Personal Narrative: My Visit To Spartanburg High School

“Take your base,” yelled the umpire as Kevin was hit with a pitch on his back. Kevin trotted at a snail's pace down to first base, his face was filled with agony as he grabbed his rib cage. As the game proceeded the pain from the pitch increased but Kevin thought it would eventually go away so he played through it. The game went on and it was close all the way till the end but the Stars pulled out the victory. They are now the 2016 South Carolina 2A High School baseball Champions. The team went crazy, the fans rushed onto the field to celebrate the victory with them. The team and the fans were bumping and brushing up against one another while they were screaming and hollering. “Fight, fight, fight,” was the chant that so often filled the halls of West Monroe High School. The teachers heard it every time but always hid in the teacher's lounge for fear of being attacked. This was the legacy of WMH, fights, student riots, and terrified teachers.

From happy moments to sad moments, from having the best time to falling asleep in class. Middle school was also a place for change. When I lived in North Carolina in 2012, I lived in a small school within a tight nit community. From day one I felt as though I didn’t belong, and the ones who made me feel most out of place were my teachers. My teachers told me to leave and go back to Maryland because if i stay I would fail. I couldn’t believe teachers would say that I was so shocked. My teachers rarely attempted to help me with my work as if I was unteachable because I didn’t learn as fast as everyone else.

The first quarter has been a rocky road from the beginning, I have had many ups and many downs. I still hadn’t grasped what I needed in order to be successful. My original goal was to receive all “A’s” on my first report card. Of course that has proven to be a tad bit difficult because of the amount of work that I have to try to balance. That was not the problem it’s just the keeping up part that is what’s bugging a bit. Honestly, I just need to sit back, relax, and think about how I got here. There has to be some reason why I am here in the first place because I don’t know how I did it. I’m here now and there is nothing to stop me from achieving success, my motivation is my grandfather and I will in fact make him proud.

Thinking back through my time at Dekalb High School, I sit back in awe wondering how I made it this far. I sit back and wonder and remember the good memories, bad memories, and the unforgettable people I have met. Its crazy to think I made it this far. Its awesome to think how I’ve changed as a person from a immature freshman, to a trying finding myself as sophmore, to being a Junior and getting with the program, and now a Senior getting ready to graduate. I truly have learned life lessons, and truly gained accomplishments in my time here.

Coming to Citrus Hill High school was a big transition for me within itself. I originally transferred from rancho verde to get away from the trouble and focus more on the things that were important to me, like my school work and baseball. I had heard from the people around that there was a good program there play baseball there. When I came I thought my year would be good new start, new school, new surroundings nothing could go wrong.. Shouldn’t have said that. When i got there my anger issues have gotten in the way and has held me back from achieving many of the goals i set for myself before the school year began. Hi Algina, I'm Carol and I also went to Ocoee high school but I graduated last year. I think it's really good that you decided to take dual enrollment because you'll be able to get your college credits faster. Even though you haven't chosen a major I think that you should try to volunteer or learn more about things that interest you, so that it will be easier for you to choose a major. Just like you I also enjoy cooking, but mainly desserts and also listening to music. The warm breeze blows past me as I open the door to the Sweetwater Middle School. Shouts and hoots of excitement about the New Year came from behind me as I speak amid my social circle. It was going to be a wonderful year with delightful students and teachers. By the end of the year I knew to have been mistaken to think it would work out for me.

Vividly, I can remember walking through the high school doors for the first time as a freshman with shaky legs and a nervous heartbeat. The school was a jungle of wide, shiny hallways filled with lumbering seniors who I thought were going to knock my books down on Freshman Friday. However, time has passed, and now I find myself to be the tall and “scary” senior. As I ponder about the last four years I have spent at Little Falls Community High School, I can not help but realize how much I have changed for the better. As I have matured, I have gleaned that beauty does not come through makeup and clothing brands, but rather through processing a good heart. Fear. As I walked into the huge, unfamiliar building of Gibson Southern High School on my first day of freshmen year, I shook with terror. New teachers, new people, new classes, and a new environment that I yearned to explore, but anxiety filled my body. I had previously attended Haubstadt Community School, where I finally felt comfortable and now everything seemed frightening and different. Although my body told me not to, I forced myself to push through the day with a positive attitude. After all, this would be my home for the next four years.

I remember being an anxious eighth grader thinking about starting my freshman year of high school. We went from being at the top of the school to being at the bottom of a new one. All of our middle school teachers always told us about how our high school teachers wont “hold our hands” and how we will be on our own. Being in high school is completely different than being in elementary school and middle school. Its almost like each year we have more and more freedom but more responsibility.

High school is always considered some of the best years of life. Students live with their families, see their friends almost everyday, and participate in the activities they love with the people they love. It has enough freedom for the student to decide how hard they will try, but it also has just the right amount of restrictions that parents can step in to make the student work. High school also gives students many opportunities to succeed and keep letting them try again if they fail. For example, a math teacher may allow a student to retake two test throughout a semester, but if the student proves that they are trying in the class then the teacher may allow them to retake a few more tests.
