I have two years left before my anticipated graduation date. My parents and family are unable to offer me any financial support, as they devote all of their time and money to the three foster children that they are caring for, and also my little sister. I work a part-time job with Eckardt Electric, but my pay there goes to my car payments, gas to drive the 155 total miles from home to work to school each day, and also to any food or other bills that I have. The one scholarship that I have received is going to pay for half of this upcoming summer semester tuition and fees, and the rest of the fees I will have to save for and also accept a student loan, if possible. I am working off of a really tight budget to get by every day so that I can save
I was awarded the Freshman Trustee Scholarship; in high school I had a 3.71 unweighted GPA and I scored 27 on the ACT, which demonstrates excellent scholastic achievement. I am the eldest of five; my siblings are quadruplets and juniors in high school. Within two years, ⅘ of my parents' children will be in college, which is a ginormous, and unmeetable, expense for my parents. My parents have a 529 plan set up to help pay for some of my college expenses in which every semester they generously provide $2,500.00 to help pay for tuition costs. Although I'm unfortunately currently unemployed, and am currently job searching, working approximately 15-20 hours a week at my previous job provided me with enough money to save up for a decent car that
I intend to use this scholarship to help pay for my tuition and books at the Southern Arizona University of Phoenix- Online. I would like to be considered for this scholarship because I have no financial help from my family. This means that I have to be able to pay for college on my own because of the fact that my father is no longer in my life, and my mom has my other siblings to take care of. My father is no longer in my life because he now lives in Mexico with his other family. I don’t have financial help from him because he has a wife and six other children. My mother would like to be able to help me, but she has two other children she’s taking care of by herself, and she has to prepare for my sister's graduation next year as well as mine this year. I plan to get a job after I graduate to help pay for the expenses of college, but since I am going online the expenses of college are going to be a lot less than if I were to go on campus, this is the main reason I am planning to go online, and to take a lot of the stress of being totally alone off myself because I will only be twenty minutes away from my family instead of an hour or two.
I have been extremely fortunate to avoid many hardships. However I have faced a financially barrier, especially as I have set the goal to finance college without loans. My family is not poor, but we do not have enough money to put two women through university. I have taken the initiative to surpass this barrier by working and applying for scholarships. I started by attending community college first as it is less expensive. I quickly realized that the lower tuition was not enough and took a job at a grocery store deli. Most of my income has been placed into my savings. I have saved up a decent sum of money, but will still need help to pay for college. Now I am applying for as many scholarships as humanly possible. I have received scholarships
When first offered the opportunity to be an honors student, I was unsure what exactly what that would involve and how that would impact my college experience. I'm not sure why I ever worried in the first place, as being involved in the University Honors Program has been one of the most rewarding decisions that I have made here at the U. Firstly, I greatly enjoy my advisor, Kristin Farrell and what she has to offer. She is incredibly open-minded and it is so comforting knowing that she will be my advisor for all 4 years. I more than look forward to our meetings and come knowing that she will be able to understand my choice of classes and listen when I have concerns or ideas. For example, I have been toying with the idea of studying abroad since
My mom and dad make a combined yearly salary of less than $70,000. They also help provide for me, my brother, and my sister. They help pay for school, clubs, extracurricular activities, phone bills, insurance, and so much more for all three of us and plus themselves. I work at Foodland in Scottsboro making minimum wage and I try to pay for what I can, such as my tuition and books so far, gas, food, clothes, and other necessities. As of right now I am running out of spending money and my parents are trying to provide for all of us as best as they can, and we are not eligible for Pell Grant. Gaining this scholarship would be very beneficial in helping me gain my Associates Degree here at Northeast so i can achieve my goal to transfer to the University
I understand that my family and I are not living below the poverty line or fighting over bus fare, but this scholarship will still greatly benefit me. When my sister filed the FAFSA, she was not given an extraordinary amount of money. She had to take out loans to pay for her education. My family and I cannot afford to take out any more loans. In 2014, we lost our house due to foreclosure. For two years, every penny we earned went to our savings account to save up for a house. When I was fourteen years old, I had saved up five-thousand dollars for college. I decided to give the money to my parents in order to buy our house. I am a senior in high school, and I have not managed to recoup my money. Meanwhile, my parents are tied down to a thirty-year mortgage. In addition, my grandfather, who lives in Mexico, has been diagnosed with depression. My parents have been sending money over there in order to pay for his care and medicine. Trying to find the right treatment for him has made money a bit tight in my household.
Senior year is here and the question is, "how will I afford to pay for college?". At a young age, my father passed away and my mother abandoned me, since then I've lived with my grandmother, who has struggled but always found away to make sure I've had everything I've need throughout the years. I currently have a part-time job to help out the family, but that's not enough to pay for college too. I am currently taking a nurse aid class through my high school, getting this scholarship would help me further my education in nursing.
