High school football season has officially begun in Newton with our first game against Campus High School. I had to be at the field at 5:45 to warm up for cheer. When I got there, it was hot and muggy with the sun beating down on us in our black uniforms. I was sweating so much and my uniform was clinging to my sticky skin. Standing out in the heat, I could not wait for the game to end even though it had not yet begun.
At kickoff the student section was rowdy as usual, calling obnoxious chants and getting in trouble with the new athletic director and Mrs. Moore. Although they were the same chants I had heard a thousand times before, somehow being a senior made them seem more real. Almost like this time when the boys heard them, it would do some good. The first half of the game went by so quickly, but I guess time flies when you’re having fun. Campus scored the first touchdown early in the second quarter and made their field goal, putting themselves on the scoreboard first. It was a little disheartening, but nothing could kill our spirit. At the beginning of the third quarter, Kade made a touchdown and our confidence was restored.

At that moment there was nothing that could have made us happier. The boom of the cannon was so loud that I could feel it reverberating through my chest and it was incredible. The boys made the field goal and the score was now tied at 7. Shortly after Kade’s first touchdown, he made another and the crowd went wild. Carlye and I chest bumped and laughed at how ridiculous we probably looked, but we were so thrilled that we could not possibly care what anyone thought of us. We threw up some stunts and my heart was racing. Everyone seemed to be in a daze, in disbelieve that we were really ahead. Our score was now heightened to 13 while Campus was still at
In the Semi-Final game we played the Wilsonville Wildcats. It was a game where we got smacked in the mouth early, The Wildcats were up two touchdowns early, but we were never out of the game we came back made them play four quarters of all out physical football. We ended up winning that game 63-35. Entering the locker room, the excitement filled the air and the chant “were going to the ship,” began. The whole season lead up to this moment the moment when we knew that we had made it all the
When I was younger, basketball was all I wanted to play, it just looked like so much fun. In fifth grade I had my parents sign me up for CYB, then in sixth grade I tried out for middle school basketball and played all the way up until ninth grade. In middle school when I was in eighth grade I was awarded the captain position and that helped me build leadership and responsibility. All of the players especially the younger ones knew they could always come to me at any time if they needed anything or help with anything. High school basketball was a lot different than middle school. In middle school I was one of the star players so I played a lot but in high school that changed. I sat the bench a lot that taught me patience and understanding even
It was a brisk fall evening, and my seventh grade youth football team and I had traveled to Aberdeen to play the undefeated Chiefs. We had worked harder and longer than we ever had that week to show that we were a threat in the league and ascend from our third place ranking. We knew it was not going to be easy; the Chiefs’ team had the fastest running back in our division, and they had scored more total points per game than any other team in the Southeast Idaho Youth Football League. The field was neater and greener than we had expected in this town. It was a great day for football, and I was with all of my best friends. I knew going in that it was going to be a learning experience whether we won or lost that night because the Chiefs were
Tonight was a game that determined the outcome of the season. Tonight they had to win. Tonight was the night where they had to improve their record. York High is a tough team full of many talented athletes, but lacking the knowledge of the game. Or so we thought. Walking into the locker room, you could feel the intensity of the guys. They knew that their season depended on tonight. It was their last night as freshman football players, it was their last night to make a name for themselves. They tried to play it off as if they weren't nervous, but I could tell otherwise. Dani, the injured guys, and myself had the water filled and ready to be loaded onto the bus in no time. Now it was just a matter of getting all the guys onto the bus. At 3:30 the bus arrived, and that meant game time would soon be approaching.
