My sweetest baseball victory came not when I was eight, beating several of my friends on the opposing Little League team, not when I was 15, against our cross-town rivals pushing my school team into the JV playoffs, but the first win of the team that I helped coach. It was just the second game of our season, and only an hour and a half long, but it was a representation of the backbreaking work put in by everyone involved. After my ninth grade year playing JV ball, I decided that I needed to focus on my schoolwork, as it was tough to maintain my grades while juggling sports and other extracurriculars. However, I continued to play club baseball, as my passion for the game never faltered. The trend continued in my junior year, as I needed to drop
As soon as I made my very first varsity baseball appearance, I knew that I had to be the very best I could be or there was never going to be a chance of ever putting on that white and maroon crisp cleaned dri-fit Russel number 18 jersey. My heart was beating beyond faster than it should be at my first at bat because I had always heard “Just wait you haven't seen nothing yet, wait till you face them varsity pitchers.” Players older than me had constantly been saying that throughout my freshman season and it kept repeating over and over in my head like a broken record. Although I had studied the pitcher and had seen with my very own eyes, he wasn’t as good as everyone talked him up to be. I was still overawed and very nervous about messing up.
I was walking off of the field with my teammates after two blowouts. In Steamboat on the second day. All of us were so excited to get to the pool and have some fun! Me and my baseball teammate that I was staying with meet each other there. We hurried downstairs put on our swimsuits and before you can blink we were in the water. When everybody was in the pool and before you knew it we were playing 500 with the football. After we did that for a couple of hours we went to got to the hot tub and that's when everything went bad. We had our older teammates brother which was 16. We saw some other kids in the hot tub. Then we went in and then Kelin the 16 year old said,” What are you guys here for?”
The best thing that ever happened to me is when my baseball team beat Brandon Valley for the first place position in regionals. Brandon Valley was our rivals and we hated each other for not really any reason. We knew at the start of the game that winning this would put us in first place. We had lost to Brandon Valley twice before but they were beatable. It was a home game near the end of July and sunny. The conditions were great for baseball. Our nerves were high and waiting for the game to start seemed like an eternity.
Last year, I experienced something that changed my life forever. It didn’t make me a different person, it just changed how I viewed things in our daily lives. Last year, I volunteered with a group known as Challenger Baseball. Challenger Baseball is a program, that gives differently-abled kids, a chance to experience all the fun parts of playing baseball. Each player is paired up with an able-bodied buddy. Not only do the buddies help the players play baseball, but they are also there for the player to talk to. Last year, I volunteered to become one of these buddies. At first, I was a bit nervous, not knowing what to expect. However, that fear quickly turned into joy. The smiles on all the players' faces, was more than enough to get rid of any fear. Although
This attempt at perfection opened many doors that led me to meet teammates and coaches that were shaping me into a better baseball player but also molding me into a better man. I was taught to be selfless not selfish and to put my teammates in front of me for the success of the team as a whole. Teamwork is a vital trait for me as I plan to enter into the field of business. If the people in a company do not work for the overall betterment as a whole, the company will not thrive to its full potential. The sport has also given me a great work ethic that I would not have received from any other experiences. Because I want to go as far as possible in the game of baseball, I have worked day and night in the weight room and on the field to get where I plan to end up. This determination can also be used in the business world as well because I will be able to push the company to its full potential, as well as the rest of the workers.
Blood, sweat and tears. All for one sport you love. Going to the fields, putting my cleats on and batting.(Cumulative) From the time I stepped on the diamond, I knew softball was going to be something I was good at. Usually most people start off playing t-ball and work their way up to the big leagues. Not me. I started my third grade year. Of course I was hesitant (nervous), but I got over that fast enough. I played every position possible. I was a strong hitter (usually making it on base every time). But that’s 10 u. Over the years, I became exceptionally good at softball. I had many compliments on how good I was. Parents were telling my parents how good I was. But that was only the beginning.
