Millennials across the country are living in gluttony as their consumption of fast food exponentially increases. Because of their neglectance to be aware of what they are eating, teens are now predicted to experience an earlier age of death than their parents. Over the past couple of years, the number of people in our communities who are becoming obese is skyrocketing. Obesity is being passed down from generation to generation like old recipes. All of this is due to one thing, food. People are becoming very reluctant in watching what they are eating and continue to fall into the devious trap of fast food restaurants. People are lured to fast food restaurants because of their attractive prices, however, they have become blind to the serious health consequences that can arise from consuming too much of this unhealthy food. For the sake of the nation's children and future generations, millennials must be educated on how to become better consumers of healthier food in order to create an everlasting lifestyle of healthy eating. Obesity is the fifth leading global cause of death. According to the article, “Obesity Facts & Figures”, this atrocious disease takes the lives of approximately 2.8 million people each year. As times are changing, obesity is becoming more and more common in children. It has now reached the point to where more than 40 million children under the age of 5 are overweight, meaning they will most likely live a life with obesity (15). Living with obesity is
As years go by American weight struggle has been getting worse. People with diabetes today has more than double since 1994. While there are ways to help bring down obesity, most companies have not taken action. There are many factors to why obesity has only been increasing all these years.
If you can prolong your life, and make yourself feel better about who you are then why not overcome this overweight issue. In today’s world we are facing an epidemic that seems to be affecting even are young at an early age. We all know that obesity can have adverse effects on health, well-being, and relationship, and can be solved by eating organic food, exercising, and discipline. We are here to find out the different causes of obesity, and find out what we can do to overcome this fast growing epidemic. “Although people in the Unites States might not be eating more, they are gaining weight. According to the U.S Department of Agriculture, fat consumption by people in the United States has declined during past decades, but calorie expenditure has gone down as well. Adults are not burning the calories they are consuming, and as a result, obesity rates increased by 214 percent between 1950 and 2000. Two out of every three people in the U.S. were obese or overweight in 2010”. (Bird, 2011, March 26, p.1). They are several solutions that can be implemented to these causes, and some are individual, community, and government solutions. I feel it is everyone’s own responsibility to make they maintain their own health.
Eating healthy and exercising often, the two things seen as key against fighting obesity. While these are very important, they are not the only tools in the fight against obesity. Before we can rely solely on eating healthy and daily exercise, we need to reform how the issue of obesity is being attacked. Childhood obesity has become an exponentially growing epidemic that has no evidence of stopping anytime soon. The government needs to step in and help with the fight because of food deserts, faulty advertising, and nutrition guidelines, which are all factors out of the public's control. Once we figure out these issues, the real fight can begin.
Obesity is a growing epidemic in the American people, but what is the root of this seemingly unavoidable problem? According to David Zinczenko, it is the failings of the American society, but in the opinion of Radley Balko, it’s the facilitation of the government's support and the failure to take self-responsibility from the people themselves. They both have an opinion as to what the cause of obesity in America, but Zinczenko has the better argument. Through the use of real-life examples, refutation, and sound logic/reasoning Zinczenko writes a more persuasive piece than Balko.
Justin Timberlake, one of the most popular recording artists today, filmed a commercial for McDonald's. A spokeswoman for McDonald's said "the campaign is getting "buzz on the street." The song he sings in the commercial was also to be released as a full length single (MacArthur, 2003, p. 2).
In today’s world, convenience is a necessity and as a result fast food joints are around every corner. In addition to fast food being easily available, it is promoted everywhere on media which is only encouraging our youth to eat more fast food, when they should be eating healthier. Instead of promoting fast food, a much more convenient option, the government and schools should be promoting healthier foods and healthier eating habits, which can be achieved through making fast food less accessible. In her article, “Attacking the Obesity Epidemic by First Figuring Out Its Cause,” Jane E. Brody talks about how in the past, junk food was less accessible compared to the present day, “When I was growing up in the 1940s and ‘50s, I had to walk or bike many blocks to buy an ice cream
Over one third of the US population suffers from obesity and overweight. According to a study reported by the NIH (National Institute of Health), more than 1 in 3 adults were considered to be overweight, and 1 in 3 adults were considered to be obese. Children are also victims to this growing epidemic, with 1 in 6 children/adolescents anywhere from 2 to 19 were considered to be obese. This is a growing problem, and it has been for the last 20 years in America.
