Animal testing should not be used in cosmetic industries as a source of experimentation because it is unethical and inefficient. It is a cruel way of trying to find results that are not even always trustworthy. Everyone has a different reaction to different chemicals so why even bother animals for testing? Also different species can respond differently when exposed to the same chemical so animal testing can be inefficient. The results from animal tests can be quite variable and difficult to interpret therefore it may not be applicable to human beings. Thus, consumer safety still cannot be guaranteed even after these gruesome tests which are totally unethical. It is also unethical to torture and end the lives of these animals each year for our own luxury. Everyday cosmetic industries are using defenseless animals very cruelly just to carry out some most often useless tests. Instead they should use other alternatives which has been proved to yield better and accurate results than tests involving animals.

Some people believe it reduces the risk of harming a human since its considered inhuman to test on humans. Testing puts animals through very uncomfortable situations like going blind because some sort of eye drops were inserted in their eyes or getting a skin burn because some hand cream was defective. Understanding how this can be very catastrophic if it were tested on a human but why do we use products that are harmful to humans even when we know it can hurt them.

Animal testing for cosmetics and medicine should be banned. Everyday thousands of animals are being tortured for science. The experiments that are performed on these poor animals are very inhumane. Scientists have a choice to make, they can choose to use animals and torture them or they can use alternatives like artificial skin from humans and/or animals to see how they react. For example, In “The 5 Worst Animal Experiments Happening Right Now” the author states, “Every year, more than 100,000 primates are experimented on in the United States. Monkeys in labs are subjected to painful, invasive, and irrelevant experiments. They’re starved and restrained, and they’re infected with diseases and pumped full of chemicals and drugs. Experimenters drill holes and screw objects into their heads. Eventually, the animals are killed.” Scientists are performing unrelated experiments on monkeys, they are being tortured by scientists. In the video on this webpage it shows experiments being done on monkeys and the babies are being tortured in tiny mesh cages with bursts of air and loud sounds. Another example is from “11 Facts About Animal Testing.”, The author states “Over 100 million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused in US labs every year.” Scientists are using an extremely large amount of animals for research every year. Just in the United States, “there are about 26 million different species, from dogs to birds, being used every year for medical and science related testing” (“Animals in Science / Research”). Throughout the process of testing, “monkeys are addicted to drugs, cats are deafened and have holes drilled into their skulls, sheep and pigs have their skin burned off, and rats have their spinal cords crushed” (“Animals in Medical Experiments”). As a result, animals face cruel conditions and have no way of fighting back. Although medical testings on animals may cure the deadliest diseases such as cancer and tuberculosis, the abuse and mistreatment these animals face while testing medicines should be deemed inhumane, and such practices should be banned in the United States.

If you aren’t aware of what animal testing is, it refers to "procedures performed on live animals for the research into basic biology and diseases, assessing the effectiveness of new medical products, and testing the human health and environmental safety of consumer and industry products” (Humane Society International.) A lot of people are pro animal testing and they have validating reasons but the bad outweighs the good in this situation.

Experimentation on animals has animal rights advocates and some scientists questioning the effectiveness and validity of animal testing for medical advancement. Dating back to the 2nd century B.C., early Greek scientists performed experiments on living animals for the purpose of advancing their knowledge and understanding of the human body. However, recent research has confirmed that, “animals rarely serve as good models of the human body” (Animal Testing). Everyone agrees that animals are used for research. Some people believe that using animals for research is cruel and unethical, while others believe that using animals for research is necessary to explore medical treatment for humans. Experimentation on animals is costly, unethical, and unreliable and should be prohibited.

Everyday tests are being conducted on animals in laboratories. These tests include ones to make improvements on certain cosmetics, for drugs, foodstuffs, pesticides, and a range of medicinal purposes. The list goes on, needless to say that thousands of innocent animals are being killed each year, for decades now. The number of deaths has been estimated to be around 75,000 annually according to a study conducted by members of the Huntington Animal Society in 1997. Fortunately groups exist in society that try to shut down animal testing by raising awareness to the public. The dominant group is called People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, also known as PETA. As you could probably guess since there are experiments being tested on animals, there must be groups that condone it, that don’t see it as something too wrong. The perfect example is a group known as the Royal Society which holds thousands of these tests. As you can guess, there are more organizations who support animal rights, therefore there is a larger percentage of people who want to put these tests to an end. For years they have been coming up with ways to do so, but there is one specific compromise that may be beneficial in years to come.
