Medical Marijuana should be legal in all states
The evidence is overwhelming that marijuana can relieve certain types of pain, nausea, vomiting and other symptoms caused by such sickness as multiple sclerosis, cancer and AIDS. It can do so much with remarkable safety there is really no side effects. Infact, marijuana is less toxic than many drugs the doctors give to patients every day.
There is very little evidence that using marijuana has a significant health risk. Although cannabis has been smoked widely in Western countries for more than four decades, there have been no reported cases of lung cancer or emphysema attributed to marijuana. Even breathing in any city with poor air quality could be a bigger threat than inhaling a day's dose

Unlike cigarette smokers, most users do not take the drug on a daily basis, and usually abandon it in their twenties or thirties. Unlike for nicotine, alcohol and hard drugs, there is no clearly defined withdrawal syndrome, the hallmark of true addiction, when use is stopped"(Medical Marijuana: Benefits).
“An alternative simpler and more compelling explanation accounts for the pattern of drug use you see in this country, without resort to any gateway effects”(How Effective).
“While the gateway theory has enjoyed popular acceptance, scientists have always had their doubts. Our study shows that these doubts are justified”(Medical Marijuana). The people who are to exposed to the drugs and have the an easy opportunity to get and to use the drugs are more likely than others to use not only marijuana, but also harder drugs. Marijuana typically comes first because it is a lot easier to get.
"Consumer Reports believes that, for patients with advanced AIDS and terminal cancer, the apparent benefits some derive from smoking marijuana outweigh any substantiated or even suspected risks”(Consumer Reports). The evidence in this record clearly shows that marijuana has been accepted as capable of relieving the distress of great numbers of very ill people, and doing so with safety under medical
Medical marijuana has been one of the most controversial topics in politics for years regardings its legalization and any possible benefits. Marijuana is commonly referred to as the “gateway drug” and has been thought to be what causes the downfall of our youth in today’s society. This has caused Marijuana to earn a bad reputation due to the immense surrounding propaganda and bias opinions. Cannabis is the scientific name of the plant which is absolutely natural and free of chemicals, but the psychoactive components in the plant has been proven to be of medical use. If medical marijuana is prescribed correctly it has the potential to help thousands of patients due to the variety of benefits it can medically provide. Medical Marijuana should
Marijuana has survived the passing of time and still helps the sick today. The advanced stages of treatment for patients with Cancer, AIDS and other diseases often include, terrible nausea, vomiting, and different types of pain. Patients have reported much relief from
Have you ever wondered when and why marijuana was made illegal? The herbal plant, commonly used in medicines, was not considered a drug in the early 1900s. The Marijuana Tax Act of 1937 banned the use and sales of marijuana. This act was put in place due to careless slander. Marijuana, in America should be legalized because it is safer than alcohol and tobacco, marijuana funds gangs and cartels, and marijuana can replace toxic, addictive pharmaceuticals.
Marijuana in the medical field has countless usages from dealing with chronic pain to helping cancer patients with nausea. “Two of the most important treatments, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy, also cause damage and often, severe vomiting” (McKinley). Cancer therapies, such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy are essential in treatments for cancer though it often can result in extreme vomiting in the patients receiving treatments. Medicinal marijuana can help patients with their nausea and vomiting. If the vomiting ceases while using marijuana, the individual’s appetite is sure to increase making it easier for the individuals to sustain an adequate weight as cancer patients are most of the time under weight. “The smoking of cannabis, even long term, is not harmful to
Marijuana is a drug that is spreading all around the world and is now proven to be the most beneficial drug out there. More than 25 million Americans annually use it each year. If the country legalized it then everyone would have more jobs available to go around such as harvesters, dispensary clerks, distributors, or croppers. Thus, the unemployment rate is lowered and America could make more money if they taxed it (Jack). Not only could they tax it but also save more money because they would not have to lock up those people getting arrested every year. That way America could lower the country’s debt and then there is a lot less people in prisons. It would save the country billions of dollars each year and make billions more each year. This country needs to tax anything they can because taxing marijuana would bring in so much more revenue and America could also trade with other countries. Marijuana has also proved to help cure diseases such as glaucoma, Alzheimer’s, and other cancer diseases. It is proven that it can help alleviate pain, regain their appetite, help in slowing down tumor growth, help with dizziness, and help a patient go to sleep. THC, which is the main ingredient in marijuana, helps a cancer patient to gain back their sense of smell and taste so that person can regain their appetite. Medical Marijuana (oil) helps the dizziness by stopping their vomiting and keeping their food down and gain weight. Medicinal Marijuana has proved to help
With marijuana being a very popular drug, it is not a harmful drug. Marijuana is used by many people all around the world. The percentage of people who smoke has increased by a significantly large amount. “Ever since marijuana has been known to mankind, not one single account of death
“Studies in the early 1970s showed that marijuana, when smoked, lowered intraocular pressure (IOP) in people with normal pressure and those with glaucoma” (Welsh). Other illnesses marijuana helps would be epilepsy. For example, Robert J. DeLorenzo, of Virginia Commonwealth University, gave marijuana extract and synthetic marijuana to epileptic rats. The drugs rid the rats of the seizures for about 10 hours.(Welsh) Cannabinoids like the active ingredients in marijuana, tetrahydrocannabinol (also known as THC), control seizures by binding to the brain cells responsible for controlling excitability and regulating relaxation. Now it doesn’t completely cure the disease, but it does help the symptoms and most of the causes. Even if it helps a little, it's still better than nothing. It makes it one step closer to finding a cure, with more research and data. Some myths about marijuana are that people get addicted to it easily. A study has shown that most who use marijuana do not become addicted to it. Published data showed that only 9% of adults and 17% of young people get addicted to it (Rathi). Another myth was it’s harmful. It’s not as harmful as other drugs. It is not as dangerous as opioids, for example, but while marijuana may not be as bad as opioids, it still can be dangerous. Another myth would be inhaling marijuana has different risks than eating it. The risks are mostly associated with
Weed has been proven to be non-addictive although in high quantities some people could show addictive or withdraw symptoms. Although most people have been addicted to cannabis these small percent were also proven to be on other (most of the time heavier) substances as conducted by D.R. James C. Anthony (his background) (Medicine ) back in 1994.
