There are few issues as controversial in politics as the topic of universal health care. While most people consider some sort of health care to be a basic human right, the question remains whether the government holds a moral duty to create a universal healthcare system for its citizens or the free market is expected to provide those services. The idea of universal health care refers to an elaborate type of health care system which allows financial security and health care to all of its citizens. It is designed around providing certain benefits to all members of society with the end goal of improving individual access to health care services. Universal healthcare is not a form of welfare and does not require coverage for all people for everything. It just covers the aspects of certain medicinal services. An individual cannot automatically be deprived of health coverage as long as that individual lives in the country that provides universal health care. I believe that Universal health care is a right. I know many people who have put off important procedures and checkups simply because they could not afford it. I have even experienced this first hand. According to the US Census Bureau, around 33 million people in the United States of America did not have health insurance in 2014. That is about 10.4 percent of the US population. I was fortunate enough to have insurance growing up. I remember when my father lost his job when I was quite young, my mother was very worried because he had no health insurance. He was not worried about it as much as she was, but unfortunately, he fell off his bike and fractured his knee and forearm. He was so stressed out about how he was going to pay for it because unemployment was definitely not going to help. He had to take out a loan and luckily got a job soon after so he could pay it off quickly. Many people are not able to pay off loans for medical services so quickly. We live in the richest nation on earth and we should not go without health care. It could stop medical bankruptcies, improve public health, reduce overall healthcare spending, and help small businesses. Health care should be a necessary government service. According to a 2009 study from Harvard
Healthcare should be a right for all U.S. citizens because not only would it drastically lower costs from the current healthcare system for both the individual and the government, but also greatly improve healthcare rankings and satisfy the majority of the population. By expanding coverage to all U.S. citizens, universal healthcare would significantly lower healthcare costs for both the individual and the government. Without a doubt, something should be done to fix the current healthcare system; it is just a matter of what should be done. Over the past several years, the cost of healthcare in the U.S. has risen significantly and does not seem to lower, surpassing “$2.2 trillion in 2007”. Universal Health Care is a "Social Program", not "socialized medicine"; under Universal Health Care, one can choose any doctor(s) or public hospital (A "private" hospital, even in the U.S.A. today, is just that. A hospital that is exclusive to the general population according to the wealth and contacts of an individual. There is no "out of network" doctor, hospital or medical facility in the program.
Many would argue that here, in the United States, we have the best healthcare in the world. We benefit from the most up to date medical technologies, medications, and services. People come from every corner of the world to take advantage of our top notch physicians and facilities. But is this reputation warranted, and if so, at what cost? The average annual cost per US resident is $7,681; this comprises 16.2% of our gross domestic product. These costs rank us among the highest of industrialized nations (Lundy, 2010). Does this high expenditure equate to better outcomes? According to the National Scorecard on US Health System Performance (2008), the US received a 65 out of 100 possible points.
Finding the perfect Health insurance coverage has become more and more difficult in recent times. With so many restrictions such as pre-existing conditions and/or high prices, Americans have found it near impossible to secure health insurance in Texas. If you are self employed, unemployed or even under emplo yed then you may have been someone that could not secure the health insurance coverage that you deserve.
Healthcare jobs can be said to be the most rewarding career there is, although great satisfaction does come with downfalls. Helping profession jobs including health care, teaching, and human service can result in a job burnout. Stated in the book, this is in which a long-term career inclines stress which results in mental exhaustion, a sense of loss in personal feelings, and loss in accomplishment. As my major in college is nursing, and one day hoping to succeed my goals of being a pediatric oncology nurse, I have fears of one day I will max out the rewarding benefits a nurse acquired which will lead to a burnout. That is why taking time to breakdown my self-care assessment and visualizing what I need to improve in myself; therefore, resulting in a better outcome of help I can provide my patients with.
Health insurance costs have been rising steadily for years. It can be a big chunk of your budget. If you are young and healthy, it can be tempting to skip this cost. But when you skeptically ask yourself, should I buy health insurance?, you need to not just assume the answer is no. Instead, ask yourself these other questions first:
Our topic is "Healthcare" I'm supporting this topic because it's important for us to be in a good health where you are capable of not getting any disease but also you don't have to pay if you have healthcare insurance. Healthcare insurance automatically pays for your family financial and covers those expensive costs, so if you don't healthcare insurance you will have to pay money from your own pocket. Based on some research that I made it says "people get less medical care and less time care if they are uninsured," this important if you as person really need the attention and the need for someone to look over you. One of the reasons why I support health care is because it could save lives, this is a way of keeping more people in this world
When it comes to our health, a good healthcare plan is a very important subject for all individuals. Some even argue that it is a basic right to have one. Bernie Sanders stated, “Healthcare must be recognized as a right, not a privilege. Every man, woman, and child in our country should be able to access the health care they need regardless of their income…” (“Issues: Medicare for All”). However, reality tells us a whole different story. America is one of the most developed countries in the world with some of the best medical care. Yet, how can the people enjoy the benefits when it is almost unaffordable to most. People are afraid to fall sick just because they are afraid of how much it would cost. However, sometimes a doctor or hospital visit is unavoidable. In most cases, it comes at a great price, especially to the middle class and the elderly. Wealthy individuals are likely to reap the benefits of having an expensive healthcare plan, while the rest may suffer from the unimaginable cost of treatments, or even worse, live a risky life without insurance. An effective solution to this problem would be a Universal Healthcare System. This would ensure that all people have equal and affordable health coverage, centralized healthcare records for all individuals which will help easy diagnosis by doctors and reduce the intensive labor costs of medical billing. Moreover, it may boost the economy by freeing business from providing expensive healthcare benefits to workers.
