This past week I took the weekend off from work, The Fresh Market, because I needed a break. I was just burned out from working two jobs and school full time. I used some of the 120 hours of vacation time I earned. I simply chilled for the weekend and got some much needed rest. On Friday, I got up around 11:00 o’clock and went to the gym, still trying to stick to my diet, workout for an hour and a haft. Later, that afternoon I had a doctor’s appointment at Schaeffer’s Eye Center. Found out that I was still on my mother’s insurance plus I had my own. With the two I received two pair of glasses, one pair of sunglasses (Ray bands) and one pair of regular glasses (Coach). Saturday, I slept in until 12:00 o’clock. I got up and got dressed, then
Over my years of school, one big influence on me has always been sports. Ever since a young age, I have always enjoyed playing and watching sports. In my four years in high school, I have fell in love with the sport of lacrosse.
I woke up and took one bite out of my pop tart but that one bite was all I could eat. My legs were shaking, and my heart was pounding. My dad told me, “It is a true honor to even make it this far so go out there and have some fun.” Once I heard this statement, I knew I was ready to go. I arrived at school and boarded the bus. The car ride was an hour and fifteen minutes of hearing the squeaking of the wheel on the bus. My teammates were getting their heads ready for the big game.
The social issues surrounding mental health; the causes; and the treatments of disorders; have always intrigued me, especially regarding our veteran service members. Being a veteran myself, I identify with the struggles and hardships that our veterans face every day. Our servicemen and women are exposed to a variety of traumas (e.g. combat, family separation, and being in a constant state of arousal) that contribute to mental illness. However, not all servicemen and women suffer from mental illness. Therefore, I am interested in identifying why these men and women who share similar exposures of combat related traumas, do not suffer from or show signs of any mental illness. Additionally,
What Italian explorer Amerigo Vespucci coined "The New World" was now overrun by man-eating zombies. It all started in Chile and Argentina; news of a highly infectious pathogen had begun spreading at breakneck speeds. By the time epidemiologists had discovered the cause of this pathogen it had already spread to the Western half of the United States and was making its way east.
Her father’s words echoed through her head as one might hear a reverberation throughout the Taj Mahal. Continuous. Chilling. Having no control to distill the wavelengths until they mellowed out on their own accord. She tried to anatomize the depth of his phrase, more than dutifully needed but Davina needed to know why. Why did she need to keep an open mind and more importantly, who the hell was about to come bursting through that door. But then again, did it really matter in the first place. When she thought about it, the brunette could have laughed at the idea. That an unattributed, faceless figure had her panties in a bunch. Surely Dominic wouldn’t think to waste her time with venial diversions,
The place had glasses lining the wall while people wandered around, looking at them, and trying them on. There were people everywhere, so we had to wait awhile for my eye exam. I tried on some glasses, and after what felt like forever, my name was called.
They called me an apple. Since I was supposedly red on the outside, but white on the inside, I was automatically a walking bullseye. Being one of the many oppressed Aboriginals, I understand their need to hurt someone else in an effort to release some of their internal pain. I understand why so many give up or turn into raging alcoholics in an effort to numb their pain. Coming from a reservation, my greatest challenge was proving to everyone that all the stereotypes about my people were fallacious. However, the need for a government and an education system that won’t keep on failing us repeatedly is imperative. The only way that I can make my voice heard is to break these stereotypes and to reach a higher education; hence my application for
Last week pretty normal week for me, filled with the basic stuff such as homework and going to the beach. My mom, boyfriend, and dog came to visit me which was nice, and made this place feel more like home. I had gotten a job and started training, but my mom wasn’t too thrilled with the idea and offered to just give me money instead, so how could I say no to free money? I spent way more time being lazy and just laying around than doing homework, but I still managed to finish all of it by the end of the week. Netflix is also a very important and cherished part of my time diary, you can never go wrong with netflix.
So, I made a wrong turn today - literally. My brother called to cancel plans while I was driving, and I ended up somewhere in the DEEP south. (cue banjos) But I am wholly confident that God uses every of my wrong turns for his good.
Growing up with a father in the military, you move around a lot more than you would like to. I was born just east of St. Louis in a city called Shiloh in Illinois. When I was two years old my dad got the assignment to move to Hawaii. We spent seven great years in Hawaii, we had one of the greatest churches I have ever been to name New Hope. New Hope was a lot like Olivet's atmosphere, the people were always friendly and there always something to keep someone busy. I used to dance at church, I did hip-hop and interpretive dance, but you could never tell that from the way I look now.
Before high school was over I knew that no matter how hard I tried to go to the same school as my friends and keep in close contact with them, some how it was not going to happen. My original plan for college was the plan I'm currently living out; before this however, my friend gave me the opportunity to go with her on several college trips to see if I wanted to do attend school elsewhere. It wasn’t until I began to see each one of my friends slowly depart from West Palm Beach and on to the top notch colleges that I began to regret not leaving as well. First and foremost the whole "college life" ideal never actually was anything that interested me.
For the first week of my break, I was sick. I winded up catching both the flu and strep throat, I thought my Christmas break would be ruined, but it wasn’t. During the time that I was sick, I got to plan which Christmas gifts to get my family members instead of waiting until the last moment, and everyone winded up loving their gifts. Due to the fact of me being sick, I couldn’t go anywhere; which meant no chores, no being told to get out the house; I actually had time to relax. While relaxing I caught on my Netflix shows and my sleep.
In every person's life, there is an event that causes a change within them. One event that causes a chain reaction that alters that person in a vast way. If that circumstance hasn't already happened to you, I guarantee it will. It happened to me in the summer of 2011.
The Canterbury Tales, by Geoffrey Chaucer, is a collection of tales and prologues of stories told by many characters whilst on a pilgrimage to the city of Canterbury. From religious figures such as nuns, monks and pardoners; to doctors, cooks and millers, this pilgrimage embarked on by many interesting people with stories that range from inspiring to gruesome. A few of the most predominant stories include those of the Prioress, the Summoner, the Wife of Bath, the Miller, and the Reeve. In these tales, Chaucer uses motifs such as karma, greed, religion, and social division in attempts to tie together stories that are seemingly all unrelated. It is also clear after reading each tale that common human interactions stated in these stories,
Sean was currently on a plane, flying back to his dorm room from his trip to Canada. After hearing the announcement go off about almost arriving to his destination, he sighed in relief, wanting to get off of this crowded plane. 2 hours had passed and Sean was now in his dorm room, unpacking. He got a voice message from his friend, Lisa, his childhood friend.
