After growing up in Memphis, Tennessee, I did not know much about the rest of the country. My family would venture into North Carolina or Florida for various summer vacations, however, I often felt stuck in the “Memphis bubble.” I attended my first year of college at Rhodes College, which was located near my house. That year forced me to realize that I have a desire to experience different cultures and perspectives, and as a result, I decided to transfer to TCU. Fort Worth has provided a drastically different culture that I appreciate, but I still want to experience life in California, Colorado, the Pacific Northwest, the Northeast, and abroad after I graduate college. It is a goal of mine to spend time in every part of the country and visit …show more content…
The state is also home to one of the nation’s best parks, Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Here, visitors can camp, mountain bike, run, hike, rock climb, and partake in nearly any outdoor activity. An entrance to the park can be accessed 35 miles away from Knoxville, and this would be an easy trek to make with friends from the University of Tennessee. Throughout high school, friends and I would take trips through the south, Utah, or Arizona to experience the great outdoors, and visiting Great Smoky Mountain National Park would be a great opportunity to continue the tradition of backpacking in the summer. Backpacking is also economical, because it is easy to stock up on cheap food and camp out at night. After enjoying the trails and scenery of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, I plan on making the 100-mile drive to Ocoee, TN, which hosted some events during the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. The Ocoee River is home to some of the best kayaking and rafting in the country, and it would be an incredible experience rafting the same waters as Olympic athletes. While I plan on leaving Great Smoky Mountains National Park early in the morning, I can finish rafting by the early afternoon, and then, I can make the 90-mile drive to Monteagle, …show more content…
It is easy to desire a change of scenery when living in the same setting for a long period of time, but great opportunities can arise closer than I previously imagined. Tennessee offers a wide range of opportunities in music, the outdoors, sports, and many more, and the more time I spend throughout the state, I will be able to meet and network with a wide array of individuals who provide a unique perspective on life. My travels throughout my home state will also allow me to catch up with friends from high school who have moved on to various colleges and jobs. While it is a dream of mine to set foot in as many places around the world as I can, it is wise to not rush past hometowns or home states, as they greatly impact the direction of each person’s life. This is also a vacation I can take without spending any money on housing and only spending about $240 for a week of travel (as listed in my itinerary/budget below). Nearly every state in the United States has a wide variety of activities to do and places to explore, and it is crucial to appreciate the opportunities that are in close
There are many beautiful places around the world to live, choosing one is a very difficult decision. There is also a lot of different countries but the United States is where I will stay, even in America, though, there is such a variety of places to live. Savannah, Georgia has caught my eye in many ways but I don’t know if I could ever leave small town Iowa, like Mason City. While considering these two places, I know that there are a few things that I have to keep in mind such as the job outlook, cost of living, things to do, and one of the most important, weather.
Every year people like to take a little vacation to get away from everything. They like to go to the nearest beach, go to a state on the other side of the country, or go visit a completely different country on the other side of the world. They like to look a nature’s beauty from a different viewpoint or taste a different cuisine that they never had before. In my opinion, my favorite place to go on vacation is the mountains. Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg to be exact.
Our yearly pilgrimage to our deer lease in Menard, Texas starts every year on the first Friday in November. To get there we head four hours north thru the sprawling metropolis of San Antonio, full of its traffic and impatient drivers. Upon leaving the city limits of San Antonio, we head west towards Kerrville and the landscape starts to change drastically. No longer are we driving on flat land but now the car is climbing small hills and the road winds. We drive in this direction until we reach the vast acres of ranch land located on a lonely farm road between the small cities of Junction and Menard. If you drive too fast down the winding road, you will miss the old metal gate that is almost hidden by brush trees. My husband is the hunter, yet I love to come with him, because this is the place, where I disconnect from the fast paced life of city dwelling and feel reconnected once again to nature and I find peace and rest here in this cactus and dirt oasis.
So it goes kinda like this: The day before I left for Pensacola, I was told "Have an open mind, you don't know who you are going to meet down there", so I went in like I would any other social situation, and just try to keep to myself until I have felt out and become comfortable with the situation. The original plan was to not get close to anyone, especially since it was gonna be a week long thing then we would be done, and we'd all go home and eventually forget about each other, but things went differently. They started off the way I planned, then I got to know you, and I made the mistake of getting attached because quite frankly, you had topped out everyone I'd previously met and I tried to hold out hope that maybe something could work in
San Luis, Colorado is the oldest town in Colorado. The Rio Culebra winds through the valley, surrounded by majestic mountains. It is one of the most beautiful scenes I have ever seen. My family along with many others have been here for generations. The beauty of the land is only accentuated by the beauty of our tight-knit families and culture. To counteract of all the physical and cultural beauty, there is social and economic strife everywhere around me. I live in the poorest county in Colorado and being impoverished is a challenge my community faces because of a lack of education and job deficit. As I have delved into community and family history, I have better understanding that the fact the that while many things like our support and love for family and culture have remain unchanged and untainted, so has the fact that our community struggles
My mind will often wander to all the places I've lived in and all those I would love to travel to, or visit again. I think of the streets of Santa Fe, how fresh it would be compared to the over 100 degree temperature of were I am now, the hot dry heat of El Paso, Texas, a place I often come back to, the soil were my roots are permanently ingrained. El Paso has grown significantly in the past 10 years alone and is now the sixth most populous city in Texas (World Population Reviw). It's far from it's days when it was widely known as “El Chuco,” or “ChucoTown,” nicknames whose origins and meaning have long been debated, but no matter how much of the new generation is unfamiliar with these terms the history lives on through the streets and current
The birds, squirrels, and fishes living in tranquility. The daylight there is an early riser, while the night feels like a mother rocking her baby; peaceful. Therefore, the nights are so still that only the beautiful harmony of the crickets could be heard. The green tree looks so alive, they were standing large and stiff. There was even the opportunity of exploring the mountain trails. It was amazing being able to experience something completely different, especially when it was just a few days from starting my junior year. The memories from that trip will be unforgettable.
