Some personal skills I have and use in everyday life and work is that I can multitask, I’m dependable, hardworking, productive, resourceful, and able to adapt easily to different environments. I have always had a, “get things done as quickly and accurately as possible”, type of personality. Some of my interests are learning new things, creating things- like crafts, repurposing, painting, etc., and being outside. I like to figure things out and solve problems. My weaknesses are that I am impatient, not very assertive, I have a hard time working with people I do not get along with, and I am not optimistic all of the time. I do not like being bored or wasting time doing mindless activities like watching tv or messing around on my phone- which now I do a lot. Some other not so big goals I have are to have a large vegetable garden and travel. I like to be outside and create things so creating a garden and growing my own food seems like a great way to accomplish both of those things. Traveling will keep boredom at bay and give me an opportunity to try new things and see some of the world.
I feel like I will be able to easily adapt to whatever career I end up at, because I learn quickly and I am hardworking. I like to live life in a “go with the flow” manner because I know that life 's circumstances change plans- though I do plan for the close future and have goals for the distant future. My job will not determine if I have a fulfilled life, I believe that your life is what you make it and a career should not be the main part of a person’s life and happiness. I plan on graduating from Snead State Community College in May 2016 and transferring to Jacksonville State University, then graduate from there in the Spring of 2018.Right now I am working at a wedding venue in Arab. I believe this will help me to reach current and future goals because it helps me gain skills used in any career path. I march to the beat of my own drum. I also am unconventional and I think that this is an attribute. I do not fall in line behind others and I like to think about things differently than other people. I am a take-charge person and in projects, I love to prioritize and plan out what needs to happen to make the completed product. I am also good at following orders. When someone tells me to do something, I do it in an orderly and timely fashion.
I found that my top five weaknesses are as follows: 1. Money management, 2. Understanding technology, 3. Energy level, 4. Seeking support from others and 5. Ability to focus on one thing at a time (Bethel University, 2014).
One of the many flaws I have encountered with myself is that I don’t deal well with confrontation .Another weakness of mine is that when someone troughs to much information at me all at once it’s hard understand it all in. The last flaw I have noticed about myself is that I am too hard on myself, but I am working to improve it. On the Other hand my strengths are that I am always on time. I take criticism well and try and improve on whatever skill’s I am lacking. Last strength of mine is that I am a hard-worker. I would be as motivated at my job, every day from the first day they hired me to the last. I would like to think of myself as a nice and humble person. I treat everyone the same with respect. The reason why I am interested in this field of work is because, I love helping people. I know I would excel in this field of work because it’s a part of life. The reason a company should hire me is because I will excel their expectations, I will always work to my fullest. I work well with anyone and everyone, I am a very reliable person. I’m very neat and clean, I know where I am going, and what i want out of my life. I enjoy change, I believe everything happens for a reason. I may take a day or two to adapt to the new environment, but I just take a step back and look at the bigger picture.
Some of my interests include flying and gaming. Two of my aptitudes are computers and technical engineering. Two skills I have are figuring how things work and exploring things I have not done before. Some of the good qualities I have are being kind-hearted, patient and having a good sense of humor.
Using the GCIS skills assessment, I placed my top 5 skills as dependability, integrity, attention to detail, analyzing, and decision making. My top three personality types are Enterprising, Conventional, and Social and Investigative both have the same score. Enterprising I had the highest score of 39, enterprising is being competitive and liking to be in control and lead others. Also being responsible for getting your own work done and supervising others. I feel like enterprising is a great type for me to have, because to get the job I want and to climb in my field it will help to be competitive, also being able to lead others is great so when I have reached the pinnacle of the ladder I will be able to lead my fellow coworkers. Conventional was my second highest type at 33, conventional means I like to keep things in order, I do things careful and the right way, and use clear instructions and rules to do so. Weaknesses I have had difficulty on is having to write essays. Every time my teachers assign me work to perform that involves writing an essay for instance, I tend to get frustrated. I would often spend hours trying to craft an idea on what to write about and how I should word it in my essay. An additional problem is when I read the paper to myself and looks fine, but when I turn the paper over to someone else, they do not find the point I was trying to convey. Then, I would have to verbally express the key ideas or meaning of the essay. My next two weaknesses are the ones that I still continue to kind of struggle. Personally I believe that I am organised, I always carry round a diary, where I note down important dates and deadlines, and therefore allowing me to manage my time more efficiently. Another strength that I have is that I know how to operate a computer and I know how to use a computer effectively, at GCSE I got a B in my exam in Information and Technology, therefore giving me an advantage compared to someone who do not know how to use the computer. I also believe that I am confident, and that I have courage and the ability to speak to new people and adapt myself to a new environment without feeling uncomfortable. As well as that, I am also able to work in a group, where I can listen to my members in my group as well as voice my own opinion.
Another one of my current strengths would be that I am very detail oriented and specially in a clinical setting, can be quite useful. Being able to pay attention to minor details can be the best way to assess a patient and find the best method of working with them.
My weak area was the self-regulation portion; most of my responses to how often I handled each situation were “usually.” I need to improve on controlling my feelings in certain situations, trying to be more aware of tasks and their proposed deadlines, managing my time wisely, and executing new ideas that I myself have formulated. Other weaknesses were found in most of the areas where my strengths were. Most of them involved taking risks, which my personality often deters me from engaging in.
For example, my dream career is to be a pediatrician and if I want to be a pediatrician I have to be patient, generous, and loyal to my patients because if I am not patient and if I do not listen to them there might be a conflict. Dependable is one of the most important strengths out of all my strengths that my brother has mentioned. The reason why I think dependable is an important strength is because if you are going apply for anything the first thing that I will look in a person is if they are dependable and will successfully do their career without chaos. The strengths I have: being efficient and organize. I have to have everything a particular manner before I write, perform, or do almost any jobs. Occasionally this can cost me lots of time. The weaknesses that I have are a perfectionist and impatient at times. I was used to working at a substantially faster rate than those around me. Sharing information and interacting with others is when I learn best. Understanding my weaknesses assists me to plan methods to conquer them when I am doing tasks and socializing with others. I must be kinder to myself and less strict about matters being merely so. I also need to be more delicate and comprehensible of others who tend not to take up my perfectionist styles. I also should be patient with people who take longer time to work. Since I have got a tendency to delay works when I do not feel like doing anything, I, therefore, need to create a regular schedule with integrated rewards and times for learning and acquiring assignments done.
It is vital when looking for a new job or career that you know what skills and qualities you have. Knowing what you can or cannot do will alter what employers and positions there are for you. Throughout my higher education at Full Sail University, I have been able to overcome weaknesses that I have and raised other strengths beyond what I thought I could. I am certain that because of my strengths, I am good at what I do however; I do have weaknesses that I have to overcome and improve. My personal weakness at work is lack of leadership. Currently I am in a position in which I do not possess the title of management. As a result, I basically feel that I do not have to show leadership or take initiative to take on the responsibilities of a manager when in reality, I am not.
