1. Why do you want to serve as a peer leader?
I would like to serve as a peer leader because I truly understand the struggle of being a new student. The perspective I have gained while developing from being someone with no Jewish day school background to feeling like every other member of the community is something I find very special. The unique development that I experienced is something I owe to the welcoming and sincere peer leaders that helped guide me during the nerve-wracking transition phase. As a result of my experience, I want to give incoming 9th-grade students the same open arms that I received early on. Furthermore, Schechter Westchester has drastically changed my perspective on the world and taught me values that have helped

I was a freshman who knew absolutely no one and only recognized faces from the freshman orientation the year before. Still, I was not confident enough to talk to anybody so I ended up sitting and tying my cleats alone on a corner of the hill above the soccer field. But, once everyone started jogging, people started coming up to me, the new kid, and introducing themselves. By the end of the third day, I was placed on the Varsity team as the only freshman but I had already felt like I found a home. The welcoming seniors, juniors, and sophomores welcomed me into their group of brothers that pushed every muscle to the limit together. Schechter Soccer helped me feel like I was a part of the community because on the field, I was like every other player, working hard to elevate one another's playing. Even thought I was a freshman, I had found friends who did not care about my previous education, age, or race. All they cared about was that I had the same commitment as them and was willing to work hard for the greater good. As a result of Schechter Soccer, I have found my place in the community and work every year to make the new kids on the team feel like it is the place where they are always
I believe that I would make a great Peer Support leader because I believe I am approachable, kind and willing to help anyone in need. I believe that I have the right combination of skills and experience to help not only the Year 7’s but the rest of the school community.
Throughout my school years, I have always tried to be a positive role model for younger students as well as my peers. This year I decided that the best way to serve my school was to participate in our school’s Student Leadership Council. It has proven to be a fantastic decision for me. I succeeded in getting the most votes out of all of the candidates and have had a great experience taking a leadership role in my school. I feel like I have become a much better leader and role model because of Student Leadership Council. I have been really fortunate to be exposed to the Jeter’s Leaders program, since they come to our school to mentor us as SLC members. It has been an incredible experience, and I would really love to continue with it. As an eighth grader at Saint Augustine, we are required to mentor our younger students. I
Throughout Middle School and High School, I have won multiple Academic Honors and was able to partake in a Leadership Group/Camp. In Middle School, I was Honored as the best student in Reading, won many A-Honor Rolls, a few A/B-Honor rolls, and multiple Perfect Attendance Awards. In 8th grade, I was chosen along with many other students to help mentor the 6th graders moving up to the middle school and from there on I became part of a group called “Michigan Middle Leadership Initiative (MMLI)”, where only 10 students were selected to join. Currently, I have maintained a GPA of 3.89 or higher and I’m taking an Advanced Placement course for Environmental Science. Overall, I have a good attendance record and have never been tardy for class before. At the most, I’ll miss about 2 days of school in a trimester if I become ill.
I am interested in being a peer leader because I want to be able to help ninth graders see that high school is not an intimidating place. Most ninth graders are intimidated by high school because it a new environment- their future experiences there are uncertain. By sharing with them the reality of how high school works and giving them a more accurate representation of their experiences and relationships with teachers, I hope to lessen their fear of high
Is a leader as defined in the Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary, merely one who leads - synonymous with a boss? Or something more? I believe that a leader is much more than that and can be defined in any number of ways. In attempting to define a leader personally, I will use both myself and others as examples.
According to Hans Urs von Balthasar “a vocation is something lived, something enacted and a concrete life story” (Contino, 2004, p. 85). My vocational life story has developed over the past forty years with my first job at twelve babysitting six children to where I stand today teaching home economics at Chowchilla high school. “I build my own life story through the decisions of projects I undertake” and the choices I have made regarding my career path (Contino, 2004, p. 85). Someone looking from the outside at my wandering path might believe of my career changes seem a bit radical. Moving bicoastal, leaving a stable career of twenty five plus years to go back to college, take a pay cut and joining the unstable labor market of Home
I really want the team to be balanced throughout the season. I know for a fact that there will be a point during swim training where we are exhausted and we go crazy on each other. I want to have time during the season where the swim team can do an activity that does not involve swimming but at the same time keep our endurance up. I remember during training trip, we were overwhelmed by the amount of swim training that is occurring so the seniors and the coaches decided to take the team rope climbing and I think that helped us destressed but at the same time kept our endurance up during the trip.
