For those interested in getting some kind of social media, say ‘goodbye’ to having peace in your life. Everything you put on social media cannot be deleted permanently. Have you ever stopped and wondered who all looks at your social media posts? In today's society, social media has given people the ability to share and stay caught up on recent events. People have even met their relatives that they didn’t even know they had. However, over time people have abused social media. Therefore, it’s very easy to mislead, misinform and misrepresent yourself or others. People should be more aware of what they put on social media.Virtually anyone who has social media can be tracked down. Currently, eighty-one percent of U.S. Americans have a social media. Social networking has changed the way that people interact with each other. Still to this day social networking is continuing to advance to provide better technology. Social media has made people lazy. People get on facebook for hours in the day. It also has affected people in a positive way by allowing people to reach out to others in a fraction of a second. In today's society, almost every kid has some sort of technology. This has affected the millennials in a horrible way. Kids do not know how to communicate. But, when they get on a mobile device they are not afraid to say anything. Our social media posts follow people around their whole lives. As previously mentioned, things like “Timehop” are apps that allow people to view posts and things that they have posted in the past. Whether or not it is one, two, five or even ten years ago it will still show up. As students go throughout high school and college they don’t seem to realize the impacts of what they share with to the world. Yes, people might be out drinking with the boys on Saturday night or getting their first dose of an actual college party and that is all okay until it starts showing up on your Snapchat story. Teenagers and young adults don’t always look at the big picture when considering something in the moment. They could be having the time of their life one night and not thinking about who might be monitoring what you post. On average, there are
Social media tricks people to believe others are living a ravisher life than they really are. They post only the highlights of their lives, and never the negative. It makes others view them falsely and more presentable than they actually are, which makes those viewing their profiles feel less satisfied with themselves and their lives. There are even some people who drop all social media because of how terrible it makes them feel, but there are also others who thrive for the attention of social media and go through ridiculous tasks in order to take the perfect picture. There have been many disputes over how social media websites such as Instagram or Facebook affects ones self-esteem, it can knock them down.
Thesis: Stay in the present moment, don’t let yourself believe you’re going to forget a memory because you didn’t document it through social media.
Not only is most of the world on social media, but many of the users are addicted to it. Checking social media has become a habit and part of many people’s daily routines, especially teens. Most studies are based around teens, because they are the most frequent users. In fact of the ninety-five percentage of teenagers that are on the internet, eighty-five percent of them are on social media (Marwick and Boyd 1). With the colossal amount of new and ignorant users, there is bound to be a plethora of issues to surface. This brings a large factor of immaturity to the table, increasing the intensity of all issues. Wray Herbert, a journalist of psychological science, writes in his blog about the teenage brain that adolescents “lack judgment and the ability to weigh future consequences” (1). This basically means that they perform actions based on impulsivity, without thinking how it will affect themselves and others involved. Teenagers have a hard time controlling this behavior because they are at a time in their lives where they make mistakes and have to learn from them. The easy fix would be to just delete all your accounts, right? That is the theory that many people think is the answer; however, they are wrong and it can be easily disproved.
Social media tricks people into believing others are living a rather lavish life, more than they are. They post only the highlights of their lives, and never the negative. It makes others view them falsely and more presentable than they actually are, which makes those viewing their profiles feel less satisfied with themselves and their lives. There are even some people who drop all social media because of how terrible it makes them feel, but there are also others who thrive for the attention of social media and go through ridiculous tasks to take the perfect picture. Even I can admit how self-centered I really am, my whole Instagram over explodes with pictures of just me, when I don’t get enough likes or comments I sometimes delete it as I think it’s not good enough.
Social media has been a topic of debate for years. Some people are strongly against any use of it while others like the instant connection it provides. A major concern over social media is the lasting effects it has on teenagers. Social media can affect teenagers through many ways including things like their self-esteem. Cyberbullying is a raging topic of discussion centered around teens social media use. It can also effect their people skills and create a lack of community involvement. Some parents think that watching what their children do on social media is an invasion of privacy but is your concern for their privacy greater than your concern for their safety? Social media poses a great danger to today’s children. It can affect many aspects of their lives.
