Pitbulls are mixes of different breeds, and nobody really knows where or how it originated. The CKC do not recognise a Pitbull as a breed, it’s more of a task definition in terms of its ability to fight. Nobody knows for certain what breeds pitbulls are made up of but it is thought that they stem from an American Staffordshire Terrier, Bull Terriers and Bulldogs also other types of Terrier dogs. This breed has been around since the Second World War and was actually used as a war dog and it has a very high working ability. In essence the Pitbull, are the dogs that people have made to fight specifically. The Pitbull’s personality can’t be exactly pinpointed because they are as unique as humans.

Pitbulls have been selected and breeded for their fighting ability. They were bred to be more athletic and agile for fighting other dogs. (Position Para. 3-4) Pitbulls were purposely bred for fighting and then adopted as family pets.
