Introduction Ethics is a comprehension of the way of contentions emerging from good goals and how best we may manage those (Noble, 2007). Morals does not choose what is ethically right or wrong; rather it considers how we ought to act better in the light of our obligations and commitments as moral agents (Noble, 2007). We are all molded by our own encounters, recollections, feelings, and learning influencing our observations, thinking and judgment of individuals and circumstances. These elements contribute to a person’s worldview, professional philosophy, and moral compass- the ability to judge wrong and right and act accordingly. The purpose of this paper is to describe this author’s professional moral compass, which is coordinated by different inspirations, interests, and values. My Professional Moral Compass Nursing had never been in my passion when I was younger because the image of a nurse in a white uniform holding a tray full of loaded syringes, frightened me. To me the nurses were ruthless individuals who made the children cry with injections. However a nice, gentle, and sympathetic nurse who took care of me when I was hospitalized with a foot fracture, changed my opinions about the nurses. I realized that nursing is a profession which provides care for the ailing and needy people. My qualities that are with me right up until today were instilled by my Indian origin and Christian faith. These qualities add to my perspective and philosophy of nursing. My passion for
Van Gogh once said “your profession is what you’re put here on earth to do, with such passion and such intensity that it becomes spiritual in calling”. That is what nursing is to me. A passion that started early in life. During my senior year in high school, I completed the nursing assistant course over a holiday break in order to begin working as a certified nursing assistant at a local hospital and nursing home. I continued serving others, in this capacity, while I pursued higher education earning my Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Clarkson College. After graduation, I began my career as a Registered Nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital. Over the last nine years at Sacred Heart, my experience grew as a staff nurse on a Cardiology Step-down Unit,
“Definition of a nurse: To go above and beyond the call of duty. The first to work and the last to leave. The heart and soul of caring. A unique soul who will pass through your life for a minute and impact it for an eternity. An empowered individual whom you may meet only for a 12-hour period, but who will put you and yours above theirs”-Anonymous. For the past year and a half, I have volunteered at Blaire E. Batson Children’s Hospital. It has been an amazing experience! My passion for the medical field and career of nursing has been magnified. I know without a doubt that nursing is what I want to do for the rest of my life. I long for the opportunity to care for my future patients and their families. I want to touch other people’s lives just as I have witnessed nurses do throughout my time volunteering. God has given me a passion for nursing. With my passion and compassion for others, I know I will be successful if admitted into the BSN program.
Back in my home country, where i grew up, times were always tough. Every day I would notice poverty, tragedies, disappointment from every angle i turned. Despite how much my famliy was already lacking my mother has always nudged the philosophy that caring is sharing and I have coantinued to lived by it till this day. Upon entering America I didn't expect my love for nursing to happen especially a foreigner Nigeria . Although i entered this career spontaneously, there are numerous reasons why i fell in love with nursing and its positive influnece in my personal life.
I knew I could be a nurse when I watched blood ooze from my brother’s face. His eyes dripping tears, and body shaking from being scared, he did not know what to do. I however, did not flinch once when I wiped the blood off his small face and hands. He was just two and I remember thinking how I had to fix him. I had to make sure his nose, his forehead, and the of side of his face was okay. I did not think twice about touching blood, or how his whole nose was black and blue. In that moment I was selfless. I chose nursing because I am capable of putting others before me. I am selfless enough to understand what it means to be a nurse, and have to be a mother, a daughter, and a whole family in a patient’s time of need. I am independent, and strong enough to deal with challenges and make the right decisions. In my soul I know I am meant to help people and fix their hurting and sadness. I chose being a nurse, because I am
Nursing is not only a career, but a way to give back to the community by enhancing and maintaining the health of others individuals. Throughout my life I have witnessed kindness and selfness among many nurses that have impacted and helped shape my future career choices and life immensely. The nursing field is full of endless amounts of opportunities that I am excited to experience. I personally believe that nursing is right for me, because I possess the values and characteristics of compassion, empathy and the ability to listen and communicate with others which are similar to those of the labor and delivery nurse in the movie, The American Nurse. My decision to become a nurse has come from several different factors, which include working around
Caring for others has always been a passion of mine, and becoming a nurse has always been my dream. While my dream has turned reality, I can say that nursing has blessed me with the opportunity to not only be a servant to those in my community, but it has also allowed me to be of some comfort to patients and their loved ones during their darkest and most vulnerable moments. Nursing offers a variety of opportunities, where the only restrictions are the ones we set for ourselves. As for myself, all things are possible, for if I want it, I strongly believe it’s already mine. The depths that I will go to reach the latitude of success that I so desire is boundless.
