High Honor Roll Essay

I am proud to announce Houston Methodist has made U.S. News & World Report’s Honor Roll. Our hospital was ranked 19th, scoring high in patient safety, demonstrating commitment to reducing accidents and medical mistakes, which aligns with our I Care Values.

My personal development has been molded by many people and things, yet the four pillars of National Honor Society have exceeded all other influences in their potency. Scholarship, service, leadership, and character— each pillar engenders its own unique form of impact upon me. Furthermore, the foundation of my future goals harmonizes seamlessly with the pillars; I shall strive toward success by applying them throughout my life.

Since the beginning of my high school career I have embodied the four pillars of National Honor Society. The past summer I spent over a hundred hours volunteering at Pocono Medical Center. At PMC I was entrusted to escort patients being discharged by wheelchair or walking,

The four pillars of National Honor Society have been instrumental throughout my entire life, whether I knew it or not. The first pillar, scholarship, or a commitment to learning, is what has made me who I am today. The beginning of my learning career, was molded by my parents. However, they instilled in me a belief that learning was vital and working hard at school was very important. Through this, I viewed my education as a challenge that I wanted to beat. I tried to learn everything I could and be as successful as possible. It was in learning that I found my work ethic, determination, and value of my future and success. When I was younger, I had a difficult time making new friends because I never started conversations and never stood up with what I believed in. I was told to join clubs and be open to make new friends, but I always seen myself fading into the background. I was tired of being known as “the shy girl” so I decided to make a difference in my life. I built up enough confidence and took the initiative to join clubs and open myself to new opportunities. Although it was difficult at first, I found myself getting comfortable and wanting to make a positive change to the community by becoming a leader. This was the most significant experience of my life because I conquered my shyness. This is why the fours pillars that best define my pillars is leadership, service, confidence, and dedication.

Due to my involvement in my school, I have a plethora of opportunities that affect my community. As a member of the National Honor Society, we stay involved in activities that benefit our chapter and Walkerton itself. For instance, we annually undergo a food drive at our school in order to supply food for the people in the community. Then we transport the food to the food pantry and once every month we take turns to distribute the food to the people who need it. This distribution we do for the community aids the people in need as most people receiving the food are unable to transport the food themselves. Alongside the food drives, I spend hours of volunteering for concessions, tutoring students after school, and aiding for the band teacher.

I looked like a deer in the headlights during my 8 grade graduation, especially after they told me that I was no longer in the national honor society that same day. The worst thing was the reason why I was kicked out. I had finished all the requirements; completed more community service hour than I should have, but dropped one of my class grades down by one point .I was blindsided by the thought of hearing it .Nothing made since as, I was in national honor society for a long time and for it to be taken away was something I couldn’t wrap my head around. And there I was walking up the stair to the stage thinking about what I did wrong .Where was that one point in, between which test or essay was it in .As thoughts of failure were rushing through

I am a Spanish major with a track in Secondary Education and a minor in International Studies, and I am an Honors College student. Hence, my course schedule is rather tight and does not have much flexibility. This study abroad program is of great assistance, as I will be able to get credits for my Spanish major and Honors College electives during the summer while exploring a new country. Through this experience, I will be able to enhance my academic interests. I am hoping to immensely improve my Spanish language skills and see education from an international perspective. I may not be the best candidate for the next member of the National Junior Honor Society, but I certainly believe I could be a great addition! Overall, I am a great learner, leader and student. I have not had any major discipline problems since kindergarten! I have always had top grades and have been top of my class at some point or another. I have good grades that I always maintain and standards that I never lower. My character is not the best but it certainly isn’t the worst. I try to help out in my school or community when possible but regrettably I have not given much of my time to my school or community. My time in High School was made difficult from the constant strife and conflict between my parents. This made my home an unstable environment not fitted for learning or growing as an individual. As I got older and closer to graduating High-School, I began to find my own voice with the help of my mentor Rahn Fleming, which occurred at the end of my junior year. As a result, I came in control of my life and the constant feuding started to die down. No longer did I have to worry about the next scheduled court date, or the next time I would come home wondering what may await. I felt like I was always walking on broken glass for the longest of time throughout my life, until I began to voice myself and what I wanted. My parents came to realize this

Growing up, achieving near perfect grades in school quickly became my utmost priority. I excelled in nearly every subject, particularly math, all throughout elementary, middle, and most of high school; however, this year, my senior year, I had experienced what I’ve always considered to be my absolute worst nightmare: receiving a low test grade in a math class.
