social workers are the middle [wo]men between families, social service agencies and schools; working to reunify kids with their families or working to keep kids with their families. By providing advocacy to biological families and foster families, social workers exercise their power of judgement in deciding if the home is a good placement for said child. In a video uploaded by Public Children Service Association of Ohio (PCSAO), the lives of 3 social workers from Ohio and their work experience are documented. Karla Lindsey describes her typical day as “chaotic, and unpredictable” dealing with daily new reports of abuse and neglect (PCSAO).
Misery, abandonment, and no love, how can one let a child grow up with thoughts so negative running through their minds? Children are removed from their homes, forced to live in strangers houses, and expected to behave like they live in a stable living environment. All this is occurring so fast, that they can’t process their situation and feel like they don’t have anyone in the world that loves them. Although our nation claims to be doing the best they can with child welfare, the entire program has focused their efforts on removing children from their homes instead of focusing on the child’s emotional needs. Mr. President, we need to fix this issue now because children are the future. When a family is torn apart because allegations of abuse, neglect, or financial issues, placing a child in foster care, rather than trying to fix the problem, can only further damage a child’s well being.
The controversial issue of whether or not Child Protective Services are doing their jobs properly, has grabbed nationwide attention. Child Protective Services is the name of a government agency in many states of the United States whose mission is to respond to reports of child abuse and neglect. Some of these cases may include physical abuse, sexual abuse, and mental abuse (Wikipedia). The child welfare system is corrupted. The parents and guardians who are accused of abuse are automatically labeled as guilty and will have to prove their innocence; instead of being innocent until proven guilty.
Child welfare systems are constructed to support families and most importantly to protect children from harm using prevention and intervention services. Child welfare is a great example to demonstrate how the NASW’s ethical principles are put into effect. They are based on values of service by helping the children in need and addressing the social problems they are faced with. Another value that could be used is social justice especially in cases that involve children because the whole objective of child welfare systems is to ensure the well-being of a child. The services are meant to support children who have been or are at risk of abuse or neglect.
Child abuse is horrible and it affects everyone in one way or another. Before 1963, there were no laws to protect the kids from abuse but thanks to social workers and other judicial people, there were laws passed (Pfohl). This paper is going to explain why it is so important for social workers to protect kids by talking about this history of abuse and why social workers need to be around. It will also discuss what social workers do today to prevent kids from being hurt. Social workers are useful in just about every aspect of life but in my opinion this is one of the more important jobs of a social worker because your protecting those of the future. Abuse isn’t just
Social workers are the critical bridge between families and the resources that they need. The job of those specializing in child and family services may include protecting children and families from domestic abuse, discrimination, and illness. They also help with connecting families with resources like food stamps, homes, and psychological treatments.
Also when becoming a social worker, the job will require that everyone who is involved in the situation is receiving help. According to the Child Care Careers book this may include giving individual help to every person in the situation. Such as, if the mother is a drug addict, she may require some rehab. Or if the father is very ill, he will need medical attention. Or if the parent(s) and a little insane or have brain trouble, they might need to go to an insane asylum.

Child welfare is one of the most important sociological topics today. It is a concept that is used to describe the combination of efforts and services that are designed with the primary objective of maintaining and promoting the safety as well as the wellbeing of children and ensuring that families have the necessary support they need to ensure that their children have been successfully cared for. Today there are several programs and services that work to prevent and protect children that are maltreated. Social Works play a major role in the protection of children and serve as an aid for young children. Children who are maltreated will go through a varying process of being removed from a home with an abuser to being placed in foster care and hopefully, eventually being adopted as well. Child Protective Services plays a large role in the protection of children today. In 2012 the Children’s Bureau celebrated 100 years of fight for children and their rights (Children’s Bureau Centennial). Over the past 100 years the Children’s Rights Movement have taken tremendous steps and will continue to improve the well being of all children in the future.
