Many people argue on whether abortion should really be classed as mortality, especially in Down syndrome babies, but why do people think this? Some say that women should have the right to control their own body as an individual but others argue that abortion should not be aloud. Iceland is close to being the first country where no one is born with Down syndrome as 85% of women choose to abort when tests indicate downs. 74% of the population say that people with Down syndrome aren't human, mainly on the fact that they have an extra chromosome. Everyone should have the same rights as each other, just because you have a mental problem, doesn't mean that they shouldn't be aloud children of their own. Many other people say that people with down syndrome can’t have a normal life as they can’t reproduce but this isn't true. They may not be able to reproduce as well as everyone else but that doesn't mean that they can't do it. But the question is, why does so much discourse surround people with down syndrome?
Every woman should have their own personal choice on if they wish to abort their child or not, so if they choose to do so, people shouldn't be calling it murder. Some pregnancies come as a shock which could mean that they as a person might not be ready to be a parent, especially knowing that their child is going to have Down syndrome. Knowing that your child is going to be born with Down syndrome could be quite stressful for some women as it's quite a big responsibility to have, looking after a child has a big responsibility anyway, but just think how hard it would be if the child was to have something mentally wrong with them. Therefore women, as individuals, should have their own right on whether they want to abort their child or not.
Abortion is a horrible thing, weather the baby is going to have problems or not, it shouldn't be aloud. Every child should get a chance to live, Just because it may have Down syndrome or autism etc doesn't mean that it shouldn't get a go at life. Iceland is about to become the first country where no one with Down syndrome are born as 85% of their women are terminating the pregnancy. The CBS news website quoted that “Iceland has two people with Down syndrome born each year.” This
What is this world coming to? Some people truly believe it is right to kill an innocent fetus. Mothers’ who are old enough to conceive are old enough to support a baby, whether they are barely a teenager or coming to the end of their “golden years.” Regardless of the circumstance, a baby should never be aborted.
How would you feel if someone took away your ability to live? Imagine not having any say in whether or not you want to have a life. Well babies have no choice when they’re in their mother’s womb. If a woman aborts their baby, the baby has no choice but to go with it. Their whole future is demolished. I believe abortion is wrong when committing it for a selfish reason.
In the bible it indicates that unborn children are worthy of the same protection and rights as an adult. In Jerimiah 1:5 it says, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before I consecrated you, I have anointed you a prophet to the nations.” This meaning that God already knows the unborn child. That God made that baby in his image and is a gift. The prenatal test finds out about the child having a disability when the fetus is 9 to 10 weeks into the pregnancy. At this stage it is the size of a strawberry and the baby has eyes, eyelids, body parts starting to develop, and the baby is starting to make movements in the body. Having a baby is a miracle in itself and should be cherished and not aborted because of a disability. If Susan is a Christian, then she knows that abortion is murder. Her morals come out in this dilemma because she feels very uncomfortable with the idea of abortion. This could mean that if she aborted the baby she will feel guilty. “guilt warns people to avoid things that violate the moral code that they have been taught” (Uhley ) It is society telling her and pressuring her to do differently. In the article Congenital Defect do not Justify Abortion it says, “studies reveal that 90% when pregnant women learn they are carrying a Down Syndrome baby they abort the pregnancy. Due to feeling pressure from both doctors and insurance companies” (Colson). Christians believe that you should love everyone because God created everyone in his own image and this should never be
One reason why abortion is wrong is because there are many other safer solutions. In the article, Why Do More People Choose Abortion Over Adoption?, Kristi Burton Brown stated: “In the USA, there are approximately two million infertile couples waiting to adopt, many times regardless of the child’s medical problems such as Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida, HIV infection or terminally ill. Dr. Brad Imler, President of America’s Pregnancy Helpline, confirms the challenge of waiting couples by stating: Only 1% of the Helpline’s annual 40,000 clients inquires about adoption.” Putting him/her up for adoption will give them a better chance at a happier life rather than abortion. The solution for a baby should not be death. If it was for a selfish solution, you're sacrificing a life many other families would love to raise as their own.
This entails, women should have the opportunity to decide if they want to go through the mental and physical exhaustion of having a baby with disabilities such as Down Syndrome or anencephaly, both of these diseases also cost a plethora of money, something not all families have. In conclusion, every one of these problems could have been solved with the access of safe abortion clinics. Mothers shouldn't go to the extent of a clothes hanger to have an abortion, be mentally traumatized from the pregnancy they do not want, and if parents don't want a disabled child that is their choice not to
If medical tests have proven that the child will be born with severe handicaps that would greatly reduce the quality of life or endanger the fetus, the opportunity to terminate should be available. Allowing abortion because of fetal disability may actually benefit the child in the long run, by saving it from a life full of unnecessary complications. This, however, is a very controversial reason and is not generally accepted by many people due to moral reasons.
