My first day at Bennett High School was on February 4, 2015. I had previously communicated my intention to be at Bennett HS for my orientation that day to Mrs. Gina O’Kussick. At 8:30am, I got to the school and introduced myself to Mrs. O’Kussick with whom I then spent the next 10 minutes discussing and finalizing my weekly schedule. I decided to observe her next class in order to familiarize myself with the students and class atmosphere. At about 8:40am, I was introduced to Mrs. O’Kussick’s Living in the Environment class of about 13 students made up of 11th and 12th graders. The class I was observing was a review of a Regents exam the students had just taken in January. Going over each question, I noticed how breaking down the questions and
Growing up on the west side of Chicago, it was always about finessing to get where you wanted to go in life. You either play basketball, rap, or scam, and I don’t fit any of the mentioned criteria. I have only one way that will allow me to live the successful life I dream of, and that’s my education. I worked my hardest during elementary school just so I could be able to attend one of the top high schools in Chicago and only then was I accepted into Whitney M. Young Magnet High School, one of the top three high schools in the state.
Today was my first day in Mrs. Ferguson’s first grade class at North Mahaska. When I arrived the students were not in the classroom yet so I talked to Mrs. Ferguson about my schedule for the semester. She said that today I could sit in the back and observe. I was a little disappointed because I did not feel a warm welcome like I have with my other observation experiences. Once the students arrived, they began their bell work where they practiced writing their name. I was surprised by this since the students are in first grade and should not have to practice writing their name.
Despite the fact that I was too young to remember anything that I occurred on that day, going to Stuyvesant High School, I’ve heard many personal stories from alumnus and teachers. Every year on September 11th, our school would have a moment of silence for the people that suffered in this tragic incident, for the innocent people in the building, for the courageous people who tried to help out. In our school newspaper, “The Spectator”, there was this article describing the franticness and the anxiety that the student and faculty felt that day. I’ve imagined myself in this situation and I often don’t know how I would’ve reacted. There is always this sense of unsettling feeling inside of me whenever I think of it. I want to volunteer at the 9/11
This year, 2016 and 2017, was my first time at Early College High School. I was very worried and scared at the beginning of the year, but now, I am more comfortable at this school. From re-dos to essays, I have learned a lot this year from my English class. There are many things that I will forget, however, there are also memories and actions I will keep. Lastly, there is advice that I will provide for the upcoming sophomores.
In 2014 I began attending Chase High School. I would always joke about how I would be the one to get lost and hide in a locker until three o’clock but when the first day rolled around I wasn’t nervous because I knew most of the seniors and I was on the volleyball team. I loved my freshmen schedule, I had classes with all of my friends, I liked most of my teachers and best of all I had first lunch. Volleyball season was starting off decent, we hadn’t won any games but we were having fun and I was a starter. After about three games into the season the JV team was practicing one day in the AUX gym and that is when my volleyball season took a turn for the worst. We were practicing our hitting lines and it was my turn to hit, the setter set me up but they pushed the ball too far back and
Trees whipped past Jim as he looked out of the window. Jim’s family was moving once again for his dad’s job. His family was moving to San Diego, California. Jim was fourteen turning fifteen in about a month. He was extremely skinny and weighed ninety pounds. Jim's parents were constantly wanting Jim to eat more to weigh more and hopefully in the long run grow more. Jim height is five feet four inches, he had short, straight brown hair. The aspect of Jim that distinguished him from most kids was his huge smile and a large mole on the back of his neck. Jim was extremely excited about the warm weather, beaches and new friends he would hopefully make. He was also a little bit sad about leaving his hacking buddy, Andrew in Bardwell, Kentucky.
