Areeba Mehdi – Personal Statement
Medicine is about the captivating combination of altruism, intellectual challenges and the fact that I can be the one to make a genuine difference in people’s lives. Once someone is my patient, his or her quality of life is something I will be able to change for the better.
Alongside my academic work, I have been fortunate enough to have done a long term work experience which I was fully committed to in Central Middlesex Hospital. This allowed me to speak to several doctors as well as observe them interacting with patients, witnessing their dedication and highly rewarding skills that go in to operations. This is significantly evident in the outcomes of successful procedures. I also observed the importance of a physiotherapist in the field who makes sure that patients are motivated and healing well.
Furthermore, I have additionally gained experience in a care home environment in order to gain a better holistic understanding of elderly care; and it taught me the importance of adequate medical care, delivered with empathy.
Moreover, I believe that these experiences have provided me the opportunity for the development of attitudes and behaviours fundamental to being a

Throughout the year, I have developed vital skills such as teamwork, communication, dedication and motivation through volunteering and other work I have completed. I am truly inspired by medicine and want to improve people’s lives. I believe that I possess the qualities required to become a suitable doctor with passion, dedication and enthusiasm. My work experiences have given me the confidence to allow me to view being a doctor as a permanent profession and I look forward to the intriguing challenges I will face in the upcoming years as a medical student and as a
I’ve learnt that being a doctor is about so much more than administering drugs. At its peak, being a doctor is about communication and compassion. I love working with people and I love science, and the more exposure I get to medicine the more confident I feel that despite its hurdles and sacrifices, there is no other career that would grant me as much fulfilment as
Through our discussions I have also gained a more realistic idea of maintaining work life balance in the field of medicine. TAll in all, this experience was very valuable to me because it taught me the patience required to be a compassionate doctor. This opportunityEven more, it instilled in me the humility and dedication it takes to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds, specifically through the practice of cultural
The medical field is a career path that brings about many options and opportunities of great value. The noble idea of being a doctor tends to cloud the diligent studying and precise training that is actually required for this career. I have wanted to become a doctor since a very young age, and now that the opportunity is here for the taking, I have fully researched what it takes to succeed in this profession and various specialties of the practice. The road to a medical degree is one filled with thousands of notes, years of schooling, and many stressful nights, but the reward is one incomparable to any other. Saving people’s lives on a day-to-day basis has been one of my dreams for as long as I can remember, so the rigorous curriculum
I envision the next ten years to be a time of intense personal growth. I will be building upon my strengths and improving my weaknesses. I hope to be fulfilling my goals and crossing things off of my bucket list. I hope to have the financial security to be able to help my mother retire, and help my younger brother to finish graduate school. I hope to be involved within my community, whether through volunteer work or a community-based organization. As for my career, I see myself working as a primary care physician. I am drawn to the long-term comprehensive care aspect of Internal Medicine and the opportunity to work with a diverse patient population in a variety of settings. This role aligns with my personal values in regards to health maintenance.
I am drawn to family medicine by this same appreciation for humanism that is evident to me among practitioners in this field. I am similarly motivated and excited by the intellectual challenges, scope, and meaningfulness offered by a career in family medicine. I strive to join a residency program that will provide rigorous clinical training among a diverse patient population while offering extensive resident responsibility for patient care. I believe that a family medicine residency program will inspire me to excel and arm me with the tools I need to achieve my future goals. Upon completion of residency, I aim to devote myself to serving the underserved while dedicating time to conducting research and participating in community and medical
My ambition in seeking acceptance to your program is to do my part to improve the quality of the health care system through increasing my own abilities in health care management. While there are many medically qualified individuals working in medical management, there is unfortunately often a serious deficit in quality management experience. In order to achieve my ambition, I plan to utilize my strong medical qualifications and improve upon my strong management experience.