People like to share the best moments of their lives to make it seem as if they have an exciting life. Imagine being able to know everything about someone just by looking at them. With a single glance during interaction, you can see someone’s profiles and activities. This would interfere with privacy as it allows everything about someone to be exposed. It would seem great and safe to encourage such a system, but it would also create bias people as they would reveal certain things about themselves that seem likable since they are aware that others can see such information.
Within our society, the internet has become the norm and is always present at the tips of our fingers. To present your ideas or share your thoughts on things around you, Twitter is the go-to app that is the most popular for these kinds of things. When you post something on Twitter, to announce to your followers/friends, you are tweeting. Tweeting lets you connect, express your feelings, thoughts, release information, and much more. We are so attached to our phones and twitter that we are more invested in others’ lives than our own. And tweeting usually leads to complaining, making us think our lives are miserable and sad. Since we are so invested in Twitter and social media, we are willing to give out information about ourselves to complete strangers, which can sometimes be a bit too much. However, Twitter has a character limit of 140. To what extent does tweeting, which consists of only 140 characters, have on how we communicate and our behaviors? When socializing on Twitter, it allows the individual to be whoever they want to be. Based off of their identity online, these individuals are able to express their feelings and reveal certain things about themselves, while excluding others. Being online, behind a screen, allows us to create a new identity, and what we say or tweet is usually catered a certain way to match what our audience wants to hear or would agree with. Due to the limit of 140 characters, this resulted in the change of grammatical sentences to the use of slang or abbreviations. To shorten up what we want to convey to our audience, we would use abbreviations so that there are fewer characters. This would sometimes result in the change of meaning and give off a more unfriendly tone. To communicate with others as well, we tend to use slang, which makes us sound cool and trendy. Twitter, which was an outlet for all these changes, affected our communication online and offline. Since social media is a big part of the youths’ lives, how we communicate online with our friends and our audience follows into the real world as well. For example, the slang for “going to” is “gonna,” and without realizing it, that is what we say to each other and sometimes, write in our English essays as well. Whatever
History shows that BuzzFeed has consistently been popular across many of the most commonly-used social media platforms. In November of 2016, BuzzFeed’s Tasty (the popular cooking channel and one of BuzzFeed’s 4 main tabs on their homepage) partnered with RITZ Crackers to help increase store sales during the popular holiday shopping period. The videos featured Tasty’s unique aesthetic for step-by-step recipe videos, shot from above to show what someone would see when cooking. RITZ utilized Facebook’s advertising tools to reach a specific target audience (Facebook Business). According to Facebook Business the campaign achieved:
Social media is used as an outlet to express feelings, thoughts, perspectives, and creative ideas and more to the world. There are numerous reasons as to why I use social media, a few entails connections, personal branding, and updates on entertainment. The main social platformsthat I am most active on are Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat. Each platform is used in different ways because they each serve different purposes. Instagram is used for personal branding.Twitter is used for connections and updates on entertainment, news, and personal blogging. Snapchat is used for social connections. I use these different social media apps on my spare time between classes, when I’m bored, and before I go to sleep. There are many aspects to socialmedia, but usually they are categorized into either the positive or negative. Social media is an outlet for many teens today, including myself. Generally, I use my social platforms for personal branding, social connections, and entertainment updates. On the Times article “The Secret Language of Girls on Instagram,” written by Rachel Simmons, she states: Girls can project a persona they may not have time, or permission, to show off in the classroom: popular, social, sexy. Cultivating a certain look is so important that it's common for girls to stage 'photo shoots' with each other as photographers to produce shots that stand out visually. (Plus a joint photo shoot is more evidence of friendship.)
