The zombie apocalypse had come hard and fast, taking the world and its inhabitants by storm. I would like to say biggest worry had been for those around me, for the future, and how I would survive. That hadn’t been the case, however. My biggest concern had steamed from needing a weapon. Too many weapons were easily broken or needed more than just what it came with. It was a hard to choose, a choice that could very well affect my life. It was strange, you know? I had always had a fear of the zombie apocalypse, even when people went on and on about how it couldn’t exist. Maybe that paranoia was what helped me become so prepared. When the living dead had struck at me for the first time I had been surprised with how well I took it. I only threw
The article “My Zombie, Myself: Why Modern Life Feels Rather Undead,” written by Chuck Klosterman, discusses the reasons behind zombies becoming so popular. Klosterman writes that rise of popularity of zombies is different than that of vampires. He states that most monsters are initially created as representations of fear. Similar to that of Frankenstein or vampires, Klosterman explains that zombies could be viewed in the same light; however, zombies are better explained as an allegory for our day to day existence. Rather than some innate fear, Klosterman highlights this fact to be why zombies have risen to such high popularity.
You never really notice the end of the world, it just happens too quickly to acknowledge. I faintly remember my life before the outbreak, I’m just like any other Florida college freshman, aside from the fact that I have anxiety and minor depression. I live on campus and one day our dorm advisor advises us that classes will be cancelled, and that we should stay in our dorms due to a sickness going around. I don’t think much of it at first but, I turn on the on the news, and they say that some kind of flu in South America has made it way to the U.S.
A major contributing factor to this great change is the fear and uncertainty that is instilled by the zombies. I believe that Brooks defined fear through people’s reactions to the outbreak. He explains how fear is the most basic emotion and how fear is the reasoning to perform an act. In one of his stories, he writes, “fear is the most valuable commodity in the universe” (Brooks). This is true because we buy products and services based on the fear of not having those products and the results of not having that commodity.
I would hide in the auditorium box where all the controls for the lights, music and speakers are controlled. This would be the perfect spot to avoid the walking dead since they would have to climb up stairs to reach this area. Also this specific area has three ways of making an escape route with heavy equipment to block the doorways. The ultimate plan would be to mix substances in the chemistry lab to throw at the zombies and blow them into mince meat pieces. This would include the brain since that is the only way to kill a zombie. The five things I would need for survival would be a pack of very sharp number 2 pencils to aim toward the zombies brain, heavy AP textbooks, some chemistry supplies, something that causes loud noise such as a boombox
Lillian Hendrickson and her family were in this run down paper factory for twenty years. When Lillian first got trapped in this building she was four years old. Her parents both worked in this paper factory and when they heard the zombie apocalypse was coming they grabbed Lillian and her brother, Liam. The zombie apocalypse was the cause of aliens coming and giving humans a “remedy” so they could resurrect loved ones. Everyone thought these aliens were very kind, but when they realized that their resurrected loved ones tried to bite them they got the idea that they weren’t. The whole world was in panic mode. With in four hours more than half of the world's population was a zombie. That brings us to present time where the apocalypse has ended
One poster in particular, a Night of the Living Dead movie poster, shone in the corner of his wall, right above his bed. He looked at it, the heavy lidded stare returning. The pictures it depicted, screaming women and flesh eating zombies covering the edges, used to oddly bring him comfort, but now gazing up at it brought a chill down his spine. The zombies stared down at him as if he was their next victim, the zombies with bloodthirsty lust for...HUMAN FLESH!. Not surprisingly, Frank had bought him that poster, knowing their share of love for the movie. His ten year old self echoed a childish hope in the corner of his mind, maybe Frank would turn into a zombie. Frank would have been elated at the idea of himself being a flesh-eating monster.
A door, set into the side of the building offered a quieter entry. Opening the big hanger door, set into the front of the quonset hut, would have been too noisy. We didn’t know what we were walking into. Just as Dave was reaching for the doorknob I put a hand out and stopped him.
Do not let anyone say that watching television rots the mind or causes people to have unrealistic expectations about life, because when the zombie apocalypse plagues this earth all of those hours of binge watching “The Walking Dead” will come in handy. If the zombie apocalypse happened tomorrow, I would be more than ready to take on a world of flesh eating monsters. My journey of survival would depend on three vital items: my Toyota Avalon, a katana, and wood- a lot of wood. These objects are the necessities for success in the Armageddon: quick scavenging missions, easy zombie defeats, and most importantly, protection. This is the recipe for endurance when the world ends.
People have always thought out a plan for a zombie apocalypse, but most people don’t overthink it like I do, and in my opinion overthinking is going to save my life. I have thought of a full proof plan that will keep me alive for a full average life for a human. My plan consist of traps and strategies that will be remarked as clever and witty.
If I had to come up with a zombie apocalypse plan on the fly, I would probably fail. Luckily this essay has given me a chance to think about what I would do in this situation. If I wanted I could mess around and steal stuff that I wanted, but that’s the way to ending up dead. Every human needs three things in order to survive, food, water, and shelter. Since I’m already on a school campus when the apocalypse happens, I can start gathering items right away.
It was a week or maybe more since everything went out of order, and you probably have no clue what pain I’m going through. I’m alone stuck inside my room, my parents dead, and my sister missing. Perhaps they’re not dead, but they turned into heart eating zombies(Yes, not brain eating zombies like in movies). The U.S. government officially turned into a group of terrorists, who put toxic evil chemicals inside people’s food to make people in the U.S. to zombie slaves. Some resistants were trying to fight off the zombies in the street that was filled up with chaos. Of course the electricity is down because the zombies chewed every piece of the electricity wire. The radio did work, but the people talking on the radio were the billionaires who turned
When the walking dead invade my school it’ll be the biggest mistake they did. My first step in coming out alive is gathering everyone in one room and devise a plan with them. I’d make sure everyone has a role and everyone works together to work at maximum efficiency. To ensure we make it out alive we’d have to use our creative minds to be able to gather everyday items and make them into weapons. I’d shaper a yardstick to make it into a spear to be able to pierce the zombie brains, also would go to the tool room and grab the biggest hammer to bash zombie brains.
My life as I knew it has been eradicated, chomped away by zombies. The zombies took everything I had -everything I considered normal. Now, time is of the essence; they can smell the fear. If I am to survive, I need a plan.
Another result of watching The Watching Dead is I have become extremely paranoid. I think about how I would fare if the zombie apocalypse were ever to occur. I would have to be very fit and very enduring to make it through the hardship of the perilous life. Every decision I made would be life-or-death, I would constantly in danger, and I would have to be fast acting. I’m not sure how I would do if this ever happened in real life, and I never want to know. This show has caused me to think about these kinds of things, and I have become very paranoid from these