I come from a small rural town nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. My hometown is split down the middle by a set of railroad tracks. On the north side, one can find pristine neighborhoods, newer schools, most doctors’ offices, and the only hospital in town. The south side of the town stands as a stark contrast. On the south side, you no longer find the wealthy neighborhoods but rather dilapidated and condemned homes and housing projects. One seems to find abandoned buildings on every corner, many inhabited by those that have lost their homes. Limited help is coming for those who need it, mostly through churches and volunteer programs targeting the underserved. Many doctors, dentists, and nurses are giving their time and resources to help
It is a fact that we have a longer life expectancy than ever before. This has been achieved through years of thorough research, technological development, and most importantly resilient individuals. Doctors are constantly faced with different enigmas with no right or wrong answer. What first attracted me toward medicine was the desire to help and support, in particular, disadvantaged people. Coming from a country with an underdeveloped health care system has made me realised the impact it has on people’s life.
Attending a First Aid course improved my confidence in emergency situations and competence to provide relevant care. I teach first aid to small groups in school as CPR training and awareness will increase chances of survival from heart attacks. My mother's illness has inspired me to complete two online courses on Cancer and Abdominal Anatomy which required efficient time management. As I have found, the ability to work as a team is essential for the role of a doctor. Effective teamwork was crucial in the Drill Team during my time as an Air Cadet and it was this which led to victory. I play Basketball socially to unwind and have been committed to Tennis, competing in several Tennis tournaments. Doctors must be diligent, resilient and empathetic, skills which I am beginning to develop. I have found that doctors must commit to lifelong learning and I believe I have begun to acquire the necessary academic skills to pursue such a demanding profession. I have learnt that the role of a doctor extends far beyond treating disease to giving patient
When I think of medicine I think of diversity. The medical field contains a multiplicity of individuals, culture, and exchange; exposure to the Guatemalan culture offers a plethora of experience that allows me to build on personal growth, educational enhancements, and the opportunity to make a difference. The availability of this program through the Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine is a blessing as well as a prayer answered for the prospect to experience the world beyond the borders of the United Stares.
I am interested in this program because it'll help me career wise and help me with personal growth. After I graduate high school I am planning on following the pre-med track as a major and this program would help me get a sense of what its going to be like as a pre-med student prior to me going to a college or universities, if I join their medical science track. In addition, although I want to study pre-medicine and science I haven't had much opportunities to study the different branches of sciences outside my school's curriculum, which is usual regents based and they only have 1 AP science class, AP environmental science which isn't the field I am interested in. Furthermore, I would like to join the program because they also focus on helping
During my time there I learnt a variety of social care subjects, the most relevant being human development and behaviour and social influences. Human development and behaviour, has strengthened my analytical skills by helping me to develop my own conclusions and arguments based upon studies and theories I have learnt. It has also improved my ability to break down situations and look at them piece by piece. When studying social influences I developed my understanding of the importance to remain objective in my work. It has also heightened my knowledge of different cultures and the pressures people face in
I’m interested in the medical field; cardiology and/or a General GP practitioner. A cardiologist is a doctor with special training in the act of finding, treating as well as preventing diseases associated with the heart and or blood vessels. A GP is a general practitioner who does not specialise in a particular area in medicine. General Practitioners provide routine health care and assessment of illnesses and injuries.
The year was 2012: The Affordable Care Act was still in its infancy and I had just moved to Germany, where I would spend two years as a full-time volunteer. Amongst many other responsibilities, I often found myself in hospitals – gaining my first exposure to socialized medicine. It was during this time my fascination with healthcare management and the contrasting methods of delivery was realized. My time spent working with Franklin County Medical Center has given me a deep appreciation for rural, critical access hospitals and the vital role they play in the overall health of a community.
Healthcare, the conservation and improvement of physical and mental health, is often thought to be the responsibility of the sole individual and the medical professionals handling their care. However, like the nervous system within our bodies in which hundreds of neurons work in unison to maintain proper function and response to a stimulus, the healthcare system shares the rudimentary characteristic of connectivity seen within this physiological network. Connectivity is essential for the success of healthcare, in which several components such as the CFO of a hospital, a physician, and a pharmaceutical distributor must interact and make decisions that affect the livelihood of others. Often, there is a disconnection between these interworking parts leaving the community and patients at a disadvantage. For this reason, The MBA with Healthcare management concentration is a
