Earning my Bachelors Degree in psychology is one of my greatest achievements thus far. Out on my own at the age of sixteen, moving from a small town to the city, I experienced many hardships, but more importantly, many accomplishments. Determined to graduate high school, I began taking classes at the community college of Rhode Island my senior year. After successfully earning my high school diploma, I continued taking classes toward my Associates Degree. Although it took me many years to complete, I earned my Assicotrs Degree from the Community College of Rhode Island while working at an independent pharmacy in my hometown. During my 8 years at the pharmacy, I met a wonderful man, we were married, have two beautiful children, and have purchased
My entire life I have always been on the search of a career that would fit my persona, fit who I truly am, and to become someone who will constantly have the ability to help people through their difficult problems that they face. Throughout my life I have been deemed the type of person that people felt comfortable coming to with their problems. Maybe people feel this way because they sense that I have a sympathetic ear? Well, all I can say is that human behavior has always seemed interesting to me and that is probably why I made the decision to go down the psychology career pathway.
In 2010, I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Human Services degree from University of Phoenix. I began the journey towards my Masters degree in Counseling in
With my ambition and perseverance, I overcame obstacles including severe migraines and self-doubt. I learned to focus on what I felt was best for myself and pushed through every hardship. Knowing that a large amount of my peers often do not think of a future after high school and endure obstacles of their own inspired me to take action and become a College Summit Peer Leader. Being a peer leader gives me the opportunity to take the experiences that I have learned so then I can encourage my fellow peers to face their obstacles head on and ultimately instill hope and guidance into their lives. I enjoy helping others with their life struggles which leads me to the decision that in the later future, I would love to study psychology. This will enable me to further understand other’s emotions and how to go by helping them through their

My name is Courtney Torok and I am currently a senior here at Kennesaw State University. I am graduating this December with a degree in psychology. I am originally from Michigan and moved down here to Georgia with my family just before starting at Kennesaw State University. I started off majoring in chemistry with the intent of applying to some kind of medical program, but eventually found that my passion was psychology. I have always wanted to work in the “helping” field. After graduating, I plan on applying to graduate school for school psychology programs where I will earn both my Master of Science in School Psychology and Specialist in School Psychology degrees. Ideally, I would love to be accepted into a graduate school in Florida, as
After graduating from Wright State University, with her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, her initial plan was to become a Therapist. But over the years, pursuing
My specific career ideas are still a little vague, but, I do know mental health is something that I am going to pursue in one way or another. Mental health has always intrigued me a little because I had an Uncle with schizophrenia, I never met him and my Mom’s family doesn’t really talk about him a whole lot, but I still think about him a lot. I got to see what happened with his family after, but I can’t see how they were before, and I will always wonder about how he might have influenced my life. My interest in mental health became more directed when I took my first psychology class, the introductory psychology class at Montgomery college in the fall of 2014. I really liked it, partially thanks to the teacher I had, but mostly because it gave me a better understanding of what mental health is. The next psychology class I took was on personalities and it confirmed that psychology and mental health are something I truly am passionate about.
However, like many of my peers in the undergraduate community, I had a declared major but a persisting uncertainty and indecision about my future and career. Nevertheless, I continued to see myself in a personal setting with clients, where I could share psychological insight to those willing to open up and partake in personal growth. Through years of information, coursework, wise words from professors, and much personal insight, I decided to pursue a career in counseling
At present I am enrolled at Appalachain State University to earn a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a concentration in the social sciences. I want to be a psychologist. I would love to learn all about the way people act, think and feel and at the same time try to help them. I have a very easygoing personality and I love to have fun and laugh. I ask a lot of questions, and I think I am very easy to get along with. Some career goals I have is to finish college, I would like to find a job I want to keep that I could make a career out of, and just take it one day at a time because I have desire to make the right decisions and live a pleasant life.
THE FIRE WITHIN For many years, I have had a desire to pursue a degree in psychology and counseling, and as a Christian I see the need for counselors with not only a worldview but also a biblical one. Ever since my first job as a Day Camp Aid with the Latrobe Parks and Recreation Board, I have been compelled to work with students; to be someone they could go to when they don’t think their parents would understand. The reason I haven’t pursued my desire until now can be summed up with two words; timing and distractions. Sitting here on my back porch, I am reminded of how God can take something so plain and turn it into something great. Throughout my life I have had many jobs but none as fulfilling as the part time youth director position I now
Before participating in my first advising appointment in college, I decided to major in Psychology. I wanted my education to help me understand mental health as well as social issues. At the same time, I wanted to learn about research methods and be engaged in the scientific method. I heavily invested time into the course material, seeking answers to some of life’s biggest questions. I studied topics ranging from human development to social and industrial psychology.
When I took an introductory honors psychology course during my sophomore year of high school, I realized that I discovered a career that I would enjoy, be passionate about, and would want to continue learning. Even before that class had ended, my great interest in the course material led me to decided that I would obtain a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. My fascination with the course, mental health, and drive to help others inspired me to choose a university that would provide me with the experiences necessary for this career. I chose the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) for the strength of its psychology program as I found it best suited my academic interests. The program offered specialized courses that pertained to my interests
At this point in my life I am eager to continue my education in the hopes of mastering my purpose of helping others. I realize that by way of consequence of difference, the intersectionality of many factors of an individual’s life can lead to negative experiences and this is an aspect of society I hope to change. Also, my dream of opening my own psychology office would not be possible without furthering my education. This degree will allow me to counsel at risk youth and make a difference in their lives. I know that continuing my education through this program will prepare me for the professional practice I will encounter daily and help to lay the foundation of my future as a helpful member of society.