Down in Dallas county there is a place called Balch Springs. Most things you might hear about Balch springs wouldn’t raise a brow on a sober man’s face. Crime rate is a little higher than average and the people working class. Some men and women down in Balch Springs are honest folk, others are as dishonest beyond sin. There’s nothing of interest to say about my origins. Never was no pedigree. No prodigy either. My mother was an easy woman with a taste for powders, and I don’t mean makeup. My old man was a drunkard that walked out on my ma the moment he caught wind she was pregnant. I was raised in a run-down little street, with run down people. Most who worked their fingers down to stubs and died in debt.
Nolanville ,Texas was where it all began. I was about fifteen or so my sisters and I were walking to the buss stop . The big brother Iam trying to make sure my sisters are safe. I told my sister to get off to the side of the road . It was early in the morning around six to seven am. The typical time for school to start around . I have a really big family to be exact I have five sisters and myself which is the only boy being the second oldest the buss stop was about about a mile or so not very far from my house on the corner of the street a black car sped through the street as I was on the right hand my sister sarah the middle child started to cross the road as I saw the saw went to go yell the car hits her projecting into the air the car was
To answer your questions, as of lately my entire week including the weekends are usually divided between school, working out, spending time with either family or friends, and back to school again. Nonetheless, I just moved to Dallas as of March 2016 to be closer to family while finishing school. In regards to my experience, I must say that living in Dallas has been a pleasant experience because I regained a lot of the amenities in regards to our religion that were hard to come by in Colorado. As far as the territories I've resided in previously, I know nothing more than the southwest region of our country between California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Texas to name a few.
Longview, Texas is a unique hometown for many reasons. First of all because, more than likely, any given person who attends Texas A&M and did not play football in high school has never heard of it. When meeting new people in college, I’m always asked where I’m from and 90% of the time the response I hear is “Oh I’ve never heard of that”, 9.5% of the time I hear “Is that kinda by Houston?” (a question that, after hearing for several semesters, I’ll just respond yes), and finally .5% of people I meet know where Longview actually is. Living in a small town—not in the suburbs to any city—offered a unique perspective on life going into college. There are 4 high schools in town. The largest, Longview High, was an athletic and academic powerhouse: always going to state
I grew up in two very different communities, El Paso, Texas and Olney, Maryland. I spent the first ten years of my life in El Paso, which being home to a military base, was a community with strong military support. For the past seven years, I have lived in Olney, Maryland, a small town with families that have known each other for generations. No one really moves to Olney, most families have deeply established roots here, so when I moved to Olney when I was 10, I was very much an outsider. El Paso was fairly limited to El Paso as far as short trips, but in Olney you can be to D.C or Virginia in about an hour; there is always something new to do. Although Olney and El Paso are quite different, they have both instilled a common value in me, take
Before my big move to Houston about three years ago for college, it was my last summer back home in a little city called Amarillo, which is considered “West Texas,” although it’s actually located geographically north within the heart of the Texas Panhandle. I was enjoying every last bits of the time that I’ve had left with my friends and family. The last thing I could think of worrying about during that summer was a romantic relationship. My intentions were to make bittersweet memories and to have what they would call, fun. I went out almost every single weekend for the first month of my last summer and met tons of friends and I became closer to old casual friends. Within that first month of consistently going out and hanging out with all these friends that I became close to, I met a very sweet, charming, and interesting guy named Andy. Something about him caught my attention. He was silly and funny without even trying, so I took an interest in him. We started messaging each other on Facebook then texting and making polite conversations. Before I knew it, this was the starting point to a whole new friendship. When he first messaged me, as much as I hesitated to respond to him because I knew I was moving and I did not want to develop feelings just leave everything behind, I wanted to not just respond but to strike more conversations. I became curious about him and I wanted to find out more and more.
The smoky mountains, one of the main attractions of Tennessee, its enormous but one cannot fail to notice the wonders of nature within it. One you walk the peaceful trails it offer you cannot fail to admire the wonderful experience. The air is filled with happiness and laughter, where one is walking
I had experienced to travel Southern States of America when I was getting my master degree. During that time, my friends and I went to Florida and New Orleans to visit famous places there.
