Getting a college education was never a thing I saw myself doing as a child. College wasn't a coveted thing in my household, I was always told that I needed to get a job and work for the rest of my life and that if I didn't do well in school, then I wouldn't get into any college. I had never been the best student, so I assumed that I would never get to go to college. I only recently started wanting to get a college education because I really want to work in the United Nations. Even after graduating high school with acceptance to a university overseas I thought I should take a year off to think about if I really wanted to continue my education or not. I feel like getting a college education will give me more knowledge and open more opportunities
Everyone has something that drives them to succeed every day. Some people feel a need to compete with others around them while others feel they need to make their families proud. For me there are two major factors that encourages me to try my best. One is to show my parents that everything they have done for me has not been a waste and the other is my curiosity.
Pursuing college has always been one of my biggest goals to achieve in life. After high school, I will higher my education by attending college. My ultimate goal will be to one day become a veterinarian. The love and compassion I have for animals plays a big role in choosing this course of study. Growing up on a ranch, I am exposed to animals such as horses, cows, dogs, chickens, and rabbits. Tending to the animals and keeping them in good health gives me the experience I need to see if the veterinarian study is fitting for myself. Furthermore, I plan to attend BYU-Idaho which offers a pre vet course that gives students who are seeking to become veterinarians the opportunity to intern at a vet
After reading the first few pages of the textbook, it was difficult to select only one topic that caught my attention. In order to save myself from sounding redundant throughout the paper I’ll go ahead and select two topics that stood out from the rest, at least in my opinion.
I have always been a fun and happy person. I loved to dance, go shopping, hang out with friends, watch movies with my family and go on vacations. Many people go through adversity that change them in significant ways and I was one of them. My way of getting through my issues was going to activities such as dance, cheerleading, and wrestling and it seemed to be working until one day at wrestling practice where I hurt my foot and had to go to the nurse. At the nurses office I had to take a survey that asked if I had ever been sexually assaulted, I answered truthfully and circled “yes.” I figured they would ask me about it however I didn’t expect them to call my mom and social services. I cried
When going into the 5th grade, I would drive by kipp every single day. Every time I would drive by, I would constantly tell my mom that I wanted to attend kipp my 5th grade year. When I got accepted into kipp, I was so excited. At the age of 10, I was being introduced to college. My very first homeroom was Brown University. Kipp pushed students to want to attend college to better their futures. I stayed in kipp from 5th-12th grade. Those years in kipp, we went on plenty of college tours so that the students could get a feeling of how college is. In high school when preparing for college, kipp offered so much help when it came down to ACT prep and also preparing for college interviews. Kipp offers plenty of support, they want to see their students shine. For instance, in my 12th
I am applying for college admission, educational opportunity programs, and special opportunities following high school graduation. I would appreciate your recommendation to include in my applications.
I have seen others go back to college with two or more kids and make good grades. They were making something of themselves. I want to make something of my life. I do not want to have to worry with losing my job and finding another one without a degree. It is hard to find jobs without an education. I want to show my two young girls that it is important to get a higher education. I want them to know that going and getting a degree is very important in the world we live in this day and time. I want to show that it is possible to better yourself even with a family. My youngest has Down syndrome, and I feel it is important to show her that with obstacles you can still further your education. I know that I do not have the same obstacles she has, but I want to be an influence on her. I want to show that I had a few obstacles including two kids, a job, and a husband that
My decision to return to school has proven to be a very good choice. I have been successful in banking for 21 years; however, I am in the highest position I can obtain without having a college degree. The goals I have for myself and my future exceed where I am right now in my professional career. By obtaining my degree and utilizing the skills I gain from my higher education journey, I plan to advance my career. I am currently manager of the loan department at a credit union, but I would like my career to develop into branch management roles. Additionally, my daughter is beginning college in the fall and I believe I have set a good example for her, as well as demonstrated how difficult going to college
Never be afraid to pursue what you love I’ve heard this throughout life from my parents. My first job was being a Library page at the Bellwood Public Library sparked my interest and passion for educating others. In that job I worked with Adult literacy program, assisted with planning for the Movies in the Park series, Youth reading program, and assisting with educational services. Once in college I realized the resources available to me and how I could not only pursue what I love, but provide tools that I can share that with community. The post-secondary education taught me that one does not always know all of what they will do in life and that their interests, passions and choices can change because as human we grow, change, and adapt.
Going into college, I expect many challenges. The biggest challenge I expect is all of the environmental changes. For eight years now, I’ve been attending Julia R. Masterman School. For eight years, I’ve seen the same people, at the same place, every single day. Every day, I’ve woken up to the same daily routine. I wake up, go to school, come home, eat, sleep, and then repeat. Usually, there’s someone to wake me or feed me, but in college, there won’t be. Ultimately, I’ll be responsible for myself and everything single thing that involves me.
Anytime I feel like taking a break or getting wrapped up in a job or two, I always have to check myself on why I want to get my degree. For me, it's to add options to my life and my family's life. If my husband gets injured in an accident or passes away and I have kids to finish raising, I can't afford to go back to school when I should be making money. I don't feel comfortable putting all of my eggs into one basket meaning that we only have the option of my husband to make a high income and have insurance. My motivation is that I can offer another option.
Being back in school has me very excited. When I sat down with my boss to let him know about my decision to return to school he was also very excited. I have been apart of a management training program at my work for the past two years the program has opened doors for me to advance in my career with my company. I am in a position now that without completing my degree, I will not be able to continue to progress the way that I want to, so my boss was very supportive of my decision to pursue this journey with Bethel. My family especially my wife are backing me one hundred percent. My wife has been pushing me for a few years now to start back to school and finish out my degree because, she knows I am very goal oriented and that I want to keep climbing the corporate ladder. I have found in the last couple of weeks of class that it is easier to wait to do my class work after my wife and I get the kids in bed, that way I still get to spend quality time with my family after the work day, and can focus totally on school when the house is quiet. As far as friends go they too are supporting me. I have a couple of close friends that have obtained there degree with Bethel online and they have given me nothing but positive feedback.
Brianda Coleman Professor Dubbe ENF 15 September 2016 I know that college will be challenging for me because of transportation, time, and finances.I'm an older student and a single mother with an eight year old daughter and a hectic life. First of all transportation is a problem because I do not have my own car, nor do I have licensed yet.Counting on acquaintance for rides is difficult and the bus takes forever, never on time, and breaks down often. In addition, I seem to never have enough time to do what is needed of me.I wake up get my daughter ready for school, then I take a nap because it's so early. Then off to school I go.When my daughter returns, she need help with homework ,and at that time I give her a snack. Soon after I go to work where I stay until 8:00pm.
The type of learning environment that I am seeking incorporates fundamental changes taking place in the world and equips students to be not only survivors, but conquerors of the world who affect change. Consequently, to conquer my world, College can provide me with the mindset and tools needed to reach my goal.
For many, after graduating high school the next big step is college. I never asked myself why or if I even wanted to. Yet, since I was not yet ready to join the work force, and didn’t want to disappoint my parents, I simply followed the path that I was supposed to take. For a while I had no direction, but through the loss of my high school English teacher and my dream of making my family proud, I discovered that college was the place I wanted and needed to be.
