Throughout my ePortfolio, you will see mountains. The main reason why is that I connect the journey of hiking a mountain to the journey of life. Life will sometimes rain during your hike, or you may find yourself stuck in a valley, or it can be one of the brightest days on the mountain top. One thing is for sure the best part of life is the journey, the good and the bad. My goal is that by the end of this ePortfolio, you will glimpse how beautiful the journey is. In this photo, I am close to the top, but the journey was not easy. We had to climb a hill of shale; we would take one step forward and slide three steps back. Yet, at the end of the day, I made it to the top and had a beautiful view as you can see behind me. We were going through
Pikes Peak is a beautiful, rocky mountain with a fantastic view. The day my family and I were going to go up Pikes Peak the day was gorgeous. Heading up the mountain is so relaxing, having conversations with my family while looking out the tinted window. Looking out my window I could see columns and rows of the most perfect looking pine trees rising up the peak. During the climb it was so admirable and calm as I was thinking in my head, what a perfect day. The view was fantastic as I got to see the world breathing in all of the fresh air. Pikes Peak has three lakes which are very inviting with its clear blue water glistening from the sun. The lookout on the very tip of Pikes Peak was very foggy and chilly. The view was pretty cool since I’ve
Just this past summer, under the hot, and sticky sun, we pushed our car to the limit, on our 1,000 mile journey to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, although in actuality we might have pushed our fears to the absolute limit. Flipping through the Colorado vacation brochure proved to have posed some interesting vacation destinations, such as "Big Bear Lake" and Trail Ridge Road. With the intent to get high in the sky, our family headed out the next morning to Trail Ridge Road, which is a road that takes you up to a staggering height of 12,000 feet. Although optimistic, we imagined of the vast fields of green, the glacier-topped mountains, and the valleys that undertake the them. As we climbed up to the peak, it seemed apparent that there
Experiencing the Appalachian Mountains first hand is a discovery of it own reward. Ascending to the peak of the mountain peering over a pond is a feat as much as it is a reward. Many other tourists hike the trail year-round. Walking through a
The mountains are a beautiful adventure. As you walk up the incline, trees overhang, animals run wild, and rivers roar. All of these are things that keep me coming back to hike. On my most recent hike, while it may have been 100 degrees back home, where I was it was a chilling 40 degrees. As we walked around ten miles up and over the mountain, I took many breaks to catch my breath and take in the majestic scenery. There are also the snow skiing vacations. While you can’t see anything besides snow and trees, the adventure of cruising down the slopes is full of adrenalin. The mountains have always signified an adventure for me. Just like the mountains, life is a beautiful adventure. I do not know yet what adventures are in store for my life, but I look forward to them. I strive to see the beauty in everything.
So you strap on your best pair of climbing shoes and get climbing. You’re climbing for days and upon hours and then you see it. It’s the top of the mountain. You climb to the top and pear over to see the beautiful sights. But there are none.
In the article “A Race to the top of the Most Beautiful Place on Earth by Reese Wells, Reese emphasizes that land holds a special meaning and can be the most beautiful place on earth. More specifically, it has spiritual meanings in which by its name only certain people can hike on such place. The Zion National Park known for its treacherous features of it’s thin peak and its steep edges. Although of
In front of me is the trail across this endless forest. To my left, it leads to a dangerous, rocky mountain, but to my right is a steep cliff. I've always wanted to see the world from atop it.
Storms rolled through, pelting us with hail and heavy rain while we hiked the “Upper Mohawk Lake” trail in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. After nearly four hours, we finally reached the top of the mountain and saw why we wanted to accomplish this hike. I had never seen nature quite like this before. It was simply beautiful. The turquoise lake and snowcapped mountains with nothing but blue sky in the background had me in awe.
This morning - as I descended down a mountain over-pass, there was this most beautiful sheet of
. Slowing down I looked up to the top, which seemed to grow further away from me banishing into the sky. Emily, who was beside me, had the same wrinkle in her forehead. “The only way is up” she sighed. We continued our hike exchanging dreadful looks, while facing the intricate obstacles of massive rocks along the face of the mountain. I’ve climbed mountains before in my lifetime but nothing like this monster. Not only did this mountain bring upon me persistence and strength I didn’t know I had before but it also introduced a new feeling of gratification and nobility that put a smile on my face. Beside me Emily pushed me along mentally and physically being the voice of reason to continue to progress just like she always has.
As I reached the crest, I looked at the path before me. While the last section was the steepest of our recent stretch of the mountain, it was by no means the last steep hill we would encounter. I stood up straight and did a quick stretch as I looked around, taking in the scenery around me. It was unlike any view I had ever seen. As far as the eye could see, within the large, terraced field which was bordered by large foliage, there were coffee trees.
We drive up Twin Peaks. There are a few bold stragglers running toward the top. We drive up Twin Peaks and it is beautiful, you can't see an inch of the city, it is floating in fog. You can see the fog. Dad says we have to come back on a clear day. They built a look-out point up there, but they also stuck a post in the ground on a mound that offered topographical information. I run up the mound, then down, then read.
When we got closer to the top I could see the ocean. We went higher and higher up the mountain.
I considered why such beauty had eluded me for so long. In terms of natural beauty, this was most definitely the epitome of it. A vibrant green immersed the mountain side. “Look at the forest atop the mountain,” I said. White water from streams up above poured from the edge of a steep cliff like boiling water pouring from a kettle. It seemed as if the summer had just exhaled upon this landscape because everything was so healthy and flawless. I specifically remember my father, marveled, saying “The history that this place holds can be seen in the nature of the landscape.” I responded in a similar state of awe, “Utterly
Not used to uneven terrain, I wore myself out relatively early compared to my partners, who were generally in much better shape than me. I grew more and more frustrated and joked less and less during the climb. The ascent to the first peak seemed never-ending; the peak was forever out of reach and there was always more mountain to climb after each ledge overcome. I increased my pace as the trees gave way to stunted trees, which gave way to shrubs. I was near the peak, and it was about time. The wind gradually made itself known after we passed the trees obstructing it. The humid mountain breeze caressed my sweaty face and exhilarated me. One more rope climb and we arrived at the top of the first