Many people think of abortion as murder and that killing an innocent, unborn human being is wrong. Abortion is a fundamental right and a right of privacy for a woman. She should be able to make a decision of whether or not she has the child. If a woman doesn’t want to have a child and has no choice but to have it, then that child is more likely to be given up for adoption or even neglected or abused. Unexpected pregnancies can lead to birth defects, depression for the mother (which can affect the baby) and reduced amounts of breastfeeding.
Did you know 80% of women abort their kid if they have down syndrome? Abortion is where they end the baby’s life well it is still in the womb. Abortion has been an issue since the 1960’s and continues to grow today. About 1/4 of pregnancies end in abortion and 1/3 of americans before the age of 45 have gotten an abortion. ( (Guttmacher.) Abortion should be illegal considering the reasons for it, ethics and medical effects.
In the United states a child is aborted every 30 seconds. Just in 2017 there have been 997,437 and is going up every 30 seconds (Kell). This is a crazy amount for only one year, people shouldn’t be getting pregnant if they don’t want a baby or aren’t going to give it up for adoption. Getting an abortion is taking an innocent life, some women require psychological help after getting an abortion, we should have adoption over abortion, and if people consider infanticide illegal then why isn’t abortion illegal. These women are hurting themselves along with the growing fetus inside of them. There have also been instances when doctors have tried to provide an abortion and the child ends up living. People shouldn’t be allowed to have abortions, it should be illegal.
Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. Many people believe it is 100% wrong and even consider it to be murder. The definition of abortion is; “The termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to being capable of normal growth.” These pro-life believers do not support the idea of abortion and believe it should be illegal. Many of these supporters do not know that if abortion were illegal they would still be performed, unfortunately by an uneducated staff. Over 70 thousand maternal deaths occur every year because of unsafe abortions. These women die, so the idea of supporting pro-life is contradictory, this is why the nation should be pro-choice.
The case of Deb and Derek is a perfect example to support my view towards abortion. The couple who has been married for two years have realized that Deb is 16 weeks pregnant with a child who has down’s. Down syndrome is genetic disorder in which a person has 47 chromosomes instead of 46 which results in birth defects including mental retardation and delayed physical, social and mental development (Smolkin, Bourgeois & Findler, 2010, p. 165).
Though the Supreme Court voted pro-choice in the 1973 court case of Roe v. Wade, abortion still remains a hot topic among the American population and political parties. The case was based on an argument on the 14th amendment: right to privacy, that made it the woman's decision to have an abortion. This amendment, however does not protect the liberty and privacy of the fetus, meaning, the child does not receive his or her inalienable rights until after birth. Ever since Roe v. Wade was enabled, there has been a strict division within the United States between the pro-life, and pro-choice believers. The idea of pro-choice negates the 5th amendment rights to life and liberty. What does it say about the right to kill in the constitution? Nothing. Surgically aborting an unborn child is unethical, cruel, selfish, and most importantly, it's murder.
For many of years people would get abortions for being too young of a parent. From my religious perspective I am fully against this situation and will not support it in any way. I know people out there that have went through with abortions and it makes me sick to my stomach. This sickening option for mothers should be banned for every kind of situation. Not only is it harming the baby it will also make an impact on the mother forever.
I believe that it is a woman’s choice whether to keep her child or not. I don’t think that anyone should interfere with the choice of the provider of the baby. Abortion is a popular topic in the debate world, but I strongly believe it shouldn’t since at the end of the day the woman is liable for her child. In this article, an unknown writer wrote, “The fact that a fetus may or may not have a beating heart, developing neurological structures, identifiable digits, or any other human quality does not equate abortion to murder. All embryonic organisms resemble a developed version of said organism. Additionally, a fetus does not have the mature, necessary neuroanatomical system required to feel pain until 26 weeks gestation. Not to mention,
People have many different beliefs on this, whether or not something like this should be legal or not. There is a lot of debate going on right now especially with the presidential election, on whether or not abortion should be illegal or not. Proponents say that abortion should be legal and they say that women’s choices should not be defined by the government or by religious beliefs. These people will say that even if abortion is illegal, pregnant women will end up going on an illegal route. While on the other hand, opponents, suggest that there is pro-life. This means that women should keep their babies no matter what the circumstances are. Opponents say that the baby has no say in this and that abortion is murder. They also say it is unfair for couples who can not have kids and who want to adopt. Even if they have the ability to give birth, someone is always looking to