“Healthcare is a basic need of every human being. It should be considered as a basic human right in which the nation should ensure that every people are covered by equal healthcare regardless the age, gender, and income” (Post, “Pros & Cons”). While healthcare is considered a basic human right by some, it is also a right to have the freedom to choose whether or not one should partake in having healthcare; People should not receive penalties for not having health insurance as some families cannot afford to be paying for it, and programs like Obamacare do not provide full coverage to all like it stated it would making it a place to dump money for some simply because it is required by the government. Solutions to address these problems have been stated such as single payer healthcare, but there is a reason that America cannot switch overnight to a system such as this.
Raise your hand if you’ve ever had to pay more than $100 for medicine at the pharmacy? More than $200? More than $500? Have you had to pay any of that for several months? Several years? I personally pay $500 a month, after insurance, for three vials of insulin every few weeks. I, or someone in my family, has been doing this since I was eight years old, so for about 12 years now. Don’t even get me started on how much I pay to go to an endocrinologist every months, to see an eye doctor once a year, to occasionally see a podiatrist or the several other types of medicine I get each month. If my father should pass away tomorrow I would no longer have health insurance. I rely on him and his job to provide me the insurance I need in order to continue living a healthy life. Without his assistance I would not be able to afford health insurance nor the medicine that I so
Personally, I believe it is impossible to have a free market medical system that works. I feel this way because almost any free market operating without adequate regulation erodes to corruption and greed. The idea of trying to assimilate a capitalist and socialist enterprise is absurd. Take the Affordable Care Act, while being a very noble and necessary stepping stone to attempt to introduce a single-payer program to the United States, it is ridiculous that, in our society, we are fighting about healthcare. Due to the politicization of our healthcare system, the focus of the welfare of our people is put aside in contrast to the agenda that the opposing party had to deliberately take every action possible to try and prevent and dismantle the ACA; and it is still trying without providing a viable alternative. Healthcare as a profit motive is anti-social justice. As a business owner myself, I understand that a business cannot be sustainable without profit per se, but there is this common practice among corporations to not reinvest in the company, to favor shareholder value above all else, to not pay those in the a field a decent wage, to extract every last cent from their customers, lobby for political advantages, and seek exorbitant tax cuts evading their fair share of the burden of this country and its economy. All this…at the expense and suffering of our citizens. There needs to be a complete overhaul reform that results in a single-payer system and it needs to be
Obamacare is one of the most talked about and debated issues of the century. Republicans want it repealed. Democrats want it to thrive. It’s effectiveness is not determined by politics, but by positive results. The vision of Obamacare is to provide healthcare for all Americans. The legislation provides the tools and framework to allow this ambitious goal of Obamacare to be met. Now, three years after its start date, it’s clear these goals are well on the way to being achieved. Obviously, in a free society, there will be those who disagree and will not sign up for healthcare for various reasons. Despite these people who disagree, the vast majority of Americans are now insured. Obamacare is effective because it expands overall health benefits, provides coverage for millions, and helps the economy, allowing Americans to be healthier, live longer, and out of medical debt.
I want you to imagine that someone very close to you has recently been diagnosed with a serious medical illness. You are left in a panic and want to do everything possible in order to insure their safety, but then you realize that they are not covered. They weren’t able to get the healthcare that they needed to save their life, so you were left there helpless. You were forced to watch them suffer because they were unable to pay for the very simple treatment that they needed because of their healthcare, and that was what decided their fate. Now I want you to imagine what it feels like if because of their unfortunate healthcare, they were not able to recover and died. You would feel devastated that you couldn’t have done more to help your loved one, but then it dawns on you. You could have saved them. If only they were able to get the same treatment as someone who was able to afford better healthcare, then they would still be alive. Their life was sacrificed simply because they were seen as an opportunity to make money, rather than a person who needed help. Healthcare in America should be changed because universal healthcare is proven to be more effective, more lives will be saved, it is constantly receiving warranted attention from the media, and it gets rid of social classes in healthcare, even though many people believe that they will be paying for other people’s healthcare.
America is a great nation, that is full of independent people. This is great, it leads to many good inventions and progressive ideas. But when it comes to the way healthcare works, America is lacking compared to the rest of the first world countries. The fully privatized health insurance leaves people of lower income without the access to the great healthcare we as Americans deserve. So, I think that America’s healthcare system should be rebuilt where everyone can go to the doctors without fear of the outrageous pricing.
People should be able to choose whether they want to have health insurance or not. It’s your choice into believing that you’re going to be healthy your entire life and something doesn’t happen to your body and starts acting a different way and you get real. I believe that in the end it should be your own choice but everyone should not always just rely on themselves because we may fail and we won’t have any back up. I say you should have health insurance because just to make sure that in the future something happens it’ll be taken care of and you won’t need to worry about having to ba a lot of money because you are very seriously in need for help.
Health care in America has been at the center of controversy for years. People on the “left” think that health care is a right and should be provided by the government. People on the “right” feel that that government should not be in the health care business. They should allow the free market to work. Both sides can make a convincing argument, but the bottom line is money. And who is going to pay for it. Health care has been a big debate in America for the past couple years.
