Every year the percentage of car crashes caused by people texting and driving rises. You should never text while driving. There are many deaths and fatal accidents from people taking their eyes off the road for five seconds to read a text. Texting and driving is becoming a bigger issue as technology becomes a larger part of our lives. Texting while driving has caused many car crashes in the past. People who have been in these accidents and survived even admit that they had gotten a text or sent one out before the accident happened. The amount of time someone’s eyes are off the road when reading a text message is about five seconds. In those five seconds a lot can happen like rear ending another car or being run into at an intersection. During the year of 2012 eighteen percent of all car crashes were caused by distracted driving according to the Federal Communications Commission. Some people will argue that the text message is important and that they have to read. However, is any text message ever worth risking your life or the lives of others? Even if you do have to read it you should pull over to the curb and then read it. Text messages can never be more important than your safety and other people’s safety. Police have been attempting to catch people who text and drive more in recent years. Often enough if you are caught texting and driving you will receive a fine. However, in some states the fine is only for new drivers which put teenagers more at risk to receive a fine. It is more likely that if a teenager receives the fine the parents will have to pay for
