I could hear the sound of their shoes crunching the fallen leaves before they even made it to the door. I listen, first, for the click of the opening door, then for the footsteps to echo throughout the infirmary. I wait until the door is shut firmly behind them before risking a glance in their direction from behind my computer. The sight of the two men walking my way had me shaking my head in slight amusement.
What has Joseph done, now?
I meet the eyes of a slightly guilty looking Joseph and then glance at Nate, the omega at his side. I let out a dramatically exasperated sigh as I stand up from my computer and make my way towards the sweaty men.

The Meeting was held four times a year, at different pack lands each time. This quarter, The Meeting is to be held on our pack lands, and I have absolutely no intention of going. Being filed into a large room full of other unmated wolves to hopefully find my mate didn’t even begin to appeal to me.
No way.
“Thank you, but I’m okay, really. Are you going?”
“Yeah. All the unmated wolves are going. Look, Mel. I know he put a damper on the whole ‘mate’ thing, but-“
“Listen, Nate, I really do appreciate it, but I don’t really want to talk about it, okay? I don’t need I mate. I don’t want a mate.” I tried my best to stress the words ‘need’ and ‘want’. Why won’t everyone just leave the subject alone?
Nate sighed. He knew this conversation was a lost cause since we had it quarterly. The monotonous mate conversation has long gotten old, but I couldn’t possibly be agitated at him since he truly means well. Nate has been looking out for me since I came here, and I shouldn’t expect that to stop just because we’ve grown up.
Although, I must admit that It is both a blessing and a curse to have someone that knows your story. Nate is a good friend, but he and his sister both truly buy into that ‘Mate’