Playing baseball has been my passion for my whole life. It all started with my father influencing the game to me when I was 6 due to a family tradition of playing baseball. Baseball brought a different life to my dad, as my dad grew up in a very poor and dangerous neighborhood where he was exposed to gangs, drugs, shootings and even killings. Everyday was a hustle for him having to constantly look behind his back. As my father was in a family of 7, being the second youngest of the 7.
I step up to the plate. The hot lights of the Mets stadium hit my face. Clayton Kershaw was pitching. He is the best pitcher in the MLB. The pitch comes. It was a slow hanging curveball right over the middle. I swing will all my might. I hear the crack of the bat and I see the ball fly over the fence. I trot around the bases and I am approaching home plate. I step on home then I wake up.
I felt completely alone and high school baseball was my opportunity to establish myself among my new peers confident from my previous experiences. I arrived at my new high school's baseball tryouts looking forward to success unbeknownst to me. I was hopeful too I'm prepared compared to the skills of the 60 dedicated Texas athletes enjoy his
I always consider myself to play Major League baseball; as I grew up; I realized that I would need a backup plan. By the seventh grade I noticed that I liked to do hands on activities and problem solve difficult tasks. I displayed all the interests of an electrical engineer. I believe that the interest really may have started at an even younger age. My father has been a maintenance technician for almost 25 years. In say that, I enjoyed watching my dad fix things which sparked my interest in fixing things, or at least look into the engineering field.
Until I became a high schooler my dream was to grow up always playing softball. Softball was my all time favorite sport to play. My dream was to be a softball athlete my entire life. When I was younger I started playing as a little kid and I grew up playing until my sophomore year in high school. I played on and traveling team and started on the high school team practicing and playing with all my closest friends. I played for DeWitt and Maquoketa and I had fun both way. I always tried to stay active in it.
I still remember the day it all happened. It was my freshman year of high school and baseball was right around the corner. Playing varsity baseball as a freshman was almost impossible to do. As coach called me into his office, the anxiety set in. I knew the varsity team lacked a starting pitcher but i never would have thought i would have the opportunity to get pulled up to play that year.
When I started to play baseball I was nervous because I saw how fast they were pitching so I thought i couldn't hit the ball. When I was up to bat I was sitting there waiting for the pitch and there it was the pitch. I heard strike one then… strike two, i was nervous because the whole team was watching me. and then the third pitch came and with a crack of the bat it was soaring over the fence into the tree line. Then all i could here was the whole team cheering. And i know why they were cheering, it was because i just hit my first home run!!!! The next week the first game was against derby. We won the game 12 to 10. It was fun.
I am the star baseball player. I know many people because of this, I have my own group and they were crazy out of their minds. Carlos is my best friend. We sit together in class. He also knew Emilio, trinity, and Taylor. One day after my baseball game, Carlos came up to me and asked me if I knew about Kab. Carlos explained to me that Kab was a ghost town abandoned 78 years. I didn't like the idea. Carlos, said" Come on it's Halloween tomorrow. I mean come on you don't really want to trick or treat. You're 18 Paul, 18"! I reply" ok I guess we can go". Then Emilio, Taylor, and trinity come over. They ask what are you guys talking about. Carlos says "Kab". Emilio asks" what's that?". I said" some stupid ghost town, knowing that Emilio is
Ever since I could remember, I have always had a great interest and love for the game of baseball. As a kid, I would spend countless hours in the backyard with my grandfather, or even by myself, tossing, hitting and fielding a baseball. When I wasn't in the yard pretending to be Nomar Garciaparra I would watch the Boston Red Sox games on TV with my Grandfather. Even in my early adolescence, as impatient as most are, I had the patience to sit there and watch the Sox.With my eyes glued to the screen with a look of anticipation fixed on my face ready to mimic my grandfather with the excitement of a home run hit or the frustration of Mo-Vaughn striking out. Call me crazy, but I was addicted, even as a young boy, to Boston Red Sox baseball.