Nursing is a caring and compassionate profession. We incorporate our critical thinking skills with our desire to help others. I believe my mission in life is to be a servant for God and I turn to help others fulfill their purpose. To live in the spirit of a nurse one must be conscious of what nursing entails. Nurses are compassionate, caring, motivating, teachers, sisters, brothers, and often at times the only family a patient has. The spirit of nursing is in me. The spirit is within me because I care about the ultimate meaning of things. Being in tune with my inner self and spirit, allowed me to yield compassion for others. My inner nurse spirit encompasses my values, beliefs and virtues of a nurse. I believe that the virtue that I possess the most is compassion. Compassion and the spirit of a nurse goes hand and hand. One cannot have spirit of a nurse without being compassionate. To have compassion for another being, brighten up their day. Showing compassion shows that you are caring and that you are capable of loving another. But, feeling the spirit of the nurse is completely life changing. The spirit of a nurse cannot be taught or learned, it is felt.
revolving around the topic. So many aspects that I have struggled to identify one to focus this essay on. I considered writing about the history of nursing and all of the empowerment and bravery that have occurred in order to bring nursing to the astonishing level it has reached and continues to grow from; however, it is the personal side of nursing that has affirmed me that this is what I want to spend the rest of my life doing. This is more than just a science or technology, this is human lives that are being ameliorated everyday by nurses. My specific experiences have steered me to an awakening and clarification on my purpose in life, which is to help others.
In this section I talk about qualification that I feel I have to put into place in my future job. The first bullets are hard working, meticulous, and organized because I am very hard working as you see on my personal profile I have been very involved and I always have a hard time saying no to people when they ask me for help, when someone asks me to help with an event or task, I take it to heart and try my best to do the task the way I feel like the supervisor wants it. The organizing skill, I always have different calendars around me, I usually have one in my backpack, one in my room and one in my homework room and on my computer with due dates of upcoming assignment. I always try to get my assignments done ahead of time because I dislike having to stress out when the due dates are close, and I try to put my best effort into my school work and I cannot do that if I leave it to the last minute. Second bullet is able to provide excellent client service referring to always make sure the client is being treated right and that I am following the code of ethics. This bullet will be easy to follow because I try to make sure the client feels comfortable but also keeping your boundaries up. An example is that one time at my placement at Anson Place, I was working with a client who was really scared and wasn’t sure where they were. She thought I was her granddaughter I had to tell her
In today’s business world, the issue of personal morals and ethics has been a much researched and debated topic. This is particularly true in light of the many financial scandals of the past few years. Therefore, one must decide, when faced with a moral decision, if she will remain true to her engrained morals or waver to reap special benefits in the long run. Presented is a discussion focused on maintaining personal ethics and morals when faced with a career decisions which might differ from those established principles.
As the years have gone by, and I have grown into my adulthood, my values have not changed. I see nursing as a profession that is not only committed to the lives of others but also continues to strengthen the nurse at his or her core. Caring for another human being is such a rewarding experience. When nurses offer their time and care for their community, their success will carry on with them throughout their entire career and will shape them into a better person. These qualities are the very reasons why I want to pursue a profession in nursing. Along with advocating
The focus of “Chapter 1” consisted of helping practitioners learn professional ethics which was pointed out on the first page of the chapter. This chapter explained the difference between (a) law and ethics, (b) aspirational ethics and mandatory ethics, (c) values, ethics, and morality, and (d) principle ethics and virtue ethics. Ethical judgment, in our everyday lives, is acquired via a complex combination of cultural background, particular workplace, past experiences and so on. The purpose of this essay is to examine two competing ethical concepts and approaches I used to evaluate my own moral development. In addition, this essay also conducted to analyze how my ethical being assist me to deal with moral dilemmas in two different work context: a commercial website in 2004 and a local government website in 2008.
Nursing is a profession in which the true value of its work often gets lost in the limelight of the successes of Doctors who share the same work environment. I never realized the true scope of a nurse’s practice until I dealt with the loss of someone very true to my heart, my Mom. During this time we spent several days in an intensive care unit, an environment that nurses excel in, where I learned that nurses do more than check vitals and give medication. From being there to answer questions for my family to truly caring for my mom as an entire person worth more than her body parts I saw a profession that I could not only fall in love with, but also find success in. From this experience my passion to pursue a bachelor degree in Nursing Science was ignited, and the framework of the philosophy of my care began to be assembled.
My passion for nursing start when I was seven years old. One of my mother’s friend, Nanci, was a nurse. We would go visiting her at her home during weekends and holidays. One day while playing in school, I bruised my his knee. When my mother came to pick me up from school, she insisted that the wound had to be dressed. So on our way
