Persuasive Essay On Birth Control

Decent Essays

61 million women around America are at risk for their rights being restricted. Despite the improvements of access to birth control, led by Barack Obama, the recently elected president, Donald Trump, seeks to repeal these actions and ban birth control. It is important to keep birth control legal because of its impacts on the U.S. economy, the restriction of women’s right to choose, and health benefits of birth control.
One primary reason to save birth control, is to protect our economy. An important benefit from contraceptives, is the lowered cost of public services, such as medical care, education, and sewage. It has been calculated that over a billion dollars have been saved for public funds, which otherwise would support newborn children, through avoiding pregnancies. This value would double to over two billion dollars for those children being raised to the age of five. The general population often perceives averting pregnancies as a way to provide better lives for the children of today, because for every dollar we invest in family planning, there is four dollars protected in education, health care, and sewage systems. Another bonus from birth control is through improving women’s wages. There has been a correlation between women who have access to contraceptives, and economic success, because women who have access to birth control typically make 40% more than those who do not. Additionally, many jobs will be lost from hard working citizens, if this law were to be placed.
