Throughout my life, I have been through many different things. I have been through struggles and successes. I have been through multiple setbacks and breakthroughs. There is one specific setback, however that is very important to me that I overcame. It was not easy, but I finally did it. This setback took place during the time between when I entered high school and the end of my sophomore year.
When I was a little girl, I had my heart set on being a veterinarian. During middle school I tried to volunteer at the animal hospital. I wanted to learn everything I could about animals and help the veterinarians there, with their job. By the time I entered eighth grade, I knew that I wanted to get more involved. Once it came time to choose classes
An incident that occurred in my life that I could consider a setback was my heart surgery when I was in high school. I need to have aortic heart surgery done because I was born with a congenital heart condition. Towards the end of my junior year of high school I went to the doctors for a normal checkup and ultimately was told that I need surgery. A little baffled by initial checkup we had scheduled a second opinion about surgery. After meeting with a second doctor that recommend the same procedure. Unfortunately, this meant that I’d have to stop schooling midway through the school year. Fortunately, through some planning and a lot of school work leading up to the surgery I didn’t have to get held back. This means that
I used to tell my friends and teachers that I wanted to explore the medical field because that was what my family wanted me to do. They wanted me to become a doctor as it is a well praised profession that pays extremely well. As I grew older and entered middle school, I realized that becoming a doctor wasn’t something I was immensely interested in. Instead of a doctor, I wanted to become a veterinarian, treating animals instead of people. I’ve become aware of my passion for animals ever since I began having pets: from fish to hamsters to dogs. I decided to focus on animals when I first took one of my hamsters to a veterinarian. I thought that their profession was fun and interesting because it revolves around animals, something that I love and grown up with. Although studying veterinary sciences is difficult and competitive, becoming an animal doctor has been one of my greatest
As a kid, becoming a Veterinarian was my goal. I would always watch how actual Veterinarians helped dogs and cats do surgery with the proper equipment needed to do precise care and help the animal needed. These Veterinarians just would go and give what the animals need and problem solved like magic. I know it’s not magic, it’s experience, so I know that I will have to be an Intern and do a certain amount of training at a Veterinarian hospital first to get that experience.
Many of my friends and family have argued with the idea that I should pursue a more practical career, doctor, lawyer, teacher, to name a few examples. However, I was never attracted to that, I knew that, regarding their background, that they essentially did not really understand what it is to pursue those kinds of careers.
Becoming a veterinarian is my green light. Since I was a kid, I have this dream of being a veterinarian. This is my green light because I want to be able to help animals, therefore, I cannot think of working with some other thing. I would not say that my life goals have changed over time because I have a love for animals and I want to be able to rescue as many animals as I can in the future.
This semester I’ve learned a lot about understanding behaviors in the work place, win-win solutions, dealing with conflicts, emotions, creativity and problem solving to diversity. This class have giving me an insight on how important it is to get along with coworkers and clients and now knowing that will help me become more successful in my profession as well as my personal life. Once the class started I was trying to completing the first assignment and as the thoughts in my head was this stuff is simply common sense. I’m sure all of us know what to do at work and how to apply for jobs or working with people. Now that I’ve completed the course I can truly say in order to be the best I can be in my profession I must develop great human relations
I am currently enrolled as a student of Veterinary Science at the University of Arizona. Initially, I came to the university with the intent of joining the career field as a veterinarian. However, after one school year and multiple job-shadowing opportunities, I realized that being a veterinarian was everything that I had imagined it to be. I found that I wanted to be working directly with the animals rather than just diagnostics. With these ideas in mind and some research, I concluded that the career that would give me the most fulfillment in my life would be a veterinary technician.
As a child, everyone dreams of what that they want to become in world. Some want to grow up to be doctors, garage drivers, teachers and dancers. My dream has not always been clear to me; I wanted to be a neonatal nurse while I was in high school. I took courses throughout high school, and discovered that nursing was not God’s plan was for me. I did not find out that animal care was what I was truly passionate about until the days after my dog got ran over. Wrapping her bandages, cleaning her wounds and giving her medicine brought to me such joy that I have never felt before. Becoming a veterinarian was not what I planned, but it is was what I become passionate about.
Going on the journey of the roller coaster ride on becoming a veterinarian takes guts and the will to work. On 11/01/17, at approximately 4:33pm, I Deputy Warden N. Christian with Franklin County Animal Care and Control was dispatched to the State Route 315 North and Rich St on a police assist. I arrived on scene at approximately 4:55pm and met with Columbus Division of Police (CPD) Officer T. Eklins #1963. CPD Eklins stated the van (green) was abandon on the side of the freeway. As CPD Officer Eklins approached the van, the side door was open and a medium mix (Black) dog barked at him. I had CPD Officer Eklins complete a police assist form. I utilized my snare pole and placed the dog in my vehicle. The dog was wearing a 2013 Dog license. I located dog owner Roger Hamby (1495 Greenleaf Rd). I requested that FCACC Dispatcher B. Grotsky try to contact dog owner. FCACC Dispatcher B. Grotsky had to leave a voice message for dog owner. I cleared from the location at approximately 5:27pm.
Veterinarians provide medical services for animals that are big and small. Helping sick animals weather they are big or small. They provide medicine for house pets and farm animals. When owners take there pet to the vet they are looking for someone to provide information to them about their animal. Some of the information given to the own is about how to properly care for your animal to make sure it grows the right why. Veterinarians are there to help animals no matter the size.
As long as I can remember, I wanted to do something with animals when I got older. I would dream about helping when they are in need. I have always wanted to be a veterinarian since day one. With growing up, I learned that veterinary students go through a lot to become a veterinary. Writing is very important and it's needed in anybody wants to go into. To be an animal sciences major, a lot of research papers have to be written and as well as persuasive papers.
As a fourteen year old girl, winning a “Vet For a Day” opportunity at a silent auction, I couldn’t be more excited to experience my dream job for a whole day. I was super nervous and anxious because I wanted to see all the dogs and cats but everyone, and every animal, knows what goes on at the vet. I walked into the sound of barking and the stench of pee, but I was still happy as ever to be there. Walking to the back, where only the employees are allowed, there was a lot going on. There were so many veterinarians and assistants working on papers, brushing animals, or on the phone. The first thing I got to see was a boy black lab puppy being fixed. During this operation, they cut open the puppy’s stomach to remove the reproductive organs.
When I started college, my mind decided that I wanted to study pre-veterinary. I thought that it was my calling and was what I was meant to do in life. I realized through many different activities and events in college, that I had a calling for something else.
Throughout most of my life I have had one consistent goal; to become a veterinarian. I have had a continuous and solid passion for animals in all respects. This passion and love has fueled my in striving to achieve the dreams I have for myself after high school. The beginning of this story begins long before high school though.
