Struggles Help you Strive I loved going to school. But when I started third grade all of that changed. As I came home one afternoon I walk into an awkwardly silent room. My mom sat there on the couch. She patted the couch and told me to sit down. After I sat down she explained to me that my teacher had called and informed her that I would need to be tutored because I just wasn't learning as fast as the other kids in my class. I was devastated. Every Tuesday and Thursday I would stay after school in a dull, plain room with another teacher. On that Tuesday I watched out the window as all my friends were able to go into the perfect weather and start their bus ride home. My tutor ,who was a fourth grade teacher at my school, walked in with joy, excitement and eagerness. Every Tuesday and Thursday she’d help me improve. In just a short …show more content…
This teacher had helped me become more confident in class. When entering fourth grade I was finally caught up with the rest of my classmates.
Starting middle school was a breeze. In 6th grade I was on the Principles list the whole year. As 6th grade was coming to an end my parents sat me and my brother down and proceeded to tell us that we would be moving to Tennessee. That summer we moved to Tennessee, then we started 7th grade that August. I loved it here. Everyone was so nice and excited that there were new people. The only thing I didn't like was that my classmates were so much smarter than me. Moving from Florida to Tennessee was tough educational wise because the learning standards were so different. The reading and writing that we were learning in 7th grade was math we would have learned in 9th grade in Florida. All of these issues took a toll on my grades. Once again I was going to have to start
As my high school years were coming to an end, all anyone could talk about was college. Where they were going, what state they would be a resident in, and what they would major in, what campus they would be visiting that weekend. I, however, thought I had it all under control. I thought that when my Senior year came by it would all fall in to place. That's crazy, right? The shows that I grew up watching did not have to deal with this. That is when expectation went out the window and reality kicked me in the butt. I had five months left to start applying to colleges and looking in to different campuses that offered my dental hygiene program. Lucky for me, my community college had a two year program.
Middle school just seemed like another round at the elementary school. The year that I was dreading came along, seventh grade. Checking out an AR book was required for a grade and we had to test on the books we checked out even if we didn’t enjoy the book. My english teacher was picky, everything had to be just how she wanted it but other than her checking over the students work every five minutes she was good. Science was my favorite class to take and I was so excited to have that class and Rainie, my sister told me she would be a great teacher. Our class had a couple of class clowns in it, but who would have thought the students would end up making our teacher cry? Eighth grade was definitely difficult my science teacher, Mrs Prescott knew what she was doing and boy that made the class then times harder she was willing to do anything to help me out. She was not hesitant to call home to a kids parent in front of the class if the next day there was no homework brought back. Once a month we went on a field trip to E.O Wilson Biophilia and it was always a blast studying different types of animals and learn about the environment. Middle school wasn’t exactly a walk in the park but it was not too far from it.
I find myself reading this short paragraph over and over(above). My topic sentence makes me happy and proud. Going back to school was the best thing I have done. I chose to talk about going back to school to the “future employer” because it shows I am motivated as well as dedicated. This class has brought a lot to my attention. The mannerism that is expected in the “business world” is to speak and write well. It is extremely important to know how to write (type) a meaning full and proper paper whether it is for school or work. I have noticed a great impact in my vocabulary and writing skills. My boss told me on Monday he is impressed with the new docs I typed up for our new clients (with no help from him). I was not excited about this class
The class I am tutoring is a 3rd grade classroom at Palmers Elementary. Mrs Keri Shivle is the teacher of the classroom. I tutor Tuesday from 12:30 to 1:30pm. The times i'm in the classroom the students are always reading or doing an language art activity. The times i have been in the classroom i been working with three students. One is Jakiey and Lavonta and sometimes i work with Angeli. I do different things with them such as helping them with homework or reading to them and then having them read it back to me. We also play games such as vocabulary ones, phonics.
classes to support my own learning and looking for the right resources. Supportive is that my husband can teach me the language without attending a language class and that I can learn and improve by talking to him. I am planning to learn once a week for two hours.
It was a cold and dark Thursday afternoon. The sun was behind the clouds, but my spirits were bright and full of excitement. The room was crowded with third grade students eagerly awaiting their release. I stared at the clock, never moving my eyes from the hands. As the hand made its way to 2:45, I knew it was time to change for the talent show.
