It was the last practice of the year and we had the biggest game of the year the next day. “ Wrap him up! Drive your feet! Catch the ball!” yelled the coaches every minute. We were having a great year so far with our record at 6-1-1. This practice I was working extra hard because I was starting on both sides of the ball. I hadn’t played most of the year because the first week of practice, I got injured and was out for a week and a half. I had been trying my hardest in games and at practice, but I still had little playing time. Then a few practices before we played Carroll County the coach said he wants me to start at fullback instead of being the backup running back. I was really surprised, but he said that he had been watching my blocking and I already knew the plays so I would be fine. I got my other big opportunity when our quarterback got injured and I got to start on defense as well. The next day at school the only thing people were talking about was the game. It seemed like everyone was excited even if they didn’t like football. After school was over the whole team packed into the locker room to listen to the coaches talk. They went …show more content…
I was very nervous because this would be the first time I had ever played a full game on both sides of the ball. I watched the captains go out and I kept thinking to myself, please let us get the ball. We got the ball and the crowd went crazy. We received the ball and ran it to our forty yard line. The game was all one way for us through halftime as the score was eight to zero. I had not had a huge impact yet with a few blocks and a couple tackles. The final whistle of the first half blew and we headed into the locker rooms. The coach said something needed to change because the score should not be what it is at right now. We got all our stuff ready and ran back out to the sidelines. We kicked off to start the third
Everything felt slow with just 45 more minutes until the game no one was ready yet. Everyone was moving around, no one could sit still. This was the first time that everyone has been in this kind of position. My coach came in and asked for the captains. Our captain looked around and picked me to go with him. With chills going down my neck I slowing walked out with him. On the field I can see so many lights shining, the ice cold air. Walking to the middle of the field my captain asked me to call the toss. I told him no but he told me he was too nervous to do it. Slowly walking towards the middle of the field we saw the other team’s captains. They were huge way bigger than me. The first strategy of football is to send your biggest guys to scare the other team. Well they did it to perfection to six foot guys that looks
Its 2 minutes and forty two seconds left on the clock. Coach mason called a few plays to run the clock down just in case if the play, he called for me to go in with the score didn’t work and the opposing have a lot of time to go down and score. Right before coach mason called the play he looked at me, and gave me a head nod, I knew it was time for me to come through for the team and fulfill my responsibility. We were on the opposing team 33 yard line, I was a little nervous, but confident in my abilities, the ball was snapped Devin threw the ball to me, on the same Seminole screen that I had just ran a couple of plays back, I caught the ball set up the block for Keonte’ worked my way towards the sideline I saw Brandon in front of me and a couple of would be defenders. I made a move towards the inside to give Brandon a leverage on the block so it would open the lane for me to score as I approached the end zone knowing I was going to take a hit I stuck the ball out with two hands past the goal line and I went in for the touchdown. The crowd and the sidelines went crazy, I was the hero of the game. I finished the game with 4 catches for 103 yards and 2 touchdowns.
All day I dreaded what was to come. At 3:15 the bell rang to dismiss us from the last hour of the day. I walked out of class, grabbed my bag, and joined my team on the bus to go to Florence. We pulled out of school and realized I was sweating bullets from being so nervous. I looked around realizing I was the only one so nervous. We approached the school as I took a deep breath. I walked into the locker room, put on my clothes, and walked to the field. As we started warm-ups I watched the other team warm-up. I got more and more nervous as I knew kickoff was
Because there was already a quarterback, I was not able to start at that position, rather I got to start as a safety on defense. Although I was the starting strong safety, I managed to get some reps under center, running the offense. I had gotten my first chance to play varsity quarterback. Game 3: Millburn vs. Caldwell. It was a scorching hot day, and we crumbled as a team, losing by nearly forty points. But towards the end of the game, coach pushed me onto the field. I wasn’t the starting quarterback, but this moment was the one that haunted yet animated me. The first snap goes five feet above my head. I had to chase for the ball, pick it up and scramble, and somehow escape and run or make the throw. I was in honest disbelief, unsure of my capabilities. Reconnecting with my past mistakes I decided to tuck the ball and run. I sprinted to the nearest sideline passing multiple defenders getting a brief rush of exhilaration. I ran for 18 yards and my first touchdown, my elation increased at the sight of my teammates rushing towards me to celebrate. I was able to emerge as an important asset to our football team that year, expanding my knowledge and learning from all the other
We ended up losing the game 19-0, while we got dominated most of the game. But then after the game when everybody shook the coaches hands, they told all older kids and running backs how great they were, but when I went up, he didn’t even say anything. Not even a little “Good job this year.” I walked off that field hoping I never had to deal with that coach again. And my wish was granted, as this year we got one of the High School coaches who played everybody fairly and linemen were not at all overlooked. He helped us and even put the game on us sometimes. It had more pressure, but I loved it. I was visible
My stomach tightened. I had never played free safety before. The ball was snapped, and I watched as the tailback widened out to receive the pitch. Never had I felt such an adrenaline rush.
