As of this morning, Compete shows 48 associates registered for the challenge. Fitness is still doing weigh-in this weekend so we could possibly see a couple more associates jump on before the official Monday start. I’ll update you, and the team, at next huddle if that’s the case. Next year I will start advertising the associate challenge as early as possible as well explore more creative ideas to encourage participation. On the member side, the total this morning was 161 registered so we have a grand total of
I grew up overweight, amidst incessant teasing and judging glances so frequent they felt normal. I knew I was unhealthy. I wanted to improve, and I did try to work out and eat right a lot of times - but to no avail. It never worked. In hindsight, it is clear my failures were because I prioritized health below everything - academics, a social life - you name it. Moving to the US for college, leaving behind a support structure for a foreign culture, I knew I had a fresh start that I could make the most of if I so tried.
It’s not as is if I was lying. I wasn’t even stretching the truth, for the most part. That’s why I didn’t feel bad, even if I did it twice. So, when I contacted the Fitbit company, for the second time, about a faulty product, I didn’t worry. The first time my Fitbit was falling apart, it was all bubbly and the seam had come apart from the screen. The button fell off and I had to tape it on with a decorative green duck tape that made it stick out like a sore thumb. This time the battery didn’t hold a charge for the minimum amount of days, in fact, it was half that amount.
My main goal is to increase my cardiorespiratory fitness so that I can play sports for a long duration without getting tired. I can do this by using the overload principle, the principle of progression, the principle of reversibility, and FITT formula. I will incorporate all of these with interval training. Using the overload principle with the interval training will allow me to build up my cardiorespiratory system in intervals at greater loads. This leads into progression, as I will need to be able to do this gradually, and not all at once. Making sure the progression is done gradually will allow for my body to adapt to each overload. The principle of reversibility will ensure that I am continuing to work, and not failing to exercise. These
To become an athletic trainer, one must complete courses such as Human Anatomy and Physiology as well as other courses that pertain to this major. These classes will help in learning how the body functions. I will also have to pass the Board of Certification exam and must be CAATE certified I could also volunteer at sporting events to get to know the environment around the players, coaches, and spectators from a non-athlete point of view. This could prove helpful because an athletic trainer will constantly be around sporting events and usually close to spectators, coaches, and players alike.
Last weekend, I was at the Tupelo Wellness Center gym on the treadmill when I overheard two men having a conversation about bodybuilding. At first, I thought they were talking about pro wrestling where all the moves are predetermined like the wrestlers are performing in a theatrical way. Then, I later realized that the men were referring to a bodybuilding competition.
Since Ii was a little girl Ii liked to run. My grandma told me that she would always buy me dolls but Ii never played with them. I always wanted to go play outside with my cousins, always active. My sophomore year in high school, a friend told me to join the track team, she told me that if i didn't like it, to quit. On the first day of practice i was exhausted , i told myself Ii would never do this again, but i never stopped going for some reason. I remember walking down the hallways after school and seeing people run back and forth, doing drills that i never imagined myself doing. The way i saw the others perform was inspiring, from people sprinting, to long distance running, to throwing to hurdling. I would always think to myself, “how
My cardiovascular endurance goal that I’d like to attain by the end of this semester is to sustain a fast pace of running for 30 minutes a day 3 times a week in order to improve the intensity of my cardiovascular endurance. My goal for my health habit is to reduce my alcohol intake to 5 drinks a month.
Hello and welcome to my blog! I am a health and fitness freak, so if you?re into that as well or want to try and live a healthy life I hope that my blog will help you with some tips and inspiration. Since this is my first post I am just going to give you an overview of things I find important to keep in mind when society is trying to push you to be a certain shape, some important tips to keep in mind for a happy and healthy life, and lastly a small workout challenge, which is great for beginners.
I am an ICF Certified Life Coach focusing on Walking and Healthy Lifestyle Coaching. For the first few years, I worked as a career coach helping clients looking to make a career change at midlife. Depending on the circumstances, they felt this was either an exciting new adventure, or it presented an uncertain and scary future. It was fulfilling helping them navigate such a significant change.
I love to run. Running in the confines of a track really isn’t true running but the fact that you are racing another person who is putting their soul into a fifty second race to be declared a winner or a loser is exhilarating. For those few seconds every running on the track is linked to a common purpose, and that is to win. For many people there is no other way to feel accomplished than to place first and only first. As if they must win or their hours of dedication and work have gone to waste within the time it takes to complete one short rep of some workout. But I am different.
On mornings as cold as this, there were only a few things I imagine one could think of that might be an appropriate form of activity. A moderate list. Running would probably be somewhere towards the bottom of that list. Yet, there I was, struggling through hundreds of people in dri-fit T-shirts and above-the-knee level, elastic gym shorts. I’d never been a fan of unfamiliar crowds. I could learn to deal with that. As I moved around and did copious amounts of stretching to get my body ready for the task before me, I unknowingly would soon have to learn to deal with something much harder to overcome than unfamiliar crowds.
Lorena and I used to have the same class back in high School which was environmental class. We became good friends so she would always tell me that she didn't liked her body because she was fat. We graduated and we lost communication until I found her on snapchat. We started talking again and one day she told me to go with her to the gym. We attend the same gym the one in Irving mall, Fitness Connection, but we didn't know that until we talked through snapchat. I liked the idea of having a gym buddy and I knew we were going to have fun, but I also wanted to help Lorena with her small issue of wanting to lose weight. I honestly think she looks good but she wanted to lose a little bit of weight so I decided to be with her on this small journey.
It started during sophomore year of high school. It was the first day of school all i could think about was what teachers and students would presume of me. I sauntered to my first class it wasn’t as bad as i interpreted it would be, had many friends/ acquaintances for each class, but there was one particular class that I disliked. Majority of students would say math, science, or English was their worst subject , not for me. Out of all the subjects i despise gym, ironically enough i would start working out at the gym later on. Gym was not my main priority, my teachers knew that. I wouldn't do as instructed , i would frequently find a easier way to finish the workout. At the end of the day i just didnt care , until one day when it came time
It all started on June 2014, I was uncomfortable in my own skin. I was underweight and was always out of breath. I ran like a turtle. At that time, I weighed only 115 pounds. I wanted to make a change for the better, wanting a better lifestyle. So I decided to sign up for the gym. That day changed my life forever. The gym made me fit, healthier, but most importantly it made me a better person which is who I am today.
I walked into a new gym, and I saw a guy hitting a volleyball harder than I had ever seen anyone hit before. In the next moment I saw him walking over to me before my practice started. He said hello to me. I was a 13 year old kid when I first meet KK Paela at club volleyball practice. After knowing KK for a year, he began to help me become a better volleyball player by fixing all of the mistakes that I was making. He told me how to improve my hitting by reaching my elbow up higher, how to become a better passer by keeping my platform out in front of my body, and to hit around the block instead of hitting right into it. Everything that he has taught me since the day that I first met him has made me the person that I