During the last six weeks, I have learned a lot about the true meaning of a good leader. The discussions have helped me identify what my strengths are and what are the areas that I need to improve on. Although, I have been in management roles, I would not identify myself yet as a leader. I am a very result driven individual which is strength of mine, but that can also lead me to be desensitized to other’s emotions or challenges they might be facing. Throughout the course, I have also come to realize that I have limited self-awareness. On the contrary, one of my strengths is my social awareness. I have the ability to go into social or networking events and pick up on emotions, or facial expressing to understand the overall mood of that environment. To be socially aware is particularly beneficial because, I can find common ground with anyone I meet to initiate conversation. Therefore, when I see that person again, I can make those personal connections. Another one of my strengths is the ability to look at a current process and streamline it to a leaner, more effective and efficient way. During the last several years I have been hired to be the visionary of new divisions and to implement processes that would support the company’s vision and mission while still driving results. My values are what contribute to the success I have been able to achieve over the years, however. My resilience and work ethic towards my job shows through in the
As a lead responsible for processing millions of dollars of orders and managing multiple complex databases, I am an excellent candidate to work in the fast-paced environment of Peer Leadership at Cascades Job Corps College and Career Academy. I am administrative professional with years of experience working in higher education and with my bachelor's degree in English from Gonzaga University, I am highly qualified for the Peer Leadership Coordinator position. My experience with international and non-traditional education has provided me with tools to support a diverse professional and academic environment. I have a great deal of experience working in diverse academic spaces, and I have a personal commitment to facilitating inclusive academic environments for all students.
First, about my past leadership skills were understanding and gaining knowledge from people. When I was a child, I would always look up to my father and mother as role models to help lead a family together. Both of my parents gave me positive reinforcement in school and out of school so I can be successful in life. I have also taken an interest in
While I attended Wichita State University for my bachelors of Social Work, I was afforded the opportunity to participate in a leadership program two consecutive years. We learned tips on strategies to become more effective leaders. Whenever I participate in activities that require me to take a leadership or supervisory role, I tend to think of what I learned in the program. The conflict that I identified as a supervisor in this activity was mainly that we had a student with erratic behavior, with firearms at home, and a mother who not only, saw nothing wrong with it, but wanted him removed from public school and is largely uncooperative with the school regarding his psych eval.
While playing soccer with Brams United, a soccer program just for girls gave me the chance to play competitive outdoor soccer and collaborate with peers from other schools. While being a part of the team it made me connect with fellow
I am interested in becoming a Peer Leader for UMary because I truly believe that these individuals help underclassmen feel more comfortable and at ease when starting school. I have done previous peer mentoring with seniors who are trying to pick a school or getting ready to start college back home in Colorado, so this is a position I really love doing! Starting school as a freshman, you really do look to the upperclassman around you in order to learn how things go and I believe it is crucial that freshman have good influences to look up to. Having a freshman sister attending UMary this year, I have assumed almost a mentor role or that older sister role for not only her, but also her friends. When people feel comfortable with you, they are more
I am seeking admission to Concordia University-Chicago’s Educational Leadership Doctoral program. Currently I am an Instructional Leader with the Rockford Public School District. I would like to pursue a Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership to further my knowledge of the required leadership traits, essential skills and educational systems, practices and laws so that I may ultimately become a contributing member of a school district’s administrative cabinet.
The school required a test for admission, so the competition was getting fierce. The teachers focused a lot on our academics and tried to squeeze as much time as they can from us to study. As the result, we were not allowed to play soccer during our free time because it hinders us from studying. Maybe it is human tendency to break laws, but the gang of us didn’t want to conform to that rule so sneaking a soccer ball to school and keep it away from the teachers became an everyday challenge. It was amazing the kind of ideas we came up with for this task. Soccer added spices into my otherwise boring school life, and it served as a channel between me and my fellow classmates. Through soccer we found a common ground, that we were able to know each other more and support each other no matter what happens. It gave us a sense of unity, and it was very important to me. Even now I cherish the pact I had with them back then - the support that helped me to stay on the right track during my rebel teenage years.
