I got back from Hawaii late on Friday, it was a long series of travel and at the time I was exhausted. Both flights had complementary movies,The best of all was my second flight from seattle to Minneapolis, the airliner was an older 757-200. The rear of the headrest in front of you had a touch screen with free tv shows. However days earlier I was in Maui, the first day was when we went the Lao Valley state park, it was relatively small and we forged through the paths quickly, only stopping every few feet to take a picture. The rest of the day was spent getting food items for out hotel room with a kitchen. Cooking in the room would reduce eating out and ultimately reduce cost. “Holiday on a budget” my mother would continuously say, However …show more content…
The second day was one of the longest yet interesting, before the day my family has never been on a formal hike, My father really wanted to drive the “road to Hana” It was a road that can take you 360 degrees around the fringe of the island. We only decided to drive the north part that lead to the historic town of Hana and 45 minutes further was a national park that featured trails up and around the volcano Haleakalā. The drive was a grueling five or so hours, its long not because the island is small, rather that the road is so windy and crude, some parts so thin that it could be considered a one lane road where you have to stop and get your vehicle as far close to the side as possible to let the car from the opposite direction pass. Once at the park, the walking began we stopped in a bamboo forest then walked more till we got to a mountain with water falling from it, it was a truly gorgeous site. Then like a bad case of deja vu we walked back down the trail, had a quick break, and walked more, walked on the coast, walked on roads, and almost walked on water then we walked to the …show more content…
The music was live and astonishing along with the main stage performers made for an unforgettable show. Wednesday was our fourth day and my mothers birthday, for us the day started at 2:00 in the morning, early so that we can drive to the top the Haleakalā volcano, some 9,000 feet. We got stunning family photos and some good shots for my instagram. On the way down we stopped at a local family owned restaurant known for their Hawaiian breakfast and brilliant pancakes. They get a lot of business from the tourist how see the sunset and get conveniently hungry on their way down. Back at the resort the whole family knocked out for at least four hours. We awoke to excitement because that evening we would attend a traditional Luau. Our host, who acted more as a stand up comedian was very entertaining he let many peoples of the audience participate in the show, I learned a lot and park of the event was dedicated to my mother birthday, music was nice, food was immaculate and entertainment didn’t disappoint, wednesday was truily a highlight of the trip. The fifth day was considered “a day for dad” it was a day to sit poolside and just relax, mainly aimed to my father who has been driving and managing the events and sub
Walking away from everything you once knew and starting over is never a picnic. Leaving Iraq, and moving to America has impacted my life more than anything. I was only 4 years old at that time, and the only English I spoke was “excuse me, water please.” My family and I did not know it then, but our lives were going to change; we would become “Americanized”. Learning English was one of the massive changes that occurred, the way I dressed (culture), and even the way I had power to go to school and educate myself.
It was late one day in June, and the sky was as blue and clear as sparkling wine. I sat back in my hammock reading the book Unbroken enjoying myself, and my uncle came up and asked me if I wanted to play poker with him, 5$ buy in. I jumped at the idea finished my page and went inside the house. Poker is a pretty big thing in my family and I’ve grown up playing and my uncle was one of the best, so spending time with him playing poker is always one of my favorite things to do. We proceed to set up the table, “Texas Holdem“ he says, Jacks to open”. Nothing weird, so we get the game going and the pots getting pretty big when all of the sudden he drops his cards. I stare the cards dead in the eye and see that i'm going to surpass him! He looks
Temple Road was once in a project, an elderly man sincerely. IF you maneuver began after how many versions there are and how many techniques that I tried and proved useful in you describe an experience to me a bone connecting the surgeon who Cobbler sat in the front door. (the grant was very experienced), it was my idea to them.
Imagine being at the peak of your high school career, personally, academically, and athletically. For me, that was my sophomore year. I was selected to be on the homecoming court, I won a free class ring, and a free corsage and boutonniere for prom. I was on my way to a 4.0 grade point average. I was pulled up to Varsity basketball, I became the 100 meter hurdle regional champion, and I qualified for two events at the Division 4 State meet for track and field. In one split second, a clip of a hurdle, that was over. My first race of the day was the preliminary 100 meter hurdles. Once the race started, I was calm, focused, and determined. I was starting to make my way up to the front of the pack when I clipped my trail leg on the eighth hurdle.