College is becoming more and more expensive as time goes on. This causes many students to heavily rely on the help of scholarships. I am one of those students. My parents are unable to help me pay for my college education. I have worked during the summer to help pay for some of the costs of my education and will find a job near my university to pay for as much as possible. In order to get out of college with as little debt as possible, I need to receive as many scholarships as I can. I have been a very active member in the community and in school activities. I have always given all of my effort for everything I do. I believe that over the years, I have made a worthy contribution to the community. I have always been a hard worker and I will
I am getting my degree because I want to inspire others to explore careers and professions that quite often underrepresent people of diverse backgrounds. Many social, business, and personal products used today are typically created with a euro-centric type mindset and can neglect to meet underlying needs or wants of different groups of people. Studying Computer Science will allow me to use my personal identities and experiences to create programs that will be innovative in attending to qualities and entities that are often lost in the bigger
Being the second of four children to attend college, my parents are not able to help each of us with the financial endeavors involved. To help fund my education, I worked hard in high school to earn scholarships, took on a job at the end of my senior year to pay for books and my bus pass, and continue to strive for excellence in college to maintain the requirements for different scholarships I have received. While I have been fortunate enough to receive scholarships, I have also had to work to pay for my textbooks, campus bus pass, online homework website fees, and laboratory and mandatory fees. I work an average of 25-30 hours a week at Jason’s Deli, while going to school full time. Earning this scholarship will help take some of that weight
Day after day I had always regretted not finishing school. Every day that went by Reminded me how much I needed to complete my education. I would remember applying to jobs and always seeing that dreaded sentence saying “must have High school diploma or equivalent’’. The memory of those days still feel as if it was just yesterday that I was without education. Growing up I never realized how much I would need education in my life. Education is needed to overall make a decent living in order to survive. All of the jobs that I was working at the time were either fast food or hard labor. In my early 20’s I soon figured that there were no short cuts to success. If I wanted to make decent money, I need a decent education. I then started researching how to get my General education diploma. Since I was too old to return to high school to finish that was my only option. I remember it was like yesterday walking onto the Community college property where the test was given to inquire about signing up to take it. Everything on campus looked so well put together in my eyes. I knew at that time that I wanted to be a future college student. I felt like I belonged there, but I was missing one thing a GED to qualify for enrollment. Being in the scenery of an actual college environment showed me just how much I was missing and made me more determined to follow up on my dreams of one-day graduating from college. As I neared the testing centers door my heart started pounding. I noticed that I
I new at the age of ten that I wanted to become a Physician Assistant. My mother is divorced and is a Pediatric Nurse. She told me to study hard and get good grades so I would be able to go to college, get accepted and possibly get a merit scholarship from the College. I took her advice and studied hard to get good grades I graduated from High School as a High Honors graduate with a weighted GPA of 4.24. I was accepted to Springfield College for their six-year program. They gave me a good merit scholarship but I will still have to pay $35,000 per year. I have applied to other scholarships in the hopes of getting some more financial help. I will have to take out some significant loans. I still consider myself fortunate as I am going to be able to go to college and pursue my dream career as a Physician
“Cheyanne, Ms.Choi wants to see you, can you go to her office please?” I quickly nodded my head as began to uplift myself from my chair. As I started to shove my class work into my bookbag, I saw how eyes from my classmates started to look my way. I quickly threw the rest of my papers into my book while quickly zippering up my book bag. I zoom towards the door as I look down on the floor to avoid any more contact with my teacher and peers. I quickly open the staircase door and walk down the stairs into the second floor to Ms.Choi’s office. I saw how Ms.Choi’s door was slightly open while she was finishing her conversation with someone on the phone. “Okay let me call you back, I have a student with me right now.” She quickly hung up the
I am currently an upcoming sophomore at the University of South Alabama and hope to continue to be one, with the aid of this scholarship. I am a low income student that works all year around whether it be work study, at a restaurant, or babysitting. I try to save up money in order to pay for my tuition and living expenses, but sometimes that does not suffice my financial need in order to survive on my own. My parents try to help with money as much as they can but they are currently supporting two other children along with me. I try to not put them in more of a financial predicament than they are already in, so I tend to only ask for money if I have absolutely run out of funds. My family has always struggled with money, especially once my father
I feel that the death penalty was and is a very effective form of punishment. The death penalty is the punishment of execution, administered to someone legally convicted of a capital crime. I also feel that the death penalty should be practiced in all fifty states and be the punishment for more crimes.Since 1976 there has been over fourteen hundred deaths caused by the death penalty. I also feel that if we see the ability to get the punishment at lower standards such as for rappings or for harder drug cases, then we will see that the crime rate will drop. I feel that this would be worth it even though each death penalty case cost about three million dollars a piece.
