In the course of this spring semester, I have learned so many things that have been beneficial to me when comprehending critical writing as well as writing it. Developing critical thinking skills was one of the most things I personally enjoyed learning from this class such as how to generate my own writing, how to expand yourself and others in your writing with a more complex vocabulary. Another writing strategy that I learned this semester was how to write a persuasive essay in APA formatting. Beliefs, attitudes and values are three little words that have and make a massive impact on who we are as individuals, who we are as people, and even how the world is viewed by ourselves and others. After learning studying the technics from Unit 2 on improving critical thinking skills, I feel that I have devised a plan to help me through this process. The steps in the lesson that include using wasted time and asking specific questions, planning to handle one problem per day, and internalize intellectual standards and having clarity and understanding about devising a game plan has helped me put the changes into action. Keeping a journal and trying to practice intellectual strategies are all part of my plan to improve my thinking.

As a Physical Therapist (PT), I will play a variety of roles while working with patients and their families. A few of these roles will include; health care provider, teacher and motivator. The skills I must possess in order to be successful at these roles consist of; the ability to use and develop critical thinking, formation of patient objectives, comprehension of learning processes, the proper use of constructivism and an understanding of how the field of Physical Therapy has changed. With this paper, I will demonstrate my knowledge of these topics while answering the following questions: What is critical thinking and how can it be used in Physical Therapy? What is my current level of critical thinking and how can it be improved? What are the objectives of a course you would like to teach? What domain of Bloom’s taxonomy is used with these objectives? What is constructivism? Is it a valid theory? Who is Elizabeth Kenny? What information about the progression of the field do you feel would be important to her?

As an International student, writing course is and has always been one of the most challenging courses. However, this class helped me to improve my writing skills. The work in this portfolio demonstrates that I have used methods of analysis and evaluation of sources and argumrnts to develop critical thinking skills. Though I have made some progress in appropriate documentation and essay oragnization areas, I have work to do to come to a full understanding of grammar, mechanics and sufficient content use in my essays .

My teachers didn’t promote critical thinking, maybe it was because they don’t really care they just want their cheek, and to move on with their lives. Don’t get me wrong I had some teachers that did teach with critical thinking in mind, and they were amazing. The school didn’t give them a big budget because we are a small roughly middle class school district so they had to pay out of pocket, or try to compete with a bigger better school for a grant. Common core is also an issue that effects how you can teach, and you can tech in your classroom. However, according to dictionary.com, critical thinking means “disciplined thinking that is clear, rational, open-minded, and informed by evidence.” I believe that critical thinking will help prepare me to avoid accepting misinformation, succumbing to deception and falling for intentional misdirection when I look at information intercepted with a degree of skepticism. One area that I could assert additional attention to is critical thinking. The process of critical thinking is something that applies to all facets of life. In the workplace, applying additional skills towards job performance is critical to becoming successful. “Metacognition means thinking about thinking and can be applied in two general ways. It can mean thinking about the way that you learn best.” (Capella University, 2017) The other meaning of metacognition is the process of monitoring progress in thinking and learning in order to improve that way that you think. Monitoring how you learn and which strategies work the best for you, makes you the manager of your own learning. By doing this, it will help you be more successful whether it is with your school work, work at your job, and/or anything else that requires thinking.

Given the especially large number of students you see each semester, I don't expect any recollection of my presence in your COMM150 class-- I certainly wasn't an exemplary enough student to have left any lasting memories (which is both good and bad). But I wanted to share with you a small anecdote, because four years later I've realized that your class served as an important catalyst in the development of my critical thinking abilities.

Critical thinking skills are essential to the adult learner. Since this is a writing based program, adopting a creative mindset helps facilitate critical thinking skills. Attending an online program requires the student to research the weekly assignment individually. Without the typical classroom environment, each student must determine what the writing assignment requirements are and how to relay the information in an informative essay. Critical thinking skills and effective writing are essential to succeed in higher education (Varelas, A., Wolfe, K. S., & Lalongo, E., 2015).