The legalization of marijuana in multiple states has sparked a nationwide debate. Marijuana has been legalized for either medical or recreation and even for both of the reasons in some sate. believe marijuana should be legalized for recreational use in Indiana because marijuana will be controlled better, it will allow law enforcement to shift their focus to more important issues in the community, and it will stimulate the economy.
Another thing about marijuana is that many sick people can’t used the medicine that works best on them.Medical marijuana is the only medicine that relieves their pain and suffering for many seriously ill people. Marijuana has been shown to help symptoms of a huge variety of serious medical conditions including AIDS, cancer, and glaucoma, and is often an effective alternative to synthetic painkillers.
Although marijuana is illegal and lacks FDA approval it should be used to treat cancer. Opponents of medical marijuana argue that it is too dangerous to use, lacks FDA approval, and that various legal drugs make marijuana use unnecessary. They believe marijuana is addictive, leads to harder drug use, and injures the lungs, immune system, and brain. They also believe that medical marijuana is a front for drug legalization and recreational use. Benefit that it is isn’t a great treatment for cancer but could help treat some of the symptoms. The government agree that medical marijuana can be a safe and effective treatment for the symptoms of cancer, AIDS, MS, glaucoma, and other conditions. They cite peer-reviewed studies, prominent medical organizations, and major government reports which group the use of marijuana as medicine throughout world history. It can also resolve many problems dealing with HIV. Marijuana is effective at relieving nausea and vomiting, especially caused by chemotherapy used to treat cancer. Marijuana can also relieve the spasticity of the muscles that is sometimes associated with multiple sclerosis and paralysis. It can also help treat appetite loss associated with HIV/AIDS and certain types of cancers.
Along with "getting high" from smoking marijuana, there are many problems that can occur both physically and mentally. Immediate effects hold a wide range of symptoms. Users suffer many symptoms from increased heart rates, nausea, and headaches, to agitation, dizziness, confusion, and paranoia. Respiratory problems are more likely to occur, such as asthma and lung cancer. Smokers might experience panic attacks, difficulty with short term memory, feeling clumsy, and being uncoordinated. Other kinds of effects are seen in being withdrawn from society and peer groups. Lack of enthusiasm in life can become a problem for the user in quitting. Severe mental disorders and psychosis may also be seen later in life. The one symptom that
In 2006, a young man in Colorado called Mason Tvert issued a challenge to the then-mayor of Denver and eventual governor, John Hickenlooper. You bring a crate of booze. I’ll bring a pack of joints. For every hit of booze you take, I’ll take a hit of cannabis. We’ll see who dies first. Mason went on to lead the campaign to legalize cannabis in his state. His fellow citizens voted to do it — by 55 percent. After a year and a half of seeing this system in practice, support for legalization has risen to 69 percent. (Hari, 2016)
Over the past few years legalizing medical and recreational marijuana has been a hot political topic. Medical marijuana is legal in twenty states, and use of recreational marijuana is legal in four states: Washington, Colorado, Oregon, and Alaska. It is also legal to carry small amount of marijuana in Washington D.C. In this paper I will discuss the history of marijuana in the United States of America and the ethical pros and cons that are related to use of this plant for medical and recreational purposes.
Many studies have shown that the “more marijuana one uses, the more likely one has the risk of developing head and neck cancer” (Giannasio). This is why marijuana is as harmful as tobacco because the more one consumes it for medical uses or even just as an escape from reality then, the bigger the chance that person will develop head or neck cancer. In addition, “it has been proven that a smoke of marijuana “contains 50%
