I’m Fred James and my carpenter shop hasn't been selling as frequently as we used to when business was booming. My businesses peak was way back when the neighborhood was filled to the rim with people before the rush the Oregon trail took them away. Just today I told Claira, my wife of twenty years that we must move west to Oregon before money becomes an issue. Of course Claira wasn't thrilled and neither were my kids. Milly and Matthew are hysterical about not wanting to leave all their friends. Sadly they'll have to make new ones at our new home.
I have been pondering the idea of taking on the trail for a while so I have thought up a great plan. To open up a new shop bigger and better than the Fred's Hardware Store here in Dover, Delaware.

We lived with Claira’s parents for a while until we got back on our feet from our debt. Leaving them will be a difficult task, that I don't know if we are ready for. They have been nice enough to give us the family bible, which my wife cherishes deeply. Also Grandma’s lovely grand piano that she insisted Milly take and pass on to her daughter. Just as her mother gave to her and so on for generations. For the journey we couldn't bring all our clothing, but we did pack two pairs of clothes for each of us. The rest of our clothes were sold to our neighbors for money on our journey. I've read letters from my prior neighbors telling us that if we go be careful not to over pack, while on the other hand remember our necessities to make it the whole journey. Our food of mainly bacon and flour, but also our cooking supplies certainly will be the first things on our prairie schooner. Though our rusty old wagon doesn't look like much it will turn into a decent prairie schooner by the time we leave. It won't be much but it'll be enough for our needs and isn't too big for our two buffalos, Jessie and Bessie. The dark nights on the prairie could be troublesome for our journey so we brought our lanterns and oil. For us to travel throughout the night some nights where the land isn't suitable to set up camp. We need to get to Independence quickly so I can set up my newly improved shop that I need for our family …show more content…
We did bring our family china that we have used since we got them at our wedding which for me would be impossible to leave behind. Our horse, Sea and our oxen should certainly be enough to pull our Prairie Schooner. We are packing lightly from home, because we are banking on buying a lot of supplies in Independence. Matthew and Milly haven't been cheerful about our situation, but they'll need to make it as good as possible. My wife Claira is very heartbroken about leaving her parents. She has been spending as much time as possible with them until we leave. She has never been away from for more than a week, but this may be the last time they'll meet and certainly will be
The only thing he had was his old farm wagon. I also bought a pair of oxen from him to pull the wagon. When I got the wagon back to the house we needed to start packing. The first thing we packed was three pairs of clothing all three of us. I packed my leftover medicine and some whisky, my wife packed her pots and pans, and some tin eatware.
To make preparations for the trip, the two captains had to buy a grand array of things in Philadelphia. His shopping list included scientific instruments such as a chronometer and a sextant, an air rifle, arms and ammunition, medicines, ink and other materials for journal keeping, and a large array of other items, including 193 pounds of portable soup, a corn mill, mosquito netting, blankets, oiled linen for making tents, candles, tools, and reference
Me and my family decided to move to Oregon all the way from New England I decided to keep a journal for the adventure we have to pack before we leave though my 18 year old son Bernard told us to bring his xylophone and I Charles Marvin Ives wanted to bring an anvil in case I need to fix or make anything with metal or use our spare parts we brought even though I have no experience as a blacksmith because I'm a farmer. My wife Samantha Packed the bacon, salt, and whiskey and we all had to lift the water keg. I decided to bring my shovels and hammer and some salt for the bacon. We're bringing pots and other cooking utensils as well. My oldest son, Carl who's 20 years old thought it was a good idea to bring a plow. We will also need some firewood
When I was working at Target there were two mangers that I was to train and help if they needed it. The conflict was that they come in and changed everything in our stations. Which was uncomfortable due to that I had more experience and was working there longer. Nothing work well within the ream after that point.
Next I am getting three blankets so each family can have some. I am getting three cattle because if we need meat we can eat them. I am going to get three chickens and two roosters because we could need extra meat. I will get six buckets of fresh water if our colony needs to drink water. We will need two bags of medkits if anyone is hurt. Our colony will need two spinning wheels for making cloth.
One quiet morning I was sitting on my couch playing games when my I heard my dad jingling his key. So I decided to get up and see what or where he was going.
The Mall of America is known as one of Minnesota’s most famous landmarks. Did you know that about half a billion people have visited it since the day it opened? Today I will be telling talking about MOA which happens to be one of my favorite places.
