There has been many school shootings due to the wrong people owning and having the ability to carry a concealed weapon. Not only could guns get in to the wrong hands, but the amount of funding that goes into providing them for learning environments is very costly. There are many different varieties of safety measures that would be safer than having guns on hand for school teachers and staff members. Schools will not be as safe if we are to put guns on campuses.
Many teachers feel as if having guns on campus would not be a good idea. Several people would think having guns in the classrooms would make it safer, but some teachers say that they would not be comfortable with handling a gun. Heidi Lesemann, a former elementary teacher, says, “I am appalled at the idea that teachers should be trained to carry guns in the classroom” (qtd in Thornton). Lesemann also

One, you put put a whole mess load of guns close to kids that can be used accidentally. Second, you create crossfire that can get a lot of innocent people killed. Third, you make it hard for police responding to figure out who the good guy is and who the bad guy is” (qtd in Chavez). Reece Talley, a teacher, firearms instructor, and a military veteran, says “It is my opinion that arming teachers is not going to be an effective deterrent to campus shootings. Most of the teachers I know will hesitate before firing. It’s the way they are wired. Stand in front of a student and take a bullet? Sure. But take out a shooter? They aren’t wired like police. However, making all entrances and exits secure will effectively stop school shootings. Rather than go after guns, let’s do something that really counts, something proven to work: Let’s make schools so hardened against a violent intruder that they lose their luster as “soft targets” (qtd in Thornton). No good will come of having guns brought onto school
Schools must be more secure. It's hard to find ways to make schools safer without sounding too extreme, but it's better safe than sorry. Lately there has been lots of school shootings and we are trying to find a way how to make learning facilities safer. One of the ways is not arming teacher, but there are many reasonable ways.
Should teachers and students be allowed to have guns on campus? According to Tierra Francois, guns allows her to feel safe on campus. She also says if teachers had guns it would allow her to feel safe in the classroom. Kenzie Kesselring believes that guns on campus is not safe with all the debates that happen on campus and people snap and you never know what's going to happen. She also says that students might have the fear of the other students with
The final reason why instructors should be allowed to carry a loaded gun on campus is because it gives students and staff an added sense of security. In a recent study it stated that students are 63% more productive when they are working in an environment that they feel safe in. This is because they are more focused on their work and less focused on their own personal safety. When students feel safe and are able to focus on their schoolwork then there is a much higher success
There are many reasons that teachers should not carry firearms. One reason is that children like to get their hands on absolutely everything, especially children who are younger. Many children love to allow their imaginations to run wild. They like to search for
A school's staff are our children's first and foremost defense against violent attacks. Posting "Gun Free Zone" signs has proven time and time again, that it will not stop a criminal from leaving a trail of victims. Leaving our staff untrained and unarmed ultimatley leaves all those in the school vulnerable, defenseless, and in the position to potentially be harmed, or worse, killed. Arming our teachers, prinicipals, and staff will give our children and all else in the school a chance to fight for their lives, if ever threatned.
Teachers should not be armed if they are not trained properly. Police officers, swat teams, and security guards go through years of training to face a dangerous situation. So why should teachers automatically have the right to carry a gun? Their job is to teach, not guard a school. According to Russ Moore, who is a school principal, “You would be taking people who were
Should teachers be able to carry guns in school? A question that has been asked for many years. With many recent school shootings the question is gaining even more popularity, dividing the country. However, while have teachers carry protection in school proves many benefits, having them in school could cause more harm than good. The first reason for not having teachers carry firearms is the threat they could propose if a child got their hands on it.
Teachers should carry guns because they can disarm a shooter. According to the previous history, If an intruder comes into a class, any instructor present, can shoot the intruder before the intruder kills anyone. For example, if an intruder bursts into a classroom the teacher can pull out her handgun out of her holster and stop the intruder before any tragedy happens.
According to TIME magazine, since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting on December 14, 2012, there have been over 290 school shootings all around the United States. Teachers, with proper training and determination to save lives, should be able to carry a concealed handgun in schools. Teachers should be able to carry for many reasons, including protecting students until police can arrive, eliminating the amount of school shootings, and helping the students feel more safe in the school if this were to happen.
Imagine yourself in school. It is your 7th period class and you are just waiting for the bell to ring to finally go home. The day has been totally ordinary until you and your classmates hear a loud gunshot coming from outside the window. Students are screaming and running frantically around the room. Teachers are rushing around doing all the procedures they learned from past drills. Except this is not a drill. This is real. You and your classmates huddle in the corner. Outside the school you hear more gunshots. Would this situation be different if teachers had guns? The answer is no. Teachers and staff at schools shouldn’t be armed with guns.
There have been several gun shootings in schools and students and teachers shouldn't be scared to go to school. Schools shouldn't have to have high security to keep things like this from happening. There needs to be stronger enforcement on this topic and there needs to be better punishments or ways to keep people from doing this.
There's an active shooter on campus *bang* they're in the room *bang* I love you." that's the last time a parent hears their child's voice. If teachers were allowed to bear guns it could prevent shootings from happening and it would secure the safety of the students.
Teachers should be able to have a concealed gun on campus because they have come into the teaching profession due to their love for kids. Teachers care about students safety and that is why they should have the right to have a concealed gun on campus to protect them if need be. When teachers get their background check they have to have their records gone over, answer tons of questions, and get fingerprinted. After going through all of this, why can’t they carry a concealed weapon on a school campus to protect their students? If there was a real emergency and teachers had guns, they could potentially save lives. Save their student’s lives!. Teachers love and care about their students just like they love their own children. It seems only right that teachers be given the same opportunity to save their students lives in an emergency, as they are with their own children. Again, the reasons above show why I think teachers should be able to carry a gun on their school
One reason teacher should not be able to have firearms in the classroom is because one of the children could get the gun out and start shooting it. Source 4 states “ The gun, by definition, would potentially be available to every student, teacher, and school visitor.” This shows that the student could
Every time I ask parents what they think about arming teachers they have a bunch of what if’s! What if the teacher goes crazy and shoots the kids? But statistically there are more students shooting the school then teachers! They say “fighting fire with fire” and by putting guns in the hands of teachers isn’t the answer. I believe the case right now is only the attacker has the fire at this point, and I think we need to put the fire in the hands of the good guys like the teachers and give them a way to protect themselves and their students. I have spoken to teachers and they say if any gun man that goes into their class room wanting to hurt anyone of their students, “they have to go through me first” so most people don’t think but teachers will lay down their lives to protect their students like if they were their own children so we should give them a way to do so.
