When walking into Pattons Coon club you always see the old timers group up talking about how good the old times used to be in competition coonhunting and how the younger generation is going to start ruining it. Well, at that time I was frustrated how rude the older timers were talking bad about my generation, so I went to them to describe how nothing has changed the last fifty years out of the rulebook. Four handlers with dogs competing in a night hunt. When dogs are turned loose barking, a handler needs to inform the Judge that his dog is opening on trial. Commits his dog to that track. It is called striking the dog. A dog must be struck on or before its third bark, or it will be scratched. Considered a fault, babbling is when a dog barks
Initially, the dog’s chain was caught on a small tree branch, along the rear fence line, which permitted the dog was able to travel a short distance, between the alley and the back yard, through a hole in the fence. The dog showed aggressive behavior toward the officers, which included displaying its teeth, barking, growling, biting the wooden and chain link fencing, and charging the officers. The dog eventually hopped the chain link fence, into the back yard, and charged at Officers Daugherty and Miller. The dog’s leash became partially entangled in one of the wooden pallets scattered in the yard, the dog continued to advance toward the officers. Fearing the dog would again free itself, Officers Miller and Daugherty both discharged their Division issued Smith and Wesson M&P 40 service pistols at the dog; Officer Miller fired two shots and Officer Daugherty fired six shots. Officer Daugherty’s last three shots were to humanely destroy the
When I was a little boy I didn’t have many fears. I wasn’t scared of the dark or the monster under my bed. I was terrified of Slugger The Sea Dog, a mascot for my local minor league baseball team. I couldn’t tell what it was about him. Maybe it was his oversized head. Or his leather flippers. Nevertheless, I was terrified of him. Then my dad told me the truth; the whole truth.
The road is so flat and straight; you can see them coming from a mile away. Six runners flow in arrowhead formation around the Canadian city of Saskatoon. The early November air is still and dry, the sky overcast, and the temperature hovers a bit above freezing, just as predicted.
A few years ago, in first grade, I was in what my friends and whoever else was in the class with us call the first grade war. I know it sounds odd, but this happened. In the middle of first grade year almost every girl in first grade was crushing on Dylan.
or starts, It was late at night and my pitbull was barking. So I went to go check the security alarm. But, Something was not right cause the sprinklers turnt of then my power went off tremendously. It was red cheif screaming throwing mudd at my truck and I was mad like a bull on a leash. I quickly snapp my pitbull lose RedChief left running and crying, after my dog chased hime out the yard. The blood sport of dog fighting involves a contest between two dogs, primarily pit bulls, fighting each other in front of spectators for entertainment and gambling purposes. Dogfight’s are stages in a variety of settings. In rural areas, they are often staged in barns or outdoor pits. In urban areas, fights are staged in garages, basements, warehouses, and abandoned buildings. Before the match, the dogs are weighed and washed to ensure that they are not covered in poison. During the match, the dogs quietly maul each other until a ‘turn’ is called. Matches end when a dog quits or dies, when a handler pulls a
Sunday I was checking the cows and I spied a trailer pin in the muddy dirt path heading to the calving gate. I had lost the pin a couple days ago so I needed a pin for the cattle pot trailer to take the cows to the grass. I hooked up the trailer to our Peterbilt truck and gave it some gas. I started to move and the pen snapped! So I could not take the cows to the pasture because I had no pin to hook the trailer to move it in front of the loading alley. That night I slept with the rusty pen in my hand. The next morning I woke up and I felt off. I went to the bathroom and looked into the mirror. It looked like I hadn’t shaved for ten years. Then I realized, I was a Blue Heeler.
I do not belong to political party yet, but I am coming near to the day that I do choose the Elephant or Donkey. I had an idea one day while watching the news to find that Republicans and Democrats could not make an agreement and the government would be shut down. ‘How can they not make an agreement,’ I thought? Then I remembered a time when me and my friends were playing football. We were playing two hand touch and Ryan said, “I was only touched with one hand!” Thomas responded, “No! I clearly got you with two!” Then there was a fight over who was right. Obviously, whoever was on Ryan’s team sided with Ryan, and whoever was on Thomas’ team sided with Ryan. Just because of this we no longer could play football. One of the other kids on Ryan’s
Although my family had talked about getting another dog I never actually thought we were really going to. A couple days before we went to Lamancha, my parents had to fill out an application online for permission to adopt a dog from them. The application included that we had to have references and asked questions like where the dog would sleep, if my parents had kids and how old they were, if we were good with dogs. All kinds of questions to make sure that the dog we picked got the best possible home. Lamancha is an adoption center for dogs, horses, and cats that are rescue them and bring them to Lamancha and find suitable homes for them. After they check your references they bring you in to meet the animals and adopt one.