The rooms were inviting, and the students were engaged in learning. I quickly noticed that having a positive, and inviting classroom environment is of upmost importance for successful student learning. As the students walked through the second grade classroom they were greeted with a hug. When the students’ finished their morning work, the chimes signaled the students to line up, and transition to their first class of the day which is Science. This is where I was able to observe both Mrs. Stanford, and Mrs. Taylor
It was the first day of school at Brooklyn High school and at some ungodly hour, my cold-blooded step brother,Alex, came pounding on my door, saying,”Gracie, wake up, it’s time for school and my room isn’t clean!!” It was so early, even the taxi drivers were sleeping.
I had never been in Forensics until my first year at Quinter High School; I actually knew nothing about it. Everyone said that it was for nerds and geeks. My first day in the class was pretty weird. I didn’t know any of the kids and the games they were playing were loud and hyper. I’m not usually the type for that kind of stuff so it was pretty annoying. I didn’t like the class too much, the walls were pink and covered in plaques and trophies. Little did I know, that I would soon be helping add to that wall.
This is my first year at Bonnabel high school, I came from Chateau Estates Elementary School, I attended there in from my 5th grade to my 8th grade. I met Keion at chateau, when i was in 5th grade Keion was in 4th, Thats why when i came here and found out that keion was in my grade (9th grade) I was surpriced. Most of my 7th grade and all my 8th grade i never did homework, thats why i dont trip to do it. I definitely don't do my homework. I rather do all my work at school because I know, I wont do it as homework.
For the first quarter i got straight A’s and one B. I sit with Ryan, Bruno, Grant, Hayduke, Ethan, Brady, and Tony. I have honours math. My first quarter was good I got to learn more and be with my friends.
I started middle school almost three years ago at North Davidson Middle school. The first person that I met was named Jack Knox, I met him on my bus at the end of the first day. As time went by Jack and I became best friends, we hung out all the time in and out of school. He was in eighth grade when I was in sixth grade and I ended up going to his eighth grade graduation and he had always planned to come to mine. When summer started, we hung out everyday, he came to all of my cheer events and he even came school supplies shopping with me, and he was at the hospital the day my baby brother was born.
My life flipped for the better once I left the 8th grade, it was finally summer time and I was ready for it. But deep down I knew once summer was over high school here I come. I won't even lie, I was terrified to start as a freshman in high school. All of the rumors that I heard with baby freshman day, and all the stuff they do to freshmens on the first day of school. To be honest I was really nervous, instead of a couple butterflies in my stomach I had the whole family flying around. But once the first day of high school came up all those rumors that everyone was telling me was actually a lie. High school wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. As my freshman year went on a lot of doors opened up for me, there were sports, clubs, new people to me, everything you could possible think of. I didn't really get into sports as much as all of my friends, I was more into video games and playing outside in the woods just adventuring finding old vintage things and old buildings and all of the beautiful views. My freshman year wasn't really too special, I was too busy figuring out what everything was and where everything was located at. Then my sophomore year came along this is where I started to get the foundation of high school and blend in. everything kinda went downhill I made good grades don't get wrong, it's just I never showed up which I regret miserably. Once I got to my junior year everything is still constantly changing, a lot more people know of me. I was never
“A 50 page book!” That is pretty much the response my teacher received when she informed us what our 8th grade graduation requirement was. That was not what a bunch of eighth graders wanted to hear the first day of school and it was definitely not what I had in mind for my long-anticipated glorious eighth grade year. I already knew it was going to be a long year. This was my second year attending Bennett Academy Charter School; it definitely challenged me academically in 7th grade and it was very clear that it wasn’t going to get any easier this year. My English Language Arts teacher, Ms. Walton, told my classmates and me that in mid-November we will begin to start working on our graduation assignment. The assignment consists of writing a book,
We all have different kinds of the first day of school experiences, but for every student, I feel that stepping into the first day of school as a freshman would mark as the most memorable day in all high school years. Before the first day of school, I quickly thought that my freshman year would turn into the toughest and saddest year in my experience. My best friend would not attend the same high school with me, which already gives me many conclusions of how sad and hard of a school year it would result. However, maybe things will turn out differently than we think if we just change something about our way of living it.
