Working in Medicine has always been my dream. As a young child I was inspired by many doctors I have been with. Getting into Medical school, however, is my first step. Medical school is something laudable to get into. Medical school is my first trial into achieving my goal in medicine. From biochemistry 96 I have learned many aspects of realizing my goal. This will be very hard. Trying to get into medical school will most likely be my hardest trail to pass; however, I will try my best. My plan for medical school is just as the path it takes to get into it follows. First, I must attain a well GPA within college. I have too at least achieved a 3.0 which in itself is difficult at the University of California level. Trying to get a 3.0 GPA for …show more content…
I grew up with many young children in my life. I have many cousins, nephews, and nieces. Taking care of them was almost a blessing in my opinion. Also I loved to visit my pediatric, which itself is odd for a young child. However, my joy was manifested because the doctors would always heal me, always made me feel good. Going to my pediatric as a sick child brought hope into my eyes because I knew I would be cured. This kept on inspiring me. Also, I was somewhat encouraged by my family because my older brother is an engineer, which automatically led me into the medicine field. From the influence of my family and my doctor, I became very infatuated with medicine. My motivation also comes from my family as well. My family suffers from many medical problems such as diabetes, heart failures, and cancer. Even though I want to become a pediatric, helping people such as my family created the idea of becoming a doctor. I have seen numerous family members go through serious medical attention. My grandmother has suffered through two heart attacks in her life. Miraculously she is still alive and well. However this caused me great grief and distress. I also have seen my great grandfather passed away. Seeing someone passing away is very impactful to one’s life. After his death I believed that was the trigger that I needed to start my path into the medical field. My great grandfather’s death, and my young nieces and …show more content…
First is getting good grades. Second is making my application itself better. I will have to find clinical experience. However, this itself should not be too hard. There are many opportunities to find experience such as a hospital. Hospitals have many experiences that an undergraduate may have access to. There are opportunities such as shadowing a doctor. Shadowing a doctor is basically watching the doctor as he or she works within their work field. Viewing a doctor in their workspace is very eventful. One might see the specialty they desire within the medical field as well. Shadowing a doctor allows students to see how the hospital works around the clock, as well as how doctors proceed to do their actions. Other clinical experiences could be volunteering at an animal shelter. Veterinarians are key assets in today’s society, with pets being everywhere. Helping at an animal shelter as well as an animal hospital allows students to witness how medical attention is acquainted for animals. Being with so many animals as well creates patience and care for a person. Seeing animals being healed and their owners filled with joy displays to the students that medicine is all about bringing happiness to one’s life. Another clinical experience would be at a retirement home. People of old age are much harder to deal with then normally thought to be. Elderly people must usually be spoon fed 3 times a day. As well as nurses
Science and medicine has always fascinated me and has been interesting to be since my education started as a child. All my cousins used to play video games, playing house, playing cards, but instead I always forced everyone on pretending my patients and me treating them and caring for them as a doctor. I also wanted my family members to act if they were sick and they needed help. As time passed, I no longer had to play as it was the reality now and they really now needed help. I have witnessed my family members, my grandmother who passed away due to heart attack at an early age, my other grandmother who currently is sick, my grandfather who passed away also due to heart attack.
I have always had a high admiration for the impact that physicians have on families. At an early age, my younger sister had major heart surgery. Being four, I was too young to fully grasp what this meant for my family, but I quickly learned the grief my parents endured thinking their only daughter would not live past two. Dr. Jane Doe saved my sister, giving me a friend for life. I have set my goal to be like countless doctors who save lives daily and improve the quality
The person who first sparked my interest in pursuing a career in medicine was my Mom. She used to tell me a story and say “you are one of my many miracles sweetie.” After being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and undergoing multiple rounds of chemo and radiation, the doctor told my Mom she would
1. Shadowing at Eastside Internal Medicine: I believe that shadowing is one of the best activities that a student applying to medical school can engage in. Shadowing gives you a glimpse into the practice of medicine and a physician’s life. It is very important to show medical schools that you have immersed yourself in clinical settings and are serious about becoming a doctor.
Growing up I seen my mom, aunts, uncles and grandfather struggle with the death of my grandmother. Everyday there was a new struggle whether it was getting up to go to work or eat. My grandmother died of breast cancer at the age of fifty two, it devastated my family. The question asked “Is why do I want to go into the medical field?” I want to go into the medical field because I want to be able to make a difference in this world. I want to do research to cure chronic diseases, I want to be able to tell a family that everything will be alright, and I want to be able to save a family the devastation that my family felt.