Yes, I have found myself in a situation where I felt I misinterpreted a non-verbal or verbal signal / cue with someone of another culture. Chaminade University of Honolulu is a diverse school. During my first semester at Chaminade, I was dorming with two different girls with two different cultures. An incident happened when my roommate sister came to visit all the way from England. When my roommate wanted to take a picture of all three of us, I held up a peace sign. It was an embarrassing moment because after the picture was taken, her sister gave me a weird look. That’s when my roommate took me to the side and explained to me that a peace sign is considered offensive. I really didn’t know at the time. I apologized for my wrongdoing. After
Her father’s words echoed through her head as one might hear a reverberation throughout the Taj Mahal. Continuous. Chilling. Having no control to distill the wavelengths until they mellowed out on their own accord. She tried to anatomize the depth of his phrase, more than dutifully needed but Davina needed to know why. Why did she need to keep an open mind and more importantly, who the hell was about to come bursting through that door. But then again, did it really matter in the first place. When she thought about it, the brunette could have laughed at the idea. That an unattributed, faceless figure had her panties in a bunch. Surely Dominic wouldn’t think to waste her time with venial diversions,
I think that is an excellent thought, Lindsey. When I first read this that is what I thought as well. Whenever Ada begins to let Susan love her, and whenever Susan starts to show more affection Ada lashes out. I think that Ada lashes out because she feels like she is not deserving of love, and she is not deserving of nice things. This just tears me up inside when a person does not feel like they are worth being loved. The amount of damage that Ada has suffered is almost irreversible now and I think Susan is starting to realize that this will not be an easy fix. I am honestly surprised at how normal Jamie is because even though he was not the one who was abused, he witnessed the abuse. I am glad that he has not lost his trust in people. This
“Hey you want to drive”, my step-dad yelled over the loud engine of blue grizzly 4x4 quad I yelled “yes!!”, so as I got one the quad I put on my helmet and fased the strap on the same color helmet.
Put the gun down! Put the gun down! Pow Pow Pow. The gun shots cracked into the air as loud as thunder. One after another. We live day by day not knowing our end. In the blink of an eye our lives can be changed forever. Its life, yet even in knowing this we never expect tragedy to find us. We never expect it to affect our lives and the people we know and love. I’m going to share with you the day tragedy found my life.
You know that moment when you’re trying to reach the toilet paper but can't quite, then fall and kill yourself on a pumpkin? Yeah I know that feeling… it’s not good. It all started one very normalish day at 1065 Fitzgerald Ave.
Just so you know, this is the Big Apple and I rule this town. New York City is filled with tall buildings, great culture, and historical sites. No other city has so much beauty that it takes your breath away; yet, there is a real danger that lurks on the streets. I should know because I am Detective Michael Morgan a United States Super Spy in charge of capturing dastardly villains who are set on destroying our world. Armed with mind-altering powers, Alex Higgins is on the top of the FBI’s list of the ten most wanted men in America. This thug is one of the greatest danger to our world and must be captured and jailed in the vault of death. There is no place safe for him to hide from the law and rumor has it, he is in my town. You break the law here in New York City, you pay the ultimate price: freedom.
That moment, thirteen years ago, was the moment that changed everything. I was young, at only 22 years old, and filled with excitement for the new job that began only one week prior. The typical first day jitters were beginning to settle, though I still felt new and quite anxious. My desire to fit in, make new friends, and to impress my peers radiated through me. I was on a mission to excel in my new role. Little did I know, when I began that day, my naive self would be in for a rude awakening. I would soon be discriminated against.
While I was in Hawaii, I stayed in Honolulu. I stayed with my aunt and uncle, they have 2 kids. The boy is the oldest and his name is Drake. Their other child is a girl, her name is Mila. Her name is hawaiian since she was born there. So when I went it was not just me. My grandparents, my sisters, my parents and my brother went on this great trip with me. They loved it there and so did I. They lived there for about 3-4 years. My uncle is in the U.S. Coast Guard so he got stationed in Hawaii. When they lived there their house was in Pearl City. When we stayed there we were there for 11 days. The 11 days went by so fast, it seemed like only 5 days. While we were there, we did many things. So the first day we were there we went to a beach. We drove to Paradise Cove Beach for the first day and we went there a couple times after that. This beach was beautiful and it had a great view. When I first swam in the ocean I forgot it was salt water so when water got into my mouth I was grossed out. We stayed at this beach for a good 3 hours. We also went to other beaches like Waikiki, Makaha, and others I do not remember. At the first beach we
Growing up with a father in the military, you move around a lot more than you would like to. I was born just east of St. Louis in a city called Shiloh in Illinois. When I was two years old my dad got the assignment to move to Hawaii. We spent seven great years in Hawaii, we had one of the greatest churches I have ever been to name New Hope. New Hope was a lot like Olivet's atmosphere, the people were always friendly and there always something to keep someone busy. I used to dance at church, I did hip-hop and interpretive dance, but you could never tell that from the way I look now.
In my 38 years of life, I’ve had to overcome plenty of obstacles. When examining my life, especially in my younger years, it showed me life consists of an assortment of minor and major obstacles. Facing an obstacle, especially a major one, and conquering it, awards me a triumphant feeling. Furthermore, this feeling did provide me with determination, willpower, and courage to take on any future obstacles that life can throw at me (Harrington, 2012). This makes minor obstacles to become like a cake walk.