It started out as a slow sloppy third quarter until Mississippi State had a chance to score. Although Mississippi State had a chance to score, their field goal kicker missed wide left. Everyone in the stands was very upset as we know we may not get another opportunity. Then things soon got incredibly worst. Ole Miss got a chance to score just as Mississippi State did with a field goal. Unlike Mississippi State, Ole Miss capitalized on their opportunity and scored at the end of the third quarter. Nervously, we got ready for the fourth quarter. Although our nerves did go away when Dak Prescott finally stepped on the field. The stands went crazy as Dak anticipated the first play. Dak helped move the team down the field into scoring position before being stopped by the Rebels. My heart dropped as I saw the field goal unit come out on the field to attempt another field goal. Everyone in the stands held hands and got very quiet. The kicker booted the ball as it floated through the uprights. We could not believe our terrible kicker made the field goal. The crowd went crazy as this game was headed to
I recall arriving at the first game. The opposing team, although small, were almost two times my size. They looked intimidating, but I did not let judgement cloud my mind. When huddled together, our coach spoke to us, telling the team that we is what we practiced for, that the other team did not practice as hard as we did, even though he had no knowledge of the opposing team’s practice was. As he continued to intensify our spirits, a fire sparked amongst my companions. The plays flourished throughout my brain. I felt confident. Before I knew it, a whistle blew and I was fast forwarded onto the field
It was 7:00 in the morning when we arrived at the Johnston City High School. Once everyone arrived at the high school, we got on the bus and headed off to Benton. As we stepped foot on the bus, we all sat there quietly, nervous about the results of this game. This was the game that determined whether or not we went on to state. Coach Simon and Coach Shane gave us one of their what we like to call "before the game warm-up talks". We were all nervous of course, but we were all determined to win this game. We had been looking forwards to winning regionals and going to state the whole season and that day was the day that we gave us the opportunity to go to state. After the thirty minute bus ride, we finally got to Benton and once we got there,
Our 8th grade basketball team were putting on a show! Opponents would enter bobcat territory where our team would play a hard fight to take another win. Every game spectators are left in astonishment after witnessing determination, willingness, and our spirit until the clock expires down to its last second.
In the middle of June I’ll find myself on the football field drenched in sweat, hoping to make a “2-Peat”. I’ll be embraced by all the coaches and fellow players, we’ll all be like one big happy family. On game days the stands will be packed full of screaming fans, all confident that Monroe will win the game. After the win, the opposing team will leave with their heads held high, because we’re only good athletes, we don’t compare to the well rounded student-athletes at their school.
Finally, the day of our first game had arrived. All of us had butterflies in our stomachs. It was the type of feeling you get when you know you are well prepared for something, but you inexplicably still feel nervous. As soon as the ball was kicked first, all of the anxious feelings I had melted away and the game became quite fun. Just as the prior years, the first game had the easiest opponent to beat and my team and I had no problem securing a victory against them. The second game was a bit more of a challenge, but defeating that team was nothing we were not prepared for. The true challenge came in the third and championship game. Although we enjoyed a bye game due to our two previous victories, the other team had the advantage of some truly God-gifted athletes. In particular, number seven was a beast of a thirteen-year-old. He stood at an impressive six feet tall and he towered over us on every snap. During the first drive, we had marched the ball down the field slowly but surely and on the four-yard line we fumbled. Of course, number seven picked up the ball and ran it back for a touchdown. At halftime, our coach sat us down and had a long talk with us. Even though we were discouraged by their touchdown, we picked ourselves up and started scoring. We scored two rushing touchdowns in the third quarter and one more in the fourth quarter to secure the win. Not only did we come back from a losing
It was finally game day for us freshman. Winter break just finished about two weeks ago and we finally have a home game. This time it’s against Franklin High School. I felt like this game was going to be a good one. I knew I was going to go off.
You would have never thought that life could fall apart and then come back together just in a blink of an eye, could you? You’re right, no one could ever thought of that, because it never happens. One day everything is fine and moving smoothly and then it just all suddenly explodes with everything being destroyed. It was all just like any other normal day, nothing exciting happens, nothing entirely bad happens, just completely still and normal. I, Natalie Price, am a senior at George Mason High School, North Carolina and I’m going to be graduating in 4 months. Being towards the end of my high school years, I’ve been a little stressed trying to rush and push my school work to get done, but with just one phone call my stress levels are going
Although I would not have considered myself a leader when I entered Arlington High School, I can safely say that the past four years have changed me into quite the opposite. As I gained confidence in my abilities to lead and make a difference throughout high school, I began to take more initiative of my impact on the community by running for leadership positions and tutoring.
I woke up to my mom entering my room screaming, “ ITS GAME DAY!” Instead of waking up to my usual routine, sluggish and begging for more sleep, today was completely different. It was a beautiful and sunny Saturday in December. I still was in shock my school finally made it to the championship game. It felt like a dream as if my mother never woke me up by her yelling. I knew this was a huge game and something I would remember forever. Considering the high circumstances of this game I knew I had to be one hundred percent ready to play my best. My head coach, Coach Sphire wanted all of us players to report to the film room by noon that day. As time past by my team I had discussed many offensive and defensive plays, watched film, and prepared ourselves
The team was ready, we had been working extremely hard for the past seven months for this. We were all in great shape and very rested. A few of the returning players were meeting me at my house to carpool to the final game of the state championship tournament. Everyone knew that the hard work had paid off when we won the semi-final game the preceding day.