The first time I realized I wanted to specialize in medicine was when my father took me to the fire station when I was around the age of fourteen. He began to show me images of different cases and trauma scenes they had participated in. Since then, I have constantly asked my dad questions about different calls and scenarios about patients he has rescued. By having a father in the medical field and continuing to take science and medical courses throughout high school, I began to learn more about medicine throughout the years. Deciding to partake in these courses further advanced my understanding in medicine. These courses helped it become clear to me that the medical field is something I continuously
I’ve always had an interest in becoming a Doctor. Even as a young child. Unfortunately, I lost my grandpa January 23, 2016 to a Lung Disease. He and I had a great relationship. He inspired me to be the best that I can be. Through his battle with Lung disease, I saw how the Doctors cared for him in a special way. My father suffered from a stroke that nearly changed his life. Watching him progress and get treated from amazing Doctors opened my eyes. That’s when I realized becoming a Doctor would allow me to care for people the same way my loved ones were cared
One story that is close to my heart is that of my grandfather. He was one of the best men I ever knew; however, he grew up poor and provided his family with food only from his garden and farm. In his late 70s, he died from a heart attack. His heart condition was only worsened by not seeking medical attention. Since he was a poor farmer that lived hours away from a heart specialist, the care he needed could not be attained. This event led me to become even more intrigued with medicine. At this time, I became very close with the director of the emergency room and shadowed him every chance I can get. Throughout my college years, I still love to spend a twelve hour shift with him in the emergency room. With this being said, my motivation to pursue a profession in medicine skyrocketed.
As of now, I work towards my immediate plans by taking classes that academically challenge me than ever before. The subject of science demands a strength within an individual that plays inside and outside of the classroom. For instance, critical reading and note taking are vital, but active listening, time management, and persistence are necessary skills applicable to everyday life. My major will help strengthen my shortcomings and it is a task that I must. Nevertheless, I hope to achieve my aspirations in the medical field with my devotion towards
During my four years at Brooklyn Technical High School, I was part of the Gateway to Medicine program. I was introduced to courses such as anatomy & physiology, organic chemistry, and biology. These extremely challenging classes piqued my interest to explore a future career in health care. The Gateway to Medicine program was multi-faceted, I went from dissecting cats to learning about spontaneous de-combustion. My guidance counselor also helped prepare me to choose a career in the medical profession.
It is no secret that in order to be competitive for medical school, you must be a well-rounded student, have a superior GPA, and achieve a competitive MCAT score. I feel that a well-rounded student is composed of an individual who has the chance to experience an exchange of cultures within a community unfamiliar to one's own. The opportunity provided to me by the medical school not only allows me to aid the underserved populations via the promotion of health care, but the chance to exchange
I’m most looking forward to medical school providing me with the reassurance that medicine is my passion and my outlet for helping others. There are many fields where I can make a difference and change lives, but none of them resonate with me the way medicine does, and I’m hopeful that medical school will only reaffirm my decision to work in this admirable field. My father is someone who influenced my decision to apply to medical school, and not because I feel like I need to make him proud, but because he showed me all of the wonderful things doctors could do. From a very young age, my father was always prepping me to be a lawyer, and for most of my life I thought this was my calling. I focused in on all of the good things lawyers could do to really help people and make a difference in their lives.
I’ve always had an interest in studying medicine as is gives a diverse opportunity for careers in the future. I’m considering working with medicine as it allows me to work and interact with other people as this is something I enjoy as this is an aspect and value I go by is helping people to achieve a greater/healthier population. I have a great deal of patience and an understanding towards vulnerable social groups, as empathy is a good quality to have to provide patient satisfaction as this comes naturally to me. The joy of helping people directly is another influence. I have excellent teamwork skills this is another skill needed for the medical field as you will need to be able to work with other doctors and nurses on a daily basis.
Seeing all of the things going on in the hospital influenced me to really pursue this profession. What also influenced me was seeing how my pediatrician cared for other kids and was always taking good care of not only myself, but others as well.
Throughout my life, I have worked towards one goal which is to become a doctor. Medicine offers the opportunity for me to integrate different scopes of science while trying to improve human life. Medicine has intrigued me throughout all my life because it??s a never ending
