Dear Mr. President,
Thank you in advance for taking the time to review my proposal to decrease the problem we have with teen smoking.
Everywhere we turn, we see the media promoting tobacco products. I believe that at age 18, it is too young to be legally able to purchase tobacco products. We need to take smoking seriously as drinking alcohol. Raising the age limit to smoke from 18 to 21 will help in decreasing the number of teens to not start smoking at such a young age. Also increasing the price of tobacco products will be very beneficial to our problem.
Banning of smoking in public places, such as restaurants and bars have been very positive outcomes for the recent years. Smoke-free policies do send strong and direct messages to

The main problem that does not help convincing our teens that smoking is bad for them is the public media. We see it in commercials, magazines adds, billboards and all over the internet. We need to stop all these type of advertisements, we need to focus on positive advertisement. Why not advertise the consequences of smoking? How we harm our body and the people around us. Kids think it's cool to smoke and that the younger they are, the cooler they think they look. We need to educate our teens by having mandatory smoking prevention programs at school. Once a teen tries their first cigarette, those who continue to smoke will typically hang out with the same-aged friends as their steady source of cigarettes and tobacco (U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services, 183). Typically, an increase in price of tobacco products of 10% causes a fall in smoking of 4% in adults and 6% in children (Jamrozik, 760). Once we increase the price of tobacco products, it will be difficult for our teens to
Imagine your life being slowly sucked away because of a cigarette that costed you money. This is the real truth of what a cigarette does to your life and more than enough reasons on why minors shouldn’t smoke. It has been studied that before smoking, minors would do exceptional on their tests that they took at school, but after they started their test scores started to lessen by about 0.08 percent each day from one cigarette. A numerous number teen smokers say that smoking for their age is alright, as they obtain a “high” from it and they have a good time. Even though smoking for minors seems well enough, it isn’t since it affects the genes in their brains negatively, the U.S. has even seen the threat of it and banned
Cigarette companies use trends, age, culture, and other things to hook a person to their product. The companies mainly target teens because of their ignorance and teens who get addicted that young will likely be customers for life. Tobacco is promoted on almost every television network and 1/3 of adolescent experimentation with smoking results from the advertising. (Tobacco Free Broome and Tioga) Not only are cigarettes promoted on TV, but their promoted throughout everyone’s lifestyle. Maybe a role model you have, maybe one of your parents, or maybe a celebrity you enjoy following... any one of these people could smoke and the mindset of many is, “if they’re doing it, so can I”. Mike Magee smoked his first L&M cigarette when he nine years old, his parents smoked and kept cigarettes in the house and therefore they were accessible. He and his siblings said that learning how to smoke was
In our communities, the youth can easily identified any of tobacco’s product. The author, Steven Reinberg, published , Tobacco Companies Targeting Teens, Study Says, states that the tobacco product, Marlboro, is highly purchased by high school students according to usnews.com. Mr. McGoldrick states that the three brands, 90 percent is being marketed. Most companies hold their ground saying that their tobacco products are not meant to bought by youth, but somehow still managed to in our children’s hands, in his article, Tobacco Companies Targeting Teens, Study Says (steven Reinberg). According to Erin Brodwin, author of “Tobacco Companies Still Target Youth despite A Globally Treaty”, states that children all over the world can identify the tobacco brands. Not only are children picking up their ideas from television, but also from public. Children knowing which brands shows how serious the addiction can be. Seeing how easily the product being shown to the youth is another way of starting. If less smokers are seen in public, the lower the numbers will
I also have observed the patients of cardio vascular diseases. According to my personal observations, about 79% patients were early smokers who start to smoke at age 16 or less than 18. So that is why I also personally believe that we should take some serious steps to protect our young generation from getting involved in bad habit of smoking. I think that increasing the minimum legal age to 21 years for smoking will be a good step in this regard.
In fact, the tobacco industry has suffered ever since antismoking advertising has begun (Johnston, p. 107). According to statistics, 4 in every 10 Americans who are in 12th grade have tried cigarettes, and 1 in 10 consider themselves current smokers. As well as, 1 in 5, 8th graders have tried cigarettes, and 1 in 16 consider themselves current smokers (Johnston, p. 107). Now that society is aware of the harms of tobacco, it is important to decrease such rates of smoking amongst youth. Not only are there commercials about the risks of cigarette smoking, but also there are commercials that promote living above the influence of all drugs, including alcohol and marijuana. Lastly, as research continues to improve, and new drugs arise it is important to keep youth educated on the risks of using such drugs. It is important to keep our youth safe from the dangers of
Smoking tobacco is probably one of the worst habits humankind has developed. Originating as a tradition of the Native Americans, practiced mostly on special occasions, smoking has gradually become a kind of mass addiction. Due to the efforts of tobacco companies seeking to increase their sales, people started smoking more and more often; the evolution of a more traditional pipe to a cigarette took some time, but eventually tobacco became more affordable and easier to use (you now simply need to light it up, instead of having to always carry a tobacco pouch, stuff a pipe, puff it, and so on). As a result, deaths and health issues connected to tobacco consumption became a worldwide
C. Today, I’d like to talk to you about how banning smoking in public can lead to less secondhand smoking and health effects, causing fewer environmental issues, and finally, supporting smokers in giving up smoking.
