1.I decided to write about a nuclear medicine technologist because my parents suggested it to me. I did not know what that was until I researched it and then found that I was interested in this occupation. While researching, I learned several things I did not know about this job. I had no idea how much a job could impact your life. The wages, job hours, educational requirements, and many more job details play an important role in a job. 5. The educational requirements are a huge factor in a job. The educational requirements are one of the reasons why I am absorbed in this occupation. I do not necessarily want to go to school for a lengthy time after high school and nuclear technologists do not have to. Forty-five percent of workers in this …show more content…
A major satisfaction in this business would be the wages. A nuclear medicine technologist’s average annual wage in Oklahoma is $69,100. They hourly make $33.20. Additionally, the educational requirements are a satisfaction because I do not want to go to college for a long time. People in this occupation usually need to only have an associate degree (OKCIS). 45% of people only have an associate degree in this occupation (America’s Career Info Net). 13. My family life might be affected by this profession. They usually work full time and might work on evenings. The work schedule might conflict the times I am at home. However, they normally work a set schedule so I could plan family activities around work (OKCIS). 17. There are a few professional organizations that are correlated with this occupation. One organization is SNM- Society of Nuclear Medicine. The website is “snw.org.” The other organization is NMTCB-Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board, and the website is “nmtcb.org” (America’s Career Info Net). 4. Normally hospitals hire nuclear technologists. Radiologists also need nuclear medicine technologists to work for them with the x-rays. I think the work environment would be a satisfaction because I feel like I would be comfortable in a hospital scene. Also clinics designed just for radiologists would be interested in hiring nuclear technologists
One of the main reasons for choosing a healthcare career in todays society, aside from the basic need for a self sustaining income, is the opportunity to make differences in peoples lives. With the demand for healthcare professionals and alternative medicines on the rise, so is the need for adequately educated trained personnel. Diagnostic Medical Sonography is becoming an increasingly attractive alternative to radiologic procedures such as x-ray and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Accounting for approximately 50,300 jobs in the United States in 2008, compared to the 214,000 jobs held by radiologic technicians, according to
1. My essay is over Dental Hygienist. I choose this occupation because I’m in high school right now and I’ve taken health science I and II; my next two years I want to finish the health science classes. The reason I want to pursue being a dental hygiene is because dental hygienist have good working schedule and there are provided many rewards and challenges. It would also be a great opportunity to help communities to become healthier.
Also, living in a highly populated area means that hospitals are not hard to find so finding a position shouldn’t be too difficult as long as I meet all their requirements. Also worth noting, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the ageing population of baby boomers may increase the need for surgical technologist due to the possibility that this generation cohort may want to undergo more surgeries to maintain an active standard of living.
There are more openings than candidates in the last few years. Also, the BLS predicts that the employment for a radiologist technician will increase by twenty-eight percent in the time period of 2010-2020 (100 Healthcare Careers pg. 315). So, the outlook of finding this job is looking very good right now. If a radiologist is wanting to stay in this area, there are three hospitals in the area they could look for employment. They could apply at Passavant, St. Johns, or Memorial hospital. These three hospitals are in Sangamon and Morgan county. People willing to put in to the long hours to become a radiologist will always be
I had the privilege to shadow a Rad. Tech at Newton Piedmont Hospital. Upon my arrival the Rad. Tech showed me the equipment along with a few scans from the past of healthy breast tissue as well as tissue that has been mutated in some way. She allowed me to look at the scans as they came up and determine if they looked healthy or had a mutation in some shape or form.
I have observed how Radiologic technologist comfort patients and provide their support at a time where the patient is overwhelmed and anxious about what the results will show. For example, we had a young kid come into the Emergency Department with his parents complaining of severe abdominal pain. The doctor had ordered a CT scan and I accompanied the patient and his parents to the CT scan room. The kid and parents were terrified to get the scan, as they were unsure what to expect. A Radiologic technician explained the process and risk/benefits of the scan to them very clearly and in a consolable manner. He answered all questions that the parents or the child had and put their minds at ease. I envision myself being in the shoes of the technician directly contributing to society. I inspire to be in a field that allows me to assist and console people when they are at a rough point in their
If you asked me two years ago while I was in high school what career I would like to pursue I would have no idea. Today, I have found something I am passionate about and that is Radiologic Technology. Being an athlete for thirteen years, I have had my fair share of injuries leading me to X-rays and MRI’s. The human body really sparked my interest, but every career learning and teaching others about the human body wasn’t for me until I found Radiology Technology.
Modern medicine is capable of treating a tremendous range of human disease and injuries, but the usefulness of all medical specialties depends on accurate diagnosis. Virtually every conceivable medical specialty relies on radiological technologies to provide formal diagnoses, making radiology one of the most important of all medical specialties. Radiologists enjoy some of the best working conditions in modern medicine and typically experience very positive employment conditions. Consequently, their services are generally in very high demand, with many starting out with six-figure annual incomes immediately after completion of their professional training.
An ultrasound technologist not only gives you the opportunity to interact with the patients, but it’s hands on with
An antibody has the ability to fight against any harmful materials found within a human being. A radiologist also has the ability to do so. Like an antibody, a radiologist also has a vital role in an individual’s survival.
8.Though very rare there is a possibility of being poisoned and needing treatment. It has also been reported that radiologists and their counterparts suffer a higher risk of cancers compared to those working in jobs without radioactive material present. This risk however great it may be is still worth taking in the pursuit of becoming a radiologist. Most radiologists pay no mind to the impending danger posed by an accident in there place of work, hospitals have been known to be
Prior to beginning my academic career in Radiology I already knew that my passion for imaging would take me on this path. Having worked at Saint Clare hospital for 8 years. During this time I have work as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in Progressive Care Unit (PCU). In addition, I was cross trained as an Emergency Room Technician. Currently I work in Diagnostic imaging as the weekend Patient
Radiation therapy is one of the most growing occupations nowadays whose job outlook is 24% whish is much faster than the average. Although this career just requires an associated degree, I want to get the bachelor degree cause there are lots of hospitals required four-year degrees now. Besides, the ones who get higher education and training are higher likely to get hired. In condition, the median is pretty high compared to other area in health care except for doctors
I began pursuing a career in radiology in the summer of 2012. Just a few months prior I had been in the need of direction and was attending a men’s group. Neither of my parents attended college, so they were unable to give me advice for a career. That is when I met James, he would come to our meetings wearing surgical scrubs and later I learned that he graduated from TCC as a surgical tech. So naturally, I went through their degree catalog and decided on the radiology program. I’ve always been a visual learner, somewhat creative and a caregiver. So I knew that medical imaging would be right for me.
I currently attend Baton Rouge General School of Radiologic Technology to pursue an Associates degree through Northwestern State University. I chose this profession because I always want to help others. I want to play a part in the healing process of patients. Being able to help people determine things going on inside their body interest me and that is why I chose Radiology. The true definition of a Radiologic Technologist is the “medical personnel who perform diagnostic imaging examinations and administer radiation therapy treatments. They are educated in anatomy, patient positioning, examination techniques, equipment protocols, radiation safety, radiation protection and basic patient care”. This definition makes this job seem easy but it is not an easy job at all. We do so much pushing, pulling, and lifting of patients it is physically exhausting. When I first chose this profession I did not think there would be this much to taking images of someone. It is more than just placing a patient somewhere and
