Where the Inner Demons Lie Throughout the process of growing up there are multiple emotions and situations a child may face, they will not always be easy to overcome. The most prominent emotions or stages are anger and pessimism, feeling neglected, the issue of trying to find yourself, and lastly a brokenness that is a mixture of being misunderstood and impulse. Neglect, the state of being uncared for. A sense of being forgotten in this instance. As children grow up their parents and caregivers will think of them as being more independent and allow them to run themselves, except it’s often not always announced to the child and they start to feel neglected. A parent all of a sudden busy with work and never has time to listen to stories from the child, whereas when the child was younger the parent was always there to listen to stories and play. All that has happened is the child has matured and the parent thinks that they can survive on their own without constant coddling and supervision. Feeling neglected can also come from peers. What is most closely associated with it is the tendency to see the worst aspect in everything. Once things seem to be going wrong for whatever reason, a negative attitude is the response. After feeling left out, I really didn’t feel much happiness in going to school. I was more grumpy and just expected the worst from going to school. The persistence of my pessimism only strengthened when some of my oldest friends brought in the new girl at school to our group. She made herself feel welcome by walking all over me. At this point I expected nothing pleasant to come from being at school. Pessimism is not always as it seems, growing up can certainly prove that, but when pessimism is in play it breeds an anger and