How can people give teens a pack of cigarettes if they aren't even old enough to make good decisions? Society should change the smoking age requirement from 18 to 25. The minimum legal age to buy cigarettes varies from country to country. Mostly 18 is the minimum age requirement and is better to raise the age for all United States nationwide. Changing the smoking age requirement will not only save teens from making bad decisions but will decrease the number of smokers around the world.
Music is something that many people can easily get lost in, whether it is listening to it or playing it. One thing that no one thinks about often is the amount of funding that is actually given to the music programs, even the ones in Arizona. For some people, music is their world and for others, it is a source of relaxation. If the music programs in Arizona do not receive an adequate amount of funding, people will no longer be able to benefit from all the great things that happen within the program, such as scholarships. The music programs in Arizona deserve more funding than they are receiving now because the programs help improve academics, they promote motivation throughout life and they are necessary for many people in the world, even
I would like to ask you if I can provide a regulation for only tobacco or for only alcohol. For instance, indoor smoking ban, which is obviously related with only smoking and it is not related with alcohol, can I talk about it in one paragraph and then in another paragraph can I give an example of one regulation for alcohol consumption? What I want to ask is that should I give an example of regulations which are implementing for both alcohol and tobacco? Thanks in advance.
This report is a compare and contrast of four different scholarly journal articles relating to the management and leading of change in a business environment. The strengths and weaknesses, as assessed by the author of this report, will be assessed. The author's own point of view will be discussed next. Evidence to support that point of view will be mentioned next and then the report will be wrapped up with a discussion of leadership styles and overall behavior in the public sector. Not all of the articles pertain in whole or in part to the public sector but the author of this response holds that the conclusions drawn in this report are applicable nonetheless.
Most smokers started their cigarette addictions when they were only minors. Tobacco companies are fully aware of this and rely on it for better sales. “To maintain sales, the tobacco industry must recruit more than 2 million people every year to replace those who die and those who quit smoking. Since 90% of beginning smokers are children or teenagers, this means that the industry must entice at least 5000 youngsters daily to take up smoking” (Andre and Velasquez 7). This means that advertising smoking towards minors is crucial to keeping these companies in business. They could not survive without underage smokers. Luring children to smoke is beyond unethical. No company should be allowed to entice kids into an addictive habit that kills every day.
A 2002 study performed by the Research Triangle Institute states that the tobacco companies make 1.8 billion dollars annually from underage sales. It is interesting that they are making such large profits when it is illegal for a person under the age of 18 to purchase cigarettes. A recent survey by the The American Lung Association indicated that among students under 18 years old who were current smokers, 69.4% reported never being asked for proof of age when buying cigarettes in a store, and 62.4% were not refused purchase because of their age.
Advertising for tobacco is another source that cause teenagers smoke and adults smoke. Recently, tobacco companies have found new ways to promote their products to youth. They support their sporting events, concerts and movie. Many people favor idols or stars smoke in the movies and they seems very cool. And Teenagers are curious about imitation. Smoke containing nicotine acts as a stimulant to the brain. Nicotine in the bloodstream acts to make the smoker feel calm. In fact, nicotine is a lethal poison, affecting the heart, blood vessels, and hormones. Tobacco smoke contains over 4,000 chemical compounds. More than 60 of these are known or suspected to cause cancer. What is more, secondhand smoke can be harmful in many ways and it ruins thousands of non-smoking people, children's health. The US Surgeon General and the US Food and Drug Administration are among those who have examined the evidence and concluded that tobacco advertising does increase overall consumption. If we ban adverts on tobacco products, they will gradually lose their appeal, because they won't symbolize anything "cool", "smart" or "amazing". Tobacco products will become ordinary consumption goods and thus the number of young people who take up smoking in order to "be somebody" will decrease.
Teens may experience symptoms of withdrawal week of starting to smoke, underscoring the importance of taking proactive measure to prevent adolescent smoking. Although on the decline for many years, teen smoking has now leveled off and new strataglass are needed to combat it. Teens are different from adults when it comes to smoking. even occasional teenage smoking can perience the same symptoms of nicotine withdrawal that prompt adult smokers to light up again. The typical adult begins to crave. Crave the next cigarette in 45 minutes for an hour after smoking but kids can be addicted and not need to smoke for days, or even weeks. Believe it or not, you spend money on cigarettes just like you would pay your bills! 1 Pack of cigarettes cost about$3.00 to $4.00, depending on what kind of cigarettes they are. That means each year if you buy if you buy at least 1 pack of cigarettes a day, you will spend about $48,000 a year! NOW THATS A LOT OF MONEY! Its affecting the opportunities of how your money can be spent differently. It affects your money and the opportunities that you can do with the same money that you are spending on cigarettes. Anyone who smokes is ruining there life, literally! The whole united states should just banned smoking from everyone! If we are able to banned smoking from the United States, Imagine how many people could live health, alive, and free. Smokers may think that smoking cigarettes make you feel relaxed and relieved,
