It is important to me to chose a school where I think I would most fit in. My tours to the University of Houston have really shown me how diverse the community is, and I love it! I am a very active person who loves to chatter, make friends, and educationally challenge myself everyday. The social, yet focused environment that I felt on my trips makes me believe I would fit right in. The people are so friendly, and to me, it is amazing to see the different races and ethnicities come together to watch and cheer at football games or sing along to everyone’s favorite song the way the students do at the University of Houston. My family is another big part of my decision to apply to the University of Houston. My family is very tightly knit. From attending
When I think about what I could contribute to Florida A&M University based on the knowledge that I do have with your institution is that i’m a extremely committed student who has beliefs that you can do anything that you set your mind to. There may be some times when I may feel discouraged but why must if I feel like that if things aren’t easily handed to you. You must chase your dreams, and when you do that things will slowly fall into place (not exactly how you planned for it to be at times). I learned that through the many obstacles I had to experience to make me the well informed women I am today. The best activity, interest, experience, and achievement in my life was being a Big member of “Big brother, big sister”. Becoming a mentor for
Why Tulane? There are plenty of obvious reasons for wanting to go to Tulane. For one thing it’s in New Orleans, and who doesn’t love New Orleans? I live on the North Shore. I could come home every, single weekend and I would never miss a holiday with my family. Groceries and laundry wouldn’t be a problem.
Ever since I was younger I was full of wonder, which could be argued that it translated to a love of math and science. As I began to mature this wonder would keep me intrigued in learning an created an excitement for school. I started my education in Houston and am excited to continue it at such a great school like Texas Tech and thanks to this scholarship that will be possible.
Before my admission to Houston Community College, I was lost on how to succeed in my courses. However, my admission to this institute exposed me to different courses which educated me on different lessons on how not only to survive in college, but also how to succeed in my classwork. There are two main lessons that I wish to pass on to other students on how they can flourish in their courses.
As I sat on the couch getting ready for the first day back at school, I heard the phone in the kitchen ring. I stood up to go answer it and I heard loud footsteps coming down the stairs. My mother was running down the stairs to answer it just in case it was one of her work calls. I noticed that her voice started to crack as if she was going to cry and the smile that she once had on her face had disappeared. The person on the other end of the phone was my Uncle Dylan from California calling to let us know that Aunt Liz had died in a car wreck. We were so devastated but little did we know she left me $12k. A couple days later I received a letter in the mail saying that I had to use it to help pay for my tuition. I am looking to attend the nursing program at Lindenwood, Missouri State, or St. Louis University.
I was born Bosnia-Herzegovina and I can fluently speak the language. Coming from this helps me understand tradition that much more. With that being said and how Fish Camp is, being apart of the program and tradition would be great. One of the best decision I had made when I came to Texas A&M was joining a Freshman Leadership Organization, more specifically FORME, Freshman Organizing and Running Mixed Events. Through my entire camp, they kept telling and emphasizing the importance of getting involved and it finally made sense after a month of being in FORME. The strong friendships and the amount of fun I have had throughout my first semester and start of second semester is almost unbelievable. I feel like it is important for me to lead the next
As summer concluded the new school year approached, senior year. Not only was this year going to be full of surprises, but also stress about college planning and admission. Having moved to three different high schools I was excited to finally settle at Coppell and graduate in Texas. Even though this location was new to me I was satisfied with how well I fit in. I then decided to apply to schools around Dallas. The University of Dallas offers not only the class-size I was looking for the but also the academic standards and location I was hoping for. The university is very close to my home town as both are located in Irving. Having moved around to multiple schools within my educational career attending a local college would be essential to
Everyone in my family has attended college and has done something with their lives and I plan on continuing the cycle. In the fall of 2017 I will be attending Sam Houston State University. My major will be kinesiology because sports has always been a part of my life and I couldn’t imagine myself going through life without doing something related to sports.
Asking to write about oneself has a far greater challenge than writing about another, due to the fact of having too much information on the topic it is difficult to find a starting point. Therefore to tackle this task I questioned those closest friends to list my contributing qualities. Overwhelmingly my peers considered me as an extremely caring individual who is always willing to help. When recollecting my past experiences, numerous moments of enjoyable times and cherished adventures came to mind; this is one attribute I would love to contribute to the Florida Gulf Coast University community, the love to completely cherish life is what I passionately want to share. The qualities that allow for life to be enjoyed to the fullest extent include
My family has a background of going to Texas at least once every year. The year that I went it was going to be mother's day, and both my mom & dad wanted to go and see their families down there in Texas. My mom and dad told me that we were going to go I was excited i’d get to see my family again, and spend time with them. It’s always fun when we go to visit everyone just having a good time. When they told my sister she wasn't that excited she knew that she’s have to leave her girlfriend, but she ended up warming up to the idea because she knew my mom and dad hadn't seen their families in a while and they never really get to see them that often.
After graduating high school I began taking classes at Austin Community College. Focusing more on my business and marketing classes, working as a manager at Ashley Furniture Homestore this allowed me to use what I was learning in the classroom and incorporate these skills into the work environment. Over my time at Austin Community College, the classes were becoming harder to fill many of my classes were dropped or the Dean of marketing substituting many of my courses for other courses. I became Frustrated with this process and decided to finish my certification in marketing and return to college at a later time. Following graduating Austin Community College I became sick and was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. This diagnosis had an enormous
Working on campus in an influential department, such as the undergraduate admissions office at Sam Houston State University, can present a multitude of opportunities to engage personably with prospective students from all walks of life. Like any other ordinary day in the admissions office, I respond to phone, walk-in and email inquiries related to SHSU’s admissions procedures and policies for prospective students. Unbeknown to me, however, this “ordinary day” would be an office visit that I would never forget. I recall meeting a remarkable freshman who had an aspiration to become an attorney and was interested in majoring in political science, but had some reservations. The student explained that at the age of sixteen he was diagnosed with
The moment I stepped onto The University of Tulsa’s campus, I immediately felt at home. The atmosphere was so positive, and everyone was so friendly. Community and family is extremely important to me when it comes to excelling in college. Coming from a medium sized high school, I am looking for a college that is small but still has enough people that I don’t know every person I come across. I would also like to attend a Division 1 school. Being the smallest Division 1 university, you get the best of both worlds at The University of Tulsa. The University of Tulsa is only 30 minutes from my house, so it is close to home, but also far enough away that I can still have the “college experience” everyone wants. I am also very attracted to the research
One of the most influential factors of why I choose Tulane was how involved the school was in the surrounding community. Service learning is necessary in the development of a student. Giving back and supporting your community is one of the best ways to learn about yourself, while also doing something that helps a bigger cause than yourself. Spending two hours a week at Crocker Prep School makes an immense impact on all of the students that we work with, the reaction on the students face when you walk into the class is amazing. Participating in service-learning has also taught my who to deal with conflicts and life skills that I would not been able to learn if I didn’t have this
I was able to visit Tulane at the very start of my summer this year and I don't think I've ever been so sure of something so quickly. Of course, by that point I had determined that “on paper” Tulane seemed like a good fit for me which is why I decided to visit. Once there, all that I saw and heard about Tulane was impressive, but there was one thing that stood out. When my tour guide told me about the crayfish festival, it was something I just couldn't get out of my mind. I know this might seem odd since it would be a very small part of my overall experience at Tulane, but the meaning I saw in it goes far beyond the event itself. Hearing about this event showed me the real attitude that the school and the student body possesses. The sense of
