Personal and Professional Challenges
Challenge is often viewed as a negative and rejecting word. In reality life would not move forward without unfavorable factors. Life is a series of pleasant and unpleasant elements and events combined together to take us to our desired destination. Obstacles help us to learn and grow in our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects during our lifespan. Self-improvement is the first step to advance and navigate personal and professional life to the right direction. Opposing forces in life help build our characters, teach us lessons we need, and make us realize that anything is possible

Nurses must strive to sustain a healthy lifestyle to carry their responsibilities efficiently. Physical activity, eating healthy foods, and sleep are three important factors in maintaining physical health. With nurses’ busy work and school schedule, it is so difficult to commit to these goals. Setting priorities and following scheduled activities will be a good time management strategy to achieve those objectives. Studies show that exercise, eating the right food, and sleep are very important stress reliever factors. A workout buddy is a great motivational tool in maintaining fitness goals. Healthy eating starts from a research about healthy foods and their positive effects in our health.
Sustain a Positive Mental Health Mental health and physical health go hand in hand. “Mental health is about the way you think and feel, and your ability to deal with ups and downs” (Mental Health Foundation, 2013). Nursing by nature is a very stressful job. Stress can influence individuals’ mental well-being. It can cause depression and negative thoughts. To manage a healthy mental health nurses should dedicate some time (5-10 minutes) in the morning and evening reflecting and thinking on positive events. Meditation, yoga, and prayers are very effective methods for releasing stress. Reading self-help books and promoting positive thinking, asking for help when needed, along with a healthy social life are good resources to achieve mental health.
Throughout the past couple of months my fellow peers and I have been studying the topic ‘challenge’ and how it affects our lives and people around us. In our everyday lives we are confronting challenges, some are as small as walking up a few steps, and some are larger and more challenging that could be life or death circumstances.
Life is like an obstacle course, you run into multiple obstacles on the way to the finish line, and there's no telling how many hindrances you may encounter. Very few people can go their whole life without obstacles along the way, others can’t seem to get away from them, but with every obstacle comes a beneficial or deleterious concomitant.
Obstacles are unavoidable parts of our lives. Obstacles constantly come in the way and slow us down. However, these obstacles should not be viewed as being harmful. They are essential factors in order for one to succeed. They can change the course of one’s life, and encourage one to work harder. Therefore, obstacles can be beneficial.
I have learned a great many things from playing soccer. It has changed my entire outlook on and attitude toward life. Before my freshman year at Cool high school, I was shy, had low self-esteem and turned away from seemingly impossible challenges. Soccer has altered all of these qualities. On the first day of freshman practice, the team warmed up with a game of soccer. The players were split up and the game began. However, during the game, I noticed that I didn't' t run as hard as I could, nor did I try to evade my defender and get open. The fact of the matter is that I really did not want to receive the ball. I didn't' t want to be the one at fault if the play didn't' t succeed. I did not want the responsibility of helping the team
Everyone has obstacles in life, but find different ways of overcoming the adversity. When you overcome obstacles, you either have a negative or positive attitude. But in the end, you usually end up happy with your outcome. People overcome challenges by not giving up, having a good attitude, and being confident. First, not giving up helps people get over challenges because when you give up, you're throwing away your idea and thinking that it may not change the world or it won't have an effect on anyone.
Obstacles. Everyone has been forced to overcome them at some point in their life. These obstacles have shaped everyone and helped them become the person they are today. Challenges are a part of life and everyone will face them at some point in their life, but it is how people handle it that determines their future. This idea can be seen in many pieces of text including the following poems. “Invictus” by William Ernest Henley and “The Rose That Grew From Concrete” by Tupac both convey the idea that obstacles are important in everyone’s life and help shape everyone as a person on the way to their dream.
Life is full of challenges. In the stories, “Breaking Through Uncertainty-Welcoming Adversity” and “Neighbours,” written by Jim McCormick and Lien Chao, the main characters illustrate benefits derived from taking risks. Even though both people in these texts undergo personal challenges, in “Neighbours” the character, Sally, receives greater benefits from taking risks than McCormick in “Breaking Through Uncertainty-Welcoming Adversity”.