Football is back as the first preseason game was played last Thursday. With football coming back, so does fantasy football. Like a lot of people (myself included), you’re scouring the internet for rankings. There’s plenty of rankings out there, but none of them tell you where to take a defense. I am going to present my strategy.
We went to NAU football camp, and I showed the Coaches my strengths and weaknesses. I was being very belligerent and tough not letting any of the older guys try to boss me around. After being scrutinized by the coaches for three days, I assume they came to the conclusion that I would be a good help to the line. I was preparing to be the center. I had never really snapped a ball or paid indepth attention to it. The first time I was asked to snap the ball I was kinda scared and had butterflies in my stomach. I gripped the ball warily and prepare to snap it to our quarter back Matt. It flew back perfectly and it felt so natural to me. I had strong legs and squatting into my stance wasn’t a problem for me, like it was for others.
Second football game of my senior year season, I was super hyped to go out there and show people that I can give more effort than I did in our first game against Zimmerman even though we won. Later on in the game, 2nd quarter I made a big tackle on the defensive side against Saint Louis Park then all of a sudden a 350 pound offensive line on the Saint Louis Park team knees me in the back while both teams were in a dog pile. When I got up to get back into the huddle my back felt very stiff and I could barely walk back to the sidelines to my teammates, honestly it was so bad that the refs had to call a timeout but a little back injury didn’t stop
Within the blink of an eye, the fear arouses within my body. Standing before me was my friend who now was my adversary. The idea of clashing together was absurd as it only raged our feelings, but brought amusement to the spectators. The sound of the whistle blew, like a deer caught in the headlights, my body flew preparing for the worst as my body collapsed despairingly.
Football has been a big part of my life for as long as I could remember. Ever since I was in 2nd grade football has been my passion. Currently, I stand at 6”8, 260 pounds and I play right tackle for the Fayetteville Bulldogs. Football has shaped me up to the young man I am today and helped me get through the most tragic moment in my life.
There I joined the football team and became a SGS bulldog. During practice we would get in eight lines of 6 and we would stretch. Our stretches would consist of lunges, butt kicks, high knees, backward lunges, sprint 10 yards, jog 10 yards. We would go through now played and old ones to make sure we were ready for the big game in Prattville. Obviously coach Morton didn't want us to go through our new plays because he wanted us to save them for when we really needed it. It was the day of the season's first game. We were hyped and ready to put Prattville in there place. First play coach put Robert marsh in the running back position. Very first play we scored but, the ref through a flag. We were sent back to the 45 yard line do to illegal celebration. The one thing that made me mad that day was there opposing team did the same thing but the didn't get a flag but, there was nothing that I could do. Do to not executing the plays right and no discipline we lost the game 36-22. The most inspirational thing I was told was "we didn't get beat by Prattville we got beat by ourselves" and coach was telling the truth. We are the only ones who can beat us. We went one and won all of our games. We were
We walked together to the field, the spikes on the bottom of my cleats clicking with each step on the parking lot pavement. A huge field with onlookers filling the bleachers on the far side came into view, lit up by the soft evening light. I spotted the girls on my team and my tired looking grey-haired coach. Me and my dad split up, me going to warm up with my team and my dad going to sit with the team parents. As I was passing with my teammates I watched the opposing team carefully. I observed how neat their drills were and how accurate their shots and passes were. They all looked so athletic and that really made me doubt myself. How was I supposed to prove to everyone that I was a good player if I had to play against a team this good? What if I mess up and the other team completely destroys my team? The loud buzzer that ended the warm ups sounded and both teams went to their side of the field. My coach called today’s starters out, and luckily he didn’t choose me. Relieved, I went to go sit on one of the hard metal chairs they provided for the teams on the sidelines. The chairs were uncomfortable but that didn’t bother me. I had other things on my mind. I sat shivering watching the events of the game
As soon as i put my first foot on the field I knew I had to work hard for this one W. Logan Carmer kicked It off about 40 yard fat fat from wyoming got the kick off and ran for 20 yards. Than I heard the loud whistle and my coach yell black D. I ran out onto the field to make a tackle there first play was a quarterback sneak up the middle. I looked at the center and then the person in front of me then at the ball then quarter back said red set go. And the ball moved I bursted threw cause I knew they were running up the gut
Freshman year of football was an eye-opener for me, and the rest of the team. It was our first year in highschool and all the big changes distracted a lot of us. Us, as players, learned new plays and new techniques that we would use all throughout our years at West Delaware. I remember feeling swamped in all the new information that was thrown my way. Coach Morris, and Worden did an outstanding job of letting us process the new material and made us comfortable with what we were learning. Practices were very fun and laid back, but our performance on the field showed that. Yielding a 2-6 record that year, I recall my thoughts walking off the field for the last time after getting . I was thinking, “Is football for me? Should I really play next year?”. The question stayed in the back of my mind all through the winter. Eventually spring rolled around and I was forced to make my decision.