When I found out my aunt had breast cancer I was devastated because I thought of all of the things we used to do before she died. I remember when I was younger she would take care of me and my brother since my parents would be working or my mom would be at school. When me and my brother was younger she would drag my brother in the wagon and carry me in the wagon since I was smaller then my brother we would go up town and run erands with her we would go to the Piggly Wiggly so she can get groceries, To the drug store so she could get her medicine and the people that worked their would give us some candy everytime we went and we would go to Bonnies when it was open and get a cheese burger. When she would cook she would let me and my brother
We have heard from other family that have journey there and back that it is very difficult but with my faith and compassion we can do it. They have said that the Indians are mean and not very nice that we are coming though their land. My husband is in very good shape for being 38 years old. My expectations are that there will be a lot of dead people along the trail that people just threw them to the side and kept going. I feel like everyone in our wagon in going to be hungry and thirsty. At the end of the journey we are hoping to build a house that is very lovely and have lots of animals and amazing farm land. We will forget about our life back in Delaware and move on from there. We are traveling in our prairie Schooner that we builded from the wood in our forest and I knitted the blanket to go over the top. Pulling the wagon we have 2 ox that we got from my parents and 1 horse we got from our neighbors we they left. We are bring 2 outfits per person so 8 outfits in total. I'm bringing a family portrait with my mom and dad also in it so I don't fully forget about them. We need to bring kitchen and eating utensils. If our wagon breaks we need to have a wagon repair
I learned about Elms after I got a recruiting letter from Coach Matt Dyer saying he was interested in my running abilities. So I went home that night and looked up Elms; where it was located, the majors they offered and what life was like on campus. I was very satisfied with all the answers that I got, not only did the college have a beautiful location about an hour and a half away from my home town, it also had their own fireplace to sit around. Their students were very involved in the local communities and got placed in well fitting internships that led to future careers. I contacted Coach Matt, letting him know I was interested and that I wanted to learn more about campus life at Elms. So Matt suggested I come down for an upcoming open house,
One item I would bring to 1815 would be the Preparewise Famiy Survival Necessities Pack. This Disaster kit includes important items like water, food, a knife, a first-aid kit, and much more. I would bring this kit back with me because there are so many essentials and this kit would allow me the proper tools for survival. Having a survival kit helps me face any situation that is thrown at me. Another reason I would take this is because there are so many items in just one bag. Those are the reasons I would bring the Preparewise Family Survival Necessities Pack to 1815.
We have first drawn out a route that we are going to take to get to Independence. We first are going to take the Erie Canal all the way from Binghamton, New York to Columbus, Ohio, then from there we plan on taking the national road all the way into Independence. The second thing on the agenda was to plan on what to bring along with us things that we will need for Oregon and the long road to Oregon. Some of the household items that we plan on bringing is a treasure trunk to store some of the items, like candlesticks, butter mold, set of dishes, matches, eating and cooking utensils, and the family Bible. Some other items that we are bringing along is a wooden bucket, butter churn, coffee grinder, pitcher and bowl, chest of clothing, 1 gallon of coal oil, needle in thread, cookstove, frying pan, washboard, pots and a kettle. And we can’t go on this trip without a fishing pole and a rifle. Another important thing that we had to make sure that we brought was food, we brought 50 lb. of flour and, 25 lb. of bacon, vegetables, dried beef, and 25 lb. of salt. Then, 15 lb. of pork, 20 lb. of sugar, eggs, crackers, ham, oatmeal, and cheese. We will have to take along wagon parts. We have heard that many wagons break down or need repairs and the people were not prepared for those accidents to happen. Some of the parts that we will be bringing along are wagon wheels, we will bring four along because they tend to need many repairs. Along with an extra younger, and an extra axle. I cannot imagine a trip all the way to Oregon without anyone's getting sick. In our first aid box we are bringing along lots of medicine because we want to be prepared for everything that comes our way. Our daughter Polly has lots of allergies so of course we have to bring bee pollen to prevent anything bad happening, horehound for sore throats, wild horse lettuce for headaches, willow bark for
money, only one bed, and a couple suitcases full of clothes were all I was allowed to take. I had
After putting the phone back in I felt that whole world spinning. Steadying myself, I took a quick moment to rest. “What should I do now?” I thought to myself, the fuzz’ll be here any moment and Dally had been abolishing a store item last time I saw him. Thinking back to what Johnny said earlier, I decided to go back to the store where I had seen Dally. Walking towards the store, I gradually started to gain speed as I noticed the alarm had started to ring in the direction of the store, despite the injuries from the rumble and my aching body. Running like the wind, Dally had exited the door and was on his way towards what seemed like another phone booth on the side of the street. Funny how I had never seen that there. I ran in the same direction, hoping the gang would get here soon, I reached the booth and stood in the way, between the phone and Dally. Surprised , he stared at my figure for a second, like he was taking in that I was actually standing right there, blocking him. “Get out of my way, Pony.” He said firmly, a couple dollar bills escaping from his back pocket.
Although everybody has different needs, individuals and families often find there are certain personal items they almost everybody requires for comfort. For example, if you pack your favorite pillows, sheets and blankets, you will probably get a better night's sleep. If you haven't set up a bed, you should pack a air mattress too. You and your family will probably also need one or two complete change of clothes, including pajamas for sleepwear and fresh underwear, pants, shirt, and socks for day wear. To save yourself a trip to the convenience store, toiletries should include toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, a hairbrush, soap, towels, a hair dryer and