teenage girl decided it would be acceptable to send a provocative photo of her to a guy that she had a crush on in school. Since Snapchat photos merely last a few seconds, she would send it to him on there. Only he will see it, she thought as she clicked the send button. Minutes later, she received a notification stating that he had taken a screenshot of her photo. The guy convinced the girl that the photo would only be viewed by him. The following day at school, the girl began to be harassed, and it seemed like everyone knew something that she did not. A teacher pulled her aside and advised the girl that she had seen a provocative photo of her on a number of students’ cell phones. That photo she thought would be safe was now set out in the open for everyone to see. Social media will never completely ensure one’s privacy. Once a photo is made public to the internet, it is out there somewhere forever. Snapchat, the social media app, provides a false sense of security and privacy for its users. Temporary photography is utilized via this application to communicate with others. When a photo is sent on Snapchat, the user has the control of the amount of time that the receiver can view the photo, one to ten seconds. Then, the photo disappears on the smart device, but the other person is able to screenshot that photo and do what they wish with it. After a photo is sent out to another person, the sender has no control of what is done with the photo. Snapchat is a hazardous social
How many times have you liked a picture about a cute puppy, but scrolled past the children in Romania, who are homeless? This simple question is not meant to make you feel bad. Thousands of Americans do this every day when they are scrolling through Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The real question, however, is why do we, as a society, tend to “like” the cute things, like the puppy, but ignore the real-life problems in the world, such as orphan children in Romania, a hot topic as of late. The answer is desensitization. Desensitization sits heavily in researcher’s stomachs when they see that most people like the happy family story, but cringe and don’t bother to click on the link to the War on ISIS. This is why social media is not a good outlet for people to display their lives. Social media gives an unrealistic expectation to how lives should be lived when all that is seen on Facebook is the “together” family, and not the “broken” family.
Humans have a strong desire to connect with others and the most popular way of doing so is through social media. Social media has been around since the late 1990s and has risen in popularity due to its ability to allow individuals to communicate with others. Though social media allow communication between individuals, this aspect does not always have a positive outlook on it. This bright and thrilling experience has the potential to turn into a dangerous participation that should not be authorized, most notable kids due to them being the demographic who uses social media the most. Kids are known to perform certain actions that do not create a positive outcome. For social media to allow these types of actions, it will only evolve the platform into a dangerous environment that isn’t suitable for the youth. Due to this, kids should not have social media due to the activities that they could perform. These activities could potentially lead to negative results that can affect their lives.
Television, radio, and social media are all ways to spread information. The 24/7 news cycle plows forward mercilessly on our desks, in our cars, and in our pockets. Thousands and thousands of messages and voices bombard us from the moment we wake up, fighting for our attention. All we see and hear, all day long, is news, and most of it is bad. No realizing the everlasting impact social media sites such as Facebook has on our lives, we reframe from using them in a manner of empowerment, uplifting and bring people together. Thinking back on the most recent election, we know that social media including Facebook can be used to influence the vote of the American people. Social media can be used to tremendously impact the American people way of thinking or the way of perceiving an individual. Social media has impacted America in so many ways for the modern day political campaign. It has become one of the world’s most powerful news outlet. The news that is posted on social media is not always accurate but it reaches a lot of people very fast. Three ways that political candidates can use Facebook are for spreading their platforms, polling their supporters, and assessing their standing in an election.

James Madison, the father of the constitution, created the first amendment to protect the rights of the citizens by allowing them to have their freedom of speech. People finally had a chance to express their thoughts on the government without having the fear of being arrested. But how has the use of this gift of freedom change over time? Before, freedom of speech has been used only by the press to get the news out in the world, informing everyone the truth of what is occurring around them. Now thanks to the invention of social media, anyone, anywhere could get their thoughts out on the internet where anybody could seen them. Social Media is the technology that has been growing rapidly since 1999. Starting out as a way for people to communicate with others, Social Media has become as an addiction for people as teens with their phones. People started expressing their views on this world in the name of freedom of speech, not knowing the limits to where they should stop. What many social media users don’t realize, is that they are allowed to share their thoughts and beliefs, but should be aware that they might be hurting others out there who don’t view something in a similar way. The article, “Social Media and Free Speech, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly,” states that, “when they express these more extreme views, or attack other people, that offense can be taken…”(2) Through social media people are starting to attack one another, cause their victims to go into a thick fog of
