an important part of our sustainable society in which everyone plays a role. The purpose of the education system is to provide a way for students to learn and gain knowledge. The current education system focuses more on evaluations rather than teaching, which creates a stressful and unpleasant high school experience. Alfie Kohn’s essay, How Not to Get into College: The Preoccupation with Preparation describes the difficulties and purposeless school practices students face when preparing themselves for life beyond high school.
High school is an important time for developing a sense of who you are as a person. Each kid who starts out high school will usually asks themselves what they are there to accomplish. For the most part, many set personal goals for themselves and strive to achieve above and beyond. However, some are just there for the experience and to see where it takes them. It’s apparent that some kids have an easier time and don’t have to struggle with their high school career. While reading Too Cool for School by Ellis Cose I have became aware of various aspects of my ‘schooling’ experience. I realized that I may not have had the best schooling experience, but I never pushed up against the system to get any better. Throughout my life I have attended over 10 schools some very high end others bottom of the barrel. Like Cose, I always knew my intellectual abilities, but I was always so dissatisfied with my situation I didn't make the best of it. Instead of soaking up as much knowledge as possible and making a lesson out of my situation I became complacent. She explains that when children get to high school they don’t ask themselves what they want to do in the future but seek advice from others to what they should do to have a successful future. The reason being is that children have been raised with a mindset that if they get into the best schools then they reached their maximum goal. Moreover, the speaker’s tone in her talk is insisting because she constantly emphasizes the value of children. She insists that children should not be defined based on their academic excellence but on their passions and self-efficacy. Growing up in Southeastern Kentucky, a kid doesn’t have many expectations from their parents, school teachers, or themselves. When a student walks by two teachers talking they say, “This group of 5th graders are the worst, every one of them are as dumb as a box of rocks.” This is the sad reality of what happened in my elementary school at Marie Roberts-Caney. Our school slogan is, “No student left behind.” Ever since 3rd grade I knew it was a bunch or bologna. Don’t get me wrong, I had great parents who cared about me, but they didn’t expect much from me. Neither of my parents attended college and I was afraid of it. Even as a young student, I knew I wasn’t the brightest kid in the classroom. Now that I look back, I realize how hard I worked

Yet, the education does not stop at middle school, for high school really puts all the basic skills from elementary and middle school to work as the assignments and the exams become more challenging. We do not only learn about reading, writing, history, and math, we learn about the people around us as we associate with different personalities, and as we see what we have grown up to be and what we want to be later in life. Accordingly, the high school years are a time when teachers emphasize the importance of graduating and attending college in order to have a “succesful future.”
The education we receive today holds the power to shape the individuals we will be in the future. Not only does our education aid our choices throughout school, but also the choices we make in our personal lives like where we choose to work and how we portray ourselves to society. Personally, I have enjoyed my educational experience. I have enjoyed learning new concepts and interacting with new people. Of course, there are obstacles along the way. However, these obstacles have given me the opportunity to realize my strengths and weaknesses and learn to improve in both areas. As a student, I hold onto my perseverance, seek guidance from influential figures in my life, and embrace my challenges to which all contribute to my hope to become the finest version of myself.
Academic success could never be fully measured by degrees alone, but it can include a person’s well-being as well as their mind and certain characteristics about a person that make them unique. This success can be achieved in different ways by these different people with different strengths, but there is the same ultimate goal in sight of each and every student enrolled in college at some point. However, this goal of being successful in not only school but in life, can sometimes turn out to be the opposite of how we plan. Of course, a student can achieve success by earning degrees and still fail in life. Academic success can also be a huge constituent to a students vocational calling in college as young students make a transition into adulthood.
