The disappointments of life are the most illuminating of all experiences. These occurrences tend to be the main source of change in a person’s character. Instead of letting catastrophe shape me for the worse, I allow my experiences to teach me. In seventh grade, my computer teacher was absent and our substitute teacher played a movie titled “Hackers.” As an impressionable computer geek trying to amaze my friend, I tried to show him a trick on the computer. However, the outcome of what I had typed, “MSG * hey,” was still indiscernible to me. As I hit enter, I proudly looked around and noticed that every computer had a message box that said “hey.” I warned my peers of the possible consequences, but my classmates did not heed my warnings,
For one of the few times in my life, I let myself down. At my interview for Phillips Exeter, the admissions director asked me how I would face disappointment, given that it would surely occur over the next four years. I thought I knew, but as it turns out, I overestimated my abilities to face it head on. During those first two years, disappointment hurt me. By concentrating on that period of time, you would perceive me incorrectly. But please know this: I am stronger than ever, more aware of my ability to overcome something that hit me
Therefore, I assumed that almost everyone has suffered from disappointment at any level. At first glance, I imagined of having a person entering a room and realizing that a butter cookie box was waiting for him on top of a table. Soon after he would walking towards it and his disappointment
In life there will always be those moments that we most value and those that we wish to avoid. Misfortunes are the situations or events that we wish to vanish from our lives because we view them in a negative way. However, what many choose to avoid is actually something that defines who we are. Misfortunes develop one’s character and it identifies us as a person. Everyone goes through different situations and because of that each and every person develops their own unique character based on those misfortunes. The essays “Flavio’s Home” by Gordon Parks, “What I’ve Learned From Men” by Barbara Ehrenreich, and “Common Decency” by Susan Jacoby all explain to us in detail the situation that a particular person is going through which in the end reveals how the person’s character was developed by that misfortune.
Life is a journey filled of many surprises, and while one day you will lose 5 bucks, the other day you will find 10. Whether you broke your leg, you got the flu, or you got a bad grade, I believe that we can always make the best of every situation.
Failure is something that we cannot go through life without experiencing. The best thing about failure is that failure can be used as a great learning experience to improve upon things in our lives and career. Using failure as a learning tool is dependent upon the person and how they view it as well as how they use it. Failure is a matter of perspective and the lessons in failure are important aspects towards growth and development. If we did not experience failure there wouldn’t be opportunities for learning. Failure can teach us about ourselves as well as provide an understanding for our
Today, I eat lunch with friends, I find comfort in my clubs, and sometimes, I fail. When I lived in Florida, I never had to cope with failure, as everything came to me easily. What I know now is that failure is an unavoidable aspect of life, and I know I’ll encounter it wherever I end up. When I moved up the East Coast, I learned how to face failure head on and accept that there are days when I can’t be perfect. But I am now able to learn from my failures and keep them in mind when moving
There will be a multitude of trials and tribulations that a man will have to endure in order to achieve a higher plateau in their life. I had many great experiences in my life, but I have also had many disappointing ones. One of those disappointing moments in my life occurred when I was an 18 year old senior at City Arts in Technology high school.
Every person experiences multiple failures, both big and small, in life. At any given point in life, they can point out what they think was their biggest failure. That doesn’t mean their biggest failure helped them make their biggest change. I’m still young so I’m sure I haven’t experienced my biggest regret or failure yet, but one failure made me look at life differently. Although some would view this event as more of an unfortunate accident than anything else, I still consider it a failure on some level.
At surface level, the unfortunate experiences in life can appear to be obstacles and setbacks. I disagree. Labelling something as an obstacle implies getting over it rather than seeing an opportunity to work through it and learn. Looking beyond the surface level, I've learned everything has a silver lining and everything ultimately manifests for a reason. Some of the worst things that have happened to me ignited the most profound periods of growth in my life. Through it all, I learned to see the beautiful in the ugly.
When people go through something difficult it can change them. Making them who they are, it can change them for the bad or good. Therefore, hardships can greatly influence a person’s life by making them appreciate all the things that make life enjoyable.
The ethical issues surrounding hacking, stem from several sources mainly dealing with order and control, and information ownership. What is difficult to decipher from all the media hoopla surrounding the terms, "hacker" and "hacking" is both the simultaneous sensationalism and the condemnation of said activities. Of course just recently, even a movie was made and was appropriately called Hackers. The term and all that it implies has truly entered our popular consciousness when Hollywood has made a box office movie on it. As the advancement of computer technologies and systems of information become increasingly more and more complex in today's fast paced modern world and said technologies become an integral

The lessons we take from failure can be fundamental to later success. Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?
As the world becomes more and more reliant on computers the computer hacking industry is greatly rising. With people such as Kevin Mitnick, who is known as a "computer terrorist" (Kjochaiche 1), computerized information isn't safe any more. Kevin is known as "the most high-profiled computer criminal and responsible for more havoc in the computer world today."(1) He considered this a fun and easy task. He got caught and thrown into prison, but once he got out nothing changed. Kevin stated that as long as the technology is there it just calls to people to break into it. Computer hackers usually start off young, thinking that it is nothing but a little harmless fun. But as they get older, they realize it has turned into
Another turbulent time that taught me through failure was when I tried to arrange a birthday party for my sister. Everything was supposed to be arranged by me, so I went out a bought the invitation cards, party favors, balloons, decorations, food, and a few gifts. I filled out the invitations early and put them in a box to store them until I was ready to send them. Time flew by fast between daily life with my kids and responsibilities, and before I knew it the day of the party was upon me. Quickly that morning I decorated and cooked and prepared everything. As the hour of the party came and went, no one showed up but the birthday girl, whom I had called personally. Later it occurred to me that I hadn’t sent out the invitations! That was why no one had come. I soon learned from that mistake to be more organized and manage my time better when planning events.