Although many of the older nurses reported neglecting their own needs the study outlined several great self-care strategies for older nurses. These self-care strategies included; regular exercise, eating healthy, and taking time for yourself. Eating healthy is especially important for nurses because many nurses do not take time during their shifts to eat or drink water. One nurse stated “meal breaks, that’s got to be the biggest laugh out”, while yet another nurse said “I don’t drink water…basically, I have coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee” (Gabrielle, et al., 2008, p. 321). After implementing self-care strategies outlined in the study many nurses reported having decreased aches and pains, lower blood pressure, decreased weight and overall better mental and physical health. Nurses who engaged in regular physical activities also reported better eating and drinking habits. Sara, a midwife of 44 years, had type-2 diabetes, obesity, and osteoarthritis from lack of self-care. Sara adopted a regular exercise program, changed her diet and cut back on her work hours. After making these changes she stated, “I’ve lost 36 kilos, I go to the gym, I walk, I swim. I do all the things I said I
Obstacles change our way of thought and affect our emotions. A person’s values change as well as their character and they develop an understanding on their situation. Through the hardships of any situation, there is some way or another a solution only in the presence of desire.
The requirement of nursing school is that students are fully committed and students tend to forget about taking care of themselves and investing in comfortable footwear for labs and clinical. According to Anderson (2016) keeping a healthy eating habit is beneficial for nursing students as they may find themselves pulling all-nighters and spending endless amount of time in the library. Eating healthy food, sleeping, exercising regularly and investing in comfortable shoes is
“Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant.” What the Roman poet Horace was saying was that when there is an obstacle in our way, our true colors will radiate. I could not agree more. When we as human beings feel passionate about achieving a goal, we may learn something new of ourselves, maybe a new trait that we did not know we possessed, when we reach new heights we did not know we could push ourselves towards. Challenges are similar to tests. Challenges are faced every day, but how we respond to them determines how strong we really are. Prime examples are superheroes and students that move dramatically.
Everyone experiences adversity. Challenges that everyday people experience can potentially shape, improve, or destroy one's sense of self and personality. Through all these hardships and seemingly impenetrable obstacles, the most pertinent component of one's ability to overcome can only be shown in actions taken despite the odds. People have one of two options; to let those obstacles overwhelm them and keep them from pursuing all that they were destined to accomplish, or to march forward, fight harder and push past the seemingly impossible circumstances to become greater than they ever expected to be, but until they take the step that enables them to be successful -- they are stranded. All of our actions, mistakes, successes, and behaviors shape our person and what we can or cannot become, but what will always matter is our individual decisions and actions not those of the people around us because at the end of the day, we are the ones who have to deal with ourselves.
Life is something that is much more complex than anyone can imagine. No matter who the person is or how old they are, everyone faces various obstacles and challenges that make their lives difficult. Some people are faced with physical limitations such as not being able to pick something up or walk up a flight of stairs while others may be faced with mental limitations such as being unable to comprehend something that’s going on. Two of the toughest points in an individual’s life come during the years of adolescence and late adulthood. These points of a person’s life can be overwhelming and stressful as a person tries their best to grasp the changes occurring before their very eyes.
To achieve positive and sustainable health outcomes it is important to understand the relationships between the subjects of person, environment, health, and nurse. People are unique and they prioritize their values differently. People are constantly seeking to define their truths and their purpose. These unique perspectives of the world guide the actions of everyone. There is a constant interaction between people and their environment. People and their environment both impact the wellbeing of each other. Health is multifaceted. Health is the culmination of physical, physiological, psychological, social, and spiritual status. These aspects of health are interconnected. Absolute health may never be achieved. However, nurses work to progress their
Challenges are the structure of self-development, so people could to develop critical-thinking skills to overcome those challenges. For example, workers are constantly encountering new set of challenges. The challenges help workers to gain more knowledge of their career and will prepare them for future challenges. According to a journal written by Doody discussed on jumping out of comfort zone in a medical field, “issues pertaining to patient safety and operative outcome targets may restrict the amount of autonomy that a trainee may be given to move from his or her comfort zone to the learning zone” (Doody). This prepares workers to encounter challenges, and how they will handle the situation either on their own or help from others. By doing so medical trainees will be able to adjust to their jobs on a medical field. It can help them learn and develop new tactics dealing with the situation because “advanced learners who require more complex, unpredictable challenges with higher stakes to maximize their learning” (Doody). People who are set in complex challenges will be able to handle the situation, which it can increase their ability to handle similar challenges they will encounter in the future. Comfort zones limits people from handling challenges, but enforcing challenges within their work can help them overcome the comfort zone. Challenges are necessary for people