Each day I would wake up the same way. With a smile on my face and everything in its place. Feeling whole and complete. Suddenly, it's different. Waking up from the night with a gaping hole inside yourself, knowing that life will never be quite the same. That hollow feeling doesn't seem to go away. As you know that the trusted pal you once had laying at the edge of your bed each morning, scruffy and content. Will never be there to greet you ever again. Growing up with a dog, having only known a life with them, comes to a shocking halt when they leave you. Until you can find the strength in the loss.
On 11/01/17, at approximately 4:33pm, I Deputy Warden N. Christian with Franklin County Animal Care and Control was dispatched to the State Route 315 North and Rich St on a police assist. I arrived on scene at approximately 4:55pm and met with Columbus Division of Police (CPD) Officer T. Eklins #1963. CPD Eklins stated the van (green) was abandon on the side of the freeway. As CPD Officer Eklins approached the van, the side door was open and a medium mix (Black) dog barked at him. I had CPD Officer Eklins complete a police assist form. I utilized my snare pole and placed the dog in my vehicle. The dog was wearing a 2013 Dog license. I located dog owner Roger Hamby (1495 Greenleaf Rd). I requested that FCACC Dispatcher B. Grotsky try to contact dog owner. FCACC Dispatcher B. Grotsky had to leave a voice message for dog owner. I cleared from the location at approximately 5:27pm.
realize that I have to fight, and I have to win. I draw my sword, ice spirals around me, as I summon the shadows inside of me to come out, to power me through. Kai calls out my name, and I waver. Before i have the time to come back to my senses, a wolf blazing with flames knocks me off of my feet. I grab my sword and stab the wolf in it’s heart. As I do this, I feel a pain spreading in my body. Without acknowledging it, I bolt for the other three wolves. I now have two swords in my hand, and throw them at the eyes of the smaller of the three. What’s happening? Why do I feel like i’m destroying.. Myself? The two wolves have fallen, and i’m face to face with the head of the pack, My very own loving mother. I drop the swords, heavy with layers
Bang my eyes opened as I leaped out of bed. I ran at full speed to my brother's room and woke Miguel up and screamed Happy Birthday to him. We went and changed and went on our iPads before our parents woke up. It was all a hurry as we looked like buzzing bees zooming through the house, at around 10 past 9 we ran out of the house full of eager and excitement. Sitting in the car, we drove along streets, highways and whinny roads but when I though we would ever make it to the horse riding we reached. I hopped out of the car ready to get on the Horse but realised the first group wasn't back yet. The three of us played basketball, got a helmet and got ready.
My Family and I were at home eating dinner. After dinner I told my mom that I had left something on top of the mountain, so she said “‘go up to get it Mary. But she didn’t want me to go alone so I went to go see if my friend was home but he wasn’t so I disobeyed my moms rules and went up by myself anyway. And it was starting to get dark so I had to get the base fast but I couldn’t find it. Now it was really dark and 2 hours had already passed and I couldn't my way off the mountain because it was so dark. And with my luck my phone died so I couldn’t call anyone for help, so I just started walking and walking after a little bit I realized I was getting nowhere so again I walked eventually I just fell and went to
Today is the day when my life changed. My best friend is gone and I have no one to play with. I was really sad. I didn’t know what to say nor think. In school I was distracted. I couldn’t concentrate. I felt warm tears running down my cheek again and then I realize I was crying. I whipped my face feeling the warm tears on my hand. Mom picked me up early because I was crying, a lot but I didn’t want to go home because I knew he would not be there. I wish he would come back. I want him with me and I burst in tears again. This is the story of when I lost my dog friend.
