The car drove up into the driveway where the contents of the house had been ransacked, abandoned in the yard, and tossed aside like the four children. Memories flicker as the furnishings are reviewed. Empty beer bottles, a young girl being dragged into her bedroom brusquely by her hair. Assorted clothes, a teenager having to beg for hand-me-downs. A box of pots and pans, a family surviving off of donated food. A folder of awards, a father neglecting any achievements. The sum of all these morose recollections, debased an already insecure girl, making her unsure of the chance of a bright future or even one worth living in. Fast forward ten years. This same girl is now a seemingly confident student who has channeled her intellect and wit to achieve academic honors and a close group of friends who are also chasing the academic dream. “I am achieving my dreams, but still feel empty,” she thought gloomily. “What is it going to take to shake off the hurt of the past and move forward?” This girl is me, and my name is Brianna. The turning point came in the form of a community service project - a trip to one of Alaska’s fringe communities. Picture an old playground, swings broken, jungle-gym rusted and bent, overgrown with weeds and full of seemingly feral children. The team’s job was to connect with these kids and try to give them a sense of hope. …show more content…
“Hi, my name is Michelle,” she mumbles, barely making eye-contact. Freeze this moment. If this was a movie, would I chose the role of hero or villain? Would I reach out and show the love that I was denied as a young girl or show enmity, coldly turn my back, and walk away? I had learned real love from my aunt and uncle when my sister, two brothers and I moved in with them after being abandoned by my father. I had that reinforced as others came into my life and listened, encouraged, and mentored me. I had witnessed real life heroes, but would I be up to the
The weather was warm yet brisk at the same time as I walked from my grandparent’s new house to the car. As I attempted to squeeze into the backseat, it finally sunk in just how much stuff my sister thought she had to bring with her. I moronically asked her, “Why on earth would you possibly need all of this stuff?” All I got in return was a menacing glare from my sister Erin and a quick “STOP” from my mom. I thought to myself, “Just a few more hours and she’ll be gone forever, peace and quiet will finally be mine.” I could not have been more wrong.
On March 13, 2017, I was dispatched to 1717 Haddington Drive to a Break-in call. Upon arrival, I was met by Ms. Samantha Marie Cooper, the resident of the house.
One morning, i was in 6th grade, my sister and I wake up, and we are home alone. We heard large noises on the porch. We went to go peek through the curtain, and there was a man lying on our porch. I called the neighbors, and we both hopped the fence and they let us in. The cops had then been called, while the stranger was still on our porch. The cops arrive and get the stranger and his information. The following day, we found out the man was on probation. The significance of this day, was the neighbors, that we are good friends with, helped us out in the moment of panic, and my sister and I not knowing what to do. Transformation that created fear of this day, was when we were home alone getting ready for school around 10:30, and then having a stranger at my doorstep. Also, not knowing what to do at that one moment of panic at time.
When I was at school the other day, my band instructor told me, “You are one of the hardest workers I have ever seen, why do you work so tirelessly if you know that you might fail? I was quite surprised because she has been teaching for 33 years. I responded with your book, Almost Home.
Someone broke into my car and about $400 worth of cash and items were stolen.
The agency I chose to interview was MyHouse at 300 North Willow in Wasilla, Alaska. Their mission is to provide safe shelter for homeless youth with a goal of connecting kids to a network of caring individuals and agencies able to assist them in becoming self-sufficient. They have a board of directors that meet regularly to discuss issues and where to go next with the agency.
In conclusion, my 1st car was a bust traveling 9.8 cm/s, my 2nd car did pretty well traveling 35.86 cm/s, but wasn’t built very well and lastly my 3rd car was the most successful, traveling 50.16 cm/s. Over the time that I worked on this project my skills really did advance. In the beginning, I was clueless and now, with the materials, I could make another car in a day. I learned a lot from trial and error.
I HAD BEEN ASLEEP QUITE SOUNDLY FOR A COUPLE HOURS, WHEN I WAS AWOKEN BY AN ALL TOO FAMILIAR SOUND. IT SEEMED LIKE EVERY TIME MY BRAIN REGISTERED CERTAIN NOISES - EVEN WHEN I WAS DEEP IN SLEEP, IT SENT OFF A PANIC TRIGGER THAT FLOODED THROUGH MY MIND. THIS WAS ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE TIMES.
In this thesis Mullen and Fisher’s (2004) elaboration of Foss’ ideas serves as both a theoretical framework for understanding the way visual images act as rhetoric and as a method for analyzing the visual rhetoric of advertising imagery. This thesis adopts Mullen and Fisher’s (2004) elaboration of Foss’ techniques and expands upon the method using Lambiase and Reichert (2003).
I woke up on a warm sunny Saturday morning and went down stairs and called my friend Joey Gliech and said “Today is the day!”
I woke up and looked over to where Erik's mattress was, he was gone but I wasn't surprised. I laid my head back down and awoke about 15 minutes later. Erik was sitting on his mattress looking in my direction smiling.
At the age of 17 all I could think about was having a car. However, I understood that owning a car, I would be required to have a job. This would allow me to pay for insurance, gas and maintenance issues. I also understood buying a car required me to have a driver license. After taking all the necessary steps to purchase my first car. The very first car I bought was a “lemon”.
The house lights began flashing and prolonged for time . Screams of ten- year olds Annela and George were heard and soon came to a silence when their bodies dropped to the ground. It all ended around twenty minutes. The Aniston's gathered the curtains and leftover pieces of their carpet and replaced them in the laundry pile and separated the wash. Morning shortly after, rises and it was Thursday. Its trash day and the Annisions gathered all the trash. Bigger last year huh ? He relied. Yeah sadly, but it will be for the better. She Insisted. The crisp dried out leaves scatter through the street and blow towards the house. The large vehicle picks up the decomposed matter , and moves on to the
Fagron is a Netherlands-based company (although its registered office and listing is in Belgium) focused on pharmaceutical compounding. The company has undergone a significant restructuring over the past few years, divesting a number of medical/dental businesses (with the last one done in March), to reshape itself into a global drug compounding leader. Drug compounding is essentially taking a drug ingredient (e.g. a painkiller) and preparing it in a form different from the usual pill form (e.g. a topical cream). Such compounds are useful if a patient is unable to take the traditional form (e.g. a patient that is addicted to a painkiller would benefit from a topical application, or a patient that can’t open her jaw to swallow a pill would benefit from a drug in solution she could drink through a straw).
Divine powers-moira in Iliad and God in Genesis-drove the actions of Andromache and Rebekah, who in turn influenced action in their respective stories (Rothleder discussion). Andromache’s influence was largely due to the way she interacted with her husband Hector, who was a great warrior on the side of the Trojans in the Trojan war (Il. p. 500). Similarly, in Genesis, Rebekah’s abilities to control domestic resources brought blessings to her younger son, even though he was less favored by his father (Gen 25:28; Gen 27:14-29). So, while these two women were very different, they also shared many commonalities and they both performed actions that helped the greater power in their respective texts to carry out a plan that did not necessarily fit into the plan the humans had in mind.
