Persuasive Speech On Fraternity Donation

Specific Purpose: To persuade the SPC-112-W003 class on why college athletes should be getting paid.

Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Incorporated purpose is to be of service to all mankind dealing with critical issues in communities domestically and internationally. What I have grown to understand an envision a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated to be, I accredit largely to the ladies of the Gamma Theta chapter. This has the result of attending many of the chapter’s events during my time at Hampton thus far. One of my favorite events was a screening of a documentary Girls Rising. With the cost of college so high these days it is not unusual for graduates to hang on to student debt 15 to 20 years after they complete their degree. However, this does not have to be the case. You can actually get rid of student debt in 5 years or less with a little planning.

Joining a sorority is not just four for years but for life. Going through a week-long process of meeting thousands of girls can be intense, overwhelming but intriguing and exciting as well. Recruitment to many is known as a terrifying process where girls come from all over with matching shirts, bright smiles and dreams that at the end of the week they will receive the white envelope that incases the 4x6 card with the sororities crest inviting them into their sisterhood. By preparing ahead of time, which includes building a resume, searching for recommendation letters and extensive research on each chapter, sorority recruitment doesn’t have to be an intimating process.

It’s college graduation day, you’ve spent countless hours studying, wrote hundreds of papers, fail an exam once or twice and pulled a few all-nighters. As you walk across the stage remember you're now the proud owner of one of the most expensive pieces of paper you will ever own. Everyone’s always saying go to college and get a degree it will pay off later. You are told college is a time to gain knowledge and discover yourself, but those fine institutions can’t keep the lights on without requiring a hefty fee. Do you realize those price tags will hang over you and your fellow classmates for years to come. Why must graduating students face debt and hardship so young?

Credibility: According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics only about 69.2% of 2015 high school graduates enrolled into college last fall. Imagine how much higher that percentage would be if college tuition was free.

They say student loans are the “Good kind of loans.” When in all reality, any loan is not a good loan. Many students that take out loans to go to college, won't be able to make their student loan payment every month. The total estimated student loan debt in our country is one trillion dollars, the companies that are lending the money are making bank on students taking out loans for college. If this is what people consider to be normal, do you want to be normal? They say paying for knowledge, getting that higher degree, will enable you to get a better wage; so getting a loan now, is a small price to pay. So let’s say you take out a $70,000 loan, and you complete college, you apply for the carrier that you worked for. Your starting salary is $30,000

On January 4th, 2017, you issued an emergency call for blood and platelet donation because the severe winter weather was eating up your blood supply causing a shortage and once again you issued a statement on July 5th, 2017, saying that, “The decline in summer donations is causing a significant draw-down of our overall blood supply, and we urgently need people to give now to restock hospital shelves and help save lives,” (Mandal). So, if I am understanding this correctly, the nation is still experiencing a blood shortage? Ok, here’s the part that I find funny, there’s an entire population that is able to donate but yet are deferred by your system. Can you guess what that population is? No? Well, it’s gay and bisexual men.

As the cost of education increases, many students search for assistance to help cover that cost. That form of assistance could come from burdensome financial aid or a scholarship that provides the student with an education free from debt. That’s why I am writing you today Mr. Alan Hall on behalf of the Student Scholarship Committee, bellow we have outlined the (1) the benefits to the student, (2) the benefits to you, and (3) how you can take action to help.

Just imagine if one of your brothers or sisters was born with a heart defect and had to have daily transfusions of blood in order to have a chance of survival. Unfortunately, things happen like this everyday and some of you may have experienced them already. In this essay I am going to persuade you to become a blood donor. I try to donate blood every two months or so because it makes me feel like I am doing something good and saving people’s lives. Do you know that 95% of all Americans will need a blood transfusion sometime in our lives (Red Cross web site)? That statistic means that there is a possibility that you, and your family and friends could need support from volunteer blood donors. In this essay I will discuss the need for blood donations, solutions that can increase blood donations, and actions that need to be taken to increase blood donations.