I am choosing to use their newsletters that was created for my second grade classroom. This newsletter shows how I worked collaboratively with my cooperating teacher to create a newsletter to send home to my student’s parents. I wanted to introduce myself, and explain what I would be doing in the second grade room. I made a meaningful connection to parents by explaining who I was, and what I was going to be teaching their children. I also worked with other teachers and the principals to put important dates on my newsletter. Although my newsletter did not have any standards, I met the WV teaching standard under standard 5. It was not difficult once I talked it through with my cooperating teacher. My cooperating teacher explain to me that I had
My teacher is invisible now because she drank a purple drink. It was really weird when she was teaching the only thing we could see was her glasses. So when she went somewhere we stared at her glasses to know where she was going. One time i saw her gas coming out it was disgusting. Another thing she would all the time was grade peoples papers. The only thing i could see was her pen and paper.
Imagine viewing a youtube video 50 years from now that documented a day in my classroom. Would that document demonstrate that I was preparing my students for top-notch careers or would the lens capture a laughable waste of educational time? I am confident that I am providing my students with opportunities to engage with technology, problem solve, and team build. What I don’t know for sure is if I am maximizing learning time appropriately for their needs as 21st century learners. My goal is to work with my teaching coach to become aware of gaps in my instruction and lesson execution that fall short of reaching digital natives.
My first semester as tutor lead in Spring of 2016 went well given the obstacles our team was given throughout duration of the semester. The highlights of my success include the completion of two of three required Tutor workshops. One, which was a Tutor Talk, was unable to be completed due an unforeseen closure of the building that it was initially supposed to be held in. I had chosen the time specifically to correspond to potential hurdles that my classes would present. I tried to reschedule it twice and was unable to due to time constraints and scheduling. Additionally, it wasn’t just a matter of scheduling, but the need to reserve a room. I wasn’t sure who served as the intermediary to get a room. Furthermore, the topic was vague, I asked
Now before I start complaining and going on and on about how crappy middle school was, i must say that it really wasn't all that bad. Don't get me wrong though. I would NOT want to relive those 3 years of my life! I mean just the other day I was telling some of my friends that i would happily relive my life again as long as i could skip middle school. Between fake friends, obnoxious peers, and weird rules like how in 6th grade we all had to sit in alphabetical order for a week during lunch because our dean of students didn't like how a couple of 12 year old boys ran to lunch everyday, I'd say that I wasn't the happiest camper.
Over the past week we have studied how to improve the ability to learn. I find this topic very intriguing because it focuses on how the brain functions. The brain is a breathtaking entity that functions in complex ways to let us to experience our daily lives. As a person who sometimes has difficulty learning new content, I thought the tips to improve absorbing information were very helpful.
One year can change everything and you can learn more than you can imagine. I spent my senior year as Mr. Bob Calderone’s apple tutor and there has been a lot of different things that can be taken away with that time. With that, I have learned a lot of useful things that I can apply to everyday life to help other people or even myself. Being in his classroom has shown me how to communicate better with students, or people in general, manage my time to work efficiently, and how to enjoy the little moments of working with my teacher and the students.
My cooperating teacher was observed this week in her resource classroom. I was present for the observation. Her performance was excellent! During the observation, I found it interesting how one student was purposeful to gain the supervisor’s attention while being disruptive.
It was about seven years ago. I was 12 years old and in the winter months of my sixth grade year. To give you a visualization I was outside in a trailer classroom for health. The bell had rung to indicate the end of class. As I gathered my materials and headed out for the door I heard my health teacher, Mrs. Kelly, call out, “Watch your step on the stairs, they are a little icy from the rain that froze over nigh-”. Before Mrs. Kelly could finish her warning there I was on the ground, my pants covered in mud. I had slipped in a small mud pile that was at the bottom of the stairs. My papers flew EVERYWHERE. With the help of my fellow classmates I gathered my papers and managed to get out of the mud. I did the walk of shame back into the health trailer where Mrs. Kelly was standing. “Oh Alicia”, she said, “what are gonna do with you?”. After explaining the slip up she told me to go to the girls locker room to see Mrs. Walmsley, one of the other female gym teacher, and see if she would be kind enough to wash my pants for me.