Imagine a world where people can not go outside because their body is not able to move because of how much people weigh and need to stay inside where machines are helping monitor the health of the body. If the obesity epidemic and obesity related disease don't stop now that is how the future world will look like for the next generation and it does not seem nice. Back in the 1970’s people would have never expected a future like that because it was all about healthy foods and exercising regularly. Now in 2017 it is all about eating at fast food restaurants and binge watching shows on Netflix. Many people's mentality today is why go outside to exercise when there is technology as entertainment where the gossip and entertainment is at? People fail to realize that lying on the couch or in bed after eating is a higher risk for obesity. Personal responsibility is what people are failing to accept when it comes to obesity, blaming others for something people can become educated about seems easier. The media is also at fault for all the propaganda about unhealthy fast food, and not the healthy food that benefits the persons body. 18-26 year-olds have the chance to change this generation's mentality about obesity and change the future generation alongside the media who should change what is being advertised and make the people choose a healthier and better option.
Body image and obesity are always going to be hot-button issues as long as fast foods restaurants are still in business. Obesity is a disorder involving excessive body fat that increases the risk of health problems. In other words, obesity is a condition where a person has accumulated so much body fat that it might have a negative effect on their health. Proportions of food are different from decades ago compared to now. Movie popcorn serving size was five cups with calories of 270 back in the 1980’s, now movie theatres are serving big tubs with loads of butter with calories of 630. Today proportions of food have really expanded causing calorie consumption to go up. To reduce obesity people should focus on educating the youth, promoting healthy eating and doing exercise at least an hour a day. Easily adding vegetables to what we eat, substituting that In-n-Out burger for something way less caloric.
Obesity is a very serious subject that a lot of people take lightly, especially us as Americans. America is the most obese country in the world. Statistics show that 300,000 people die a day in the United States of America due to obesity. This clearly shows that we have a serious problem that is massively underestimated. Obesity is also something that countries all across the world suffer from. For example, Australia is also one of the most obese countries in the world, and 50,000 people die a year from obesity in Australia. That’s 140 people who die per day in Australia. To solve the problem of obesity the prices of junk food should be raised and the prices of healthy food should be lowered and more convenient.
Obesity is one of the most significant threats to America's future. For many people, this problem can be pushed to the back of the list of the issues that America has, but it needs to be addressed. America is on the right track to solving this problem, but I still think we can push it even further.
Obesity, in addition to the negative impact on human health, also leads to considerable expenses for the global economy: reduced productivity, increase of the amount of fuel for transportation, rising medical expenses. To resolve the problem of excess weight is annually spent about two trillion dollars.
When being overweight, taking little steps is easier than running, so let’s start with the first step in obesity prevention. The emotional distress young adults can be feeling when they are overweight is only the first step leading to serious health disorders, and possibly suicide. Good health starts with good nutrition, and good health gives physical and mental benefits in daily life. Trends, as young adults know, bring changes, and the whole “America being known the #1 obese country in the world” trend, must be terminated. It’s imperative in remembrance that teens have different nutritional needs than adults. Their bodies are going through many changes that impact their physical and emotional well being, and will affect their health later on as young adults grow older. Each person is different, and every individual has a different necessity, tolerance levels, beliefs, strengths, and weaknesses. It’s good to embrace them all, but share the same responsibilities. And that responsibility is taking care of oneself to take care of others. How can society, possibly give care when they can’t seem to care for themselves? Take every step into consideration; have the responsibility to be an informed consumer, know family health history, maintain a balanced, healthy lifestyle, schedule medical checkups regularly, and be aware of disease symptoms.
Unfortunately, Obesity one of the most serious problems in the today's society. Some realize that obesity is problem that is nation wide. Our society should focus on the rising rates of child obesity. Sadly, ⅓ of children in the United States are affected by child obesity. Why is this problem so hard to handle? Are teachers, doctors, and our parents doing enough try to stop this big issue? Although there are some programs being developed try to help reduce children obesity, we aren’t putting the effort we need to stop this problem.
