The Land of Opportunities “They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapist. ...I'm not just saying Mexicans, I’m talking about people that are from all over [the world] that are killers and rapists and their coming into this country.” These are the disgusting insults that presidential candidate Donald Trump, who plans to build a massive wall around the United States, has recently scratched up to give his new modern definition of what it means to be an illegal immigrant. But despite these allegations, being an illegal immigrant has meant the same thing since the beginning of the history of the United States. An illegal immigrant is a hard working person who has no other choice but to leave the poverty stricken or hostile environment …show more content…
When asked about a plan for amnesty, former presidential candidate Ben Carson recalls his meeting with a farmer who owns a large 8 thousand acre farm and how the man “could not hire not one American to work on his farm. Not even at $11.00 an hour.” Carson further clarifies the meaning of his encounter by stating that, “[America] needs illegal aliens to do the jobs Americans won’t do.” This is true, for illegal immigrants will take any open job if it means its going to feed them and/or their families. As a consequence, unauthorized immigrants mostly work in construction, agriculture, and hospitality services which pay less and are more physically demanding than secondary education jobs (Bump). But illegal immigrants are not just stopping there. In recent years, the chances of an undocumented immigrant getting a white collar job have increased from 10 to 13% from 2007 to 2012 (Bump). This means that more illegal immigrants are challenging themselves to compete for better jobs by widening their skill sets in order increase their chances of living a more prosperous
Walking away from everything you once knew and starting over is never a picnic. Leaving Iraq, and moving to America has impacted my life more than anything. I was only 4 years old at that time, and the only English I spoke was “excuse me, water please.” My family and I did not know it then, but our lives were going to change; we would become “Americanized”. Learning English was one of the massive changes that occurred, the way I dressed (culture), and even the way I had power to go to school and educate myself.
This past year, I have been apart of Naperville Central’s brand new Special Spaces club. When my friend approached me and asked me to join, I agreed even though I had no clue what I was involving myself in. In retrospective, I can honestly say that becoming a part of Special Spaces has been one of the most meaningful, fun, and fulfilling experiences I have had in high school.
Over my years of school, one big influence on me has always been sports. Ever since a young age, I have always enjoyed playing and watching sports. In my four years in high school, I have fell in love with the sport of lacrosse.
I woke up and took one bite out of my pop tart but that one bite was all I could eat. My legs were shaking, and my heart was pounding. My dad told me, “It is a true honor to even make it this far so go out there and have some fun.” Once I heard this statement, I knew I was ready to go. I arrived at school and boarded the bus. The car ride was an hour and fifteen minutes of hearing the squeaking of the wheel on the bus. My teammates were getting their heads ready for the big game.
Overall, my first semester has been going pretty well. The semester is going like a roller coaster up, down, and fast. I have some bad days and some good days. Through this semester, I have many challenges I faced which I honestly did not want to face. Even though I just wanted to dodge or run away from the challenges, I still face them and fought through them. Some challenges I face this semester, hopefully not in the next, are procrastination, time management, and laziness. I have not only gone through challenges; I have also gone through successes. I am proud of turning assignments on time, passing tests and quizzes, completing my SCR points, and being involved in clubs. Being in Biomed has helped me grow as a student in the area of knowledge.
Illegal immigration has been a controversial issue that has benefitted and harmed the country in several ways; however, many issues dealing with the subject have transformed the future for America dramatically. Although the United States has absorbed and benefitted from the contributions of the undocumented, their presence has imposed harm to the country’s economy and political stability. They have taken over American jobs by retrieving several advantages that come along with the country’s policies, as well as harming the country by not assimilating to the culture and sustaining their identities. The influx of immigrants from other parts of the world has prompted an overwhelming change in society and the immigrants themselves due to more opportunities available in the United States. These immigrants have different motives for entering the country, hoping to obtain a better life in the land of opportunities. There is a greater chance of freedom, protection, and benefits, which are a priority to the migrants to achieve the American dream. Although the immigrants are advancing to achieve their goals, the government is advancing towards stabilizing the overcrowding population due to the hazards caused to the environment and the country. Many of these aliens have aspirations and hopes for a better future in this country, and they do not plan to harm it. On the other hand, some are a threat, but they come to reach that goal of self- independence and a new opening of opportunities.
The United States of America deals with a hand full of issues everyday, but one of the main issues that the united states has been dealing with since around the eighteen hundreds to the present time. Illegal Immigration is not anything to new to the United States. The United States often refers Illegal Immigrants as “illegal aliens”(Gale, 2016) or “undocumented workers.”(Gale, 2016). Immigrants such as Hispanics, Middle Easterners, etc. populate almost fifty-two percent of the American population. Although there are negative issues associated with Illegal Immigrants such as “ Jobs, and Medicaid”(Shaping and Reshaping), Americans believe that Illegal Immigration to be more of a problem than an overall solution. When in reality Immigrants among
I live approximately 15-20 minutes from my employer. I have two option routes essentially to get to work: 1) on a combination of State roads and 2) a two lane (one way in each direction) street with several small turns. The shortest path is the two-lane road, but I have to cross 5-10 stop lights. And this road can be somewhat congested, due to fact that there is an elementary school and high school with kids at the intersection crossing the streets, school buses making left turns at school entrances, a hospital and other travelers going back and forth to work. Furthermore, the two-lane road becomes even more congested when it rains. The state roads have fewer traffic lights, wider lanes, and turn lanes and off-ramps. However, more drivers
only time we will discuss is yours, and the only applause will go to you. Many self-help books bring in other people, but I call that baggage. If it’s not your personal baggage, then it’s too much luggage.

I watched as Reedfang disappeared into the bushes with Leafwatcher by his side until their tails vanished from my line of sight. My eyes momentarily closed as I gathered my bearings, praying to Starclan that I wouldn't have any needs for my claws.
I was brought up into a family who believed in working hard to get what you want, and I too, have taken in this belief. I started taking a part in our family farm at a very young age, and have stayed involved each year. It’s not always enjoyable, but having my easy-going dad around, to keep the frustrating moments calm, sure can make it enjoyable for me. My grandpa and great uncle also helped me have a strong connection to the farm, and always helping out when help was needed. I was never believed by many when I told stories of driving the combine at a young age in school. My peers and teachers all thought it was near impossible, for a kid my size to operate such large equipment, but believe me or not, there isn’t much to it. It may look big and scary, but it happens to be my favorite part of farming.
It was a bright, sunny day and I was eating pizza inside with my beautiful girlfriend. We were trying out a brand new restaurant in Stuyvesant Plaza called Blaze Pizza. It was very good, crispy, thin pizza. She got pepperoni on hers and I got pepperoni, jalapenos, and artichokes on mine. Yum. After that awesome meal we were looking for something to do. Luckily, our friends Lindsay and Chris wanted to hangout. Chris and Lindsay are really smart, nice, and adventurous people. I’d like to think Sarah and I are that way too, but I’m not that smart. We get along with them really well and enjoy spending time with them. Chris recommended we go to a waterfall close to Rensselaer, which sounded like a good plan to us. Chris picked us up at my house,
I have been a part of a lower-middle to middle-class family my entire life and there have been times where we couldn’t afford to get an x-ray or MRI. Most times I can recall, I was older, and knew my parents’ financial situation. I was one of those people who fought through injuries. If the games were important, or my injury wasn’t too painful, and things were tight financially, I would offer to wait a couple weeks until one or the other got their paycheck. We were and are a tight knit family. Being a former high school athlete and playing basketball my whole life, I have sustained multiple injuries, most of which have fortunately been fairly minor. Basketball players’ legs and ankles get the brute of the damage. Some held me back from doing some things I
